He was originally a draenei just like Archimonde and Kil'jaeden were. The latter were given power and corrupted by Sargeras in a controlled manner, while Akama and the other Broken (as the race is now called) were more or less corrupted due to Outlands destruction.

Akama was great. His whole race was pretty interesting. Even though you didn't get to learn too much about it in WC3. I kind of wished when playing custom games in WC3 you could play the Naga or the Draeni (I think that's what they wer called).
Hey, perhaps you should give WoW a shot then? Plenty of backstory for the Draenei there, considering that they're a playable race and all
As for playing as naga or Draenei, that's not too hard, at least not for the former. The Naga count as a separate race in the Editor. All you have to do is put a Mur'gul Slave on the map, and it's owner will be able to build all naga buildings, units and upgrades (except perhaps for the naga Royal Guard, that may have to be added in the Object Editor).
The Draenei could of course be assembled by a map-maker, but they don't have any builders, upgrades, or clear distincion of units. So that requires a bit more work.

cool thanks for the info there. i used to be really into wc II and III. now i know a bit more about the lore.
There is a solution you know, and it's called World of Warcraft
Seriously though, that's where all the new information comes from. If you need info on anything Warcraft-related, check out www.wowwiki.com It has tons of lore in there.

not really! Akama fights at your side (even though he does no damage - but at least doesnt require healing) against Illidan. There was a video of it somewhere, i just cant remember where.
Ah, my mistake. It says Shade of Akama on bosskillers.com, so I take it that means it isn't Akama himself you fight.

yeh gul'dan thats wat i meant =D he was a death knight from memory.
oh, i really liked zul'jin. ive name characters on other games after him and evrything. and yeh i loved the trolls. i wonder if hes in wc3 or wow?

a village is named after his son, think (Sen'Jin Village). Theres also the leader of the Darkspear Trolls that i think is called Vol'Jin but i havent played Horde in a while and i havent raided Orgrimmar either, so i cant really remember
The Zandalar trolls mention Zul'jin i think at some point after you're exalted with him but i cant remember too well either.
Zul'jin was the reason that the Trolls joined with the Horde during the Second War, but after the orcs lost he "mysteriously" disappeared.
However, when the new raid dungeon Zul'Aman comes, Zul'jin may appear again, since he is a Forest Troll

I liked Arthas cause he killed Illidan. But then I found out Illidan didn't really die and I thought that was lame and then I disliked them both after that.
HE WAS NOT PREPARED!!!
Sorry about that, I just had to write that once
The catchline from the TBC promo video has been thrown back at Blizzard ever since Illidan said it the first time, and I imagine a lot of people want to kick his ass just for that sentence.

well i only ever played wc2 and 3 and that was years ago. the 2 charaters i remember teh most were zul'jin and zul'dan. i dont know why. they are probably minor characters, but i remember zul'jin was an axed thrower and he had a green beard :D:cool:
Zul'jin was kind of a minor character, having only played a role in WCII. He was the leader of the trolls, but besides that not very much (that I can think of, I might be forgetting something).
Gul'dan on the other hand (whom I'm sre you're referring to) was and still is a majro character. He was selected to be Kil'jaedens apprentice after Ner'zhul proved to be too difficult to control and manipulate. Gul'dan however wa extremely power hungry, and so made the orcs forsake their old shaman cultures and instead train as warlocks.
However, his thirst for power was what ultimately undid him, because just as Orgrim Doomhammer was to strike a fatal blow against the humans, Gul'dan fled with half of his forces (three clans iirc) into the Maelstrom in seach for the Tomb of Sargeras, where he hoped to acquire enough power to rival Kil'jaeden.
As a result, the orcs lost the Second War, and Gul'dan and all of his orcs were slain by the monsters they awakened.

But since I'm not as familiar with Warcraft lore as I'd like to be, I'm sure someone will clarify all of this for me.
With pleasure
A lot of this stems from the fact that Warcraft Lore wasn't really finalized until WC III (and there are stil changes being made). For example, Sargeras was orginally just a minor character in the plot, acting only as Gul'dan's teacher. However, his role expanded greatly later on, and has now evolved into that of the main antagonist.
Most powerful of all are the Titans and thus also Sargeras. Nothing seems to stand above them (except perhaps some omnipresent and omnipotent being similar to God).
Archimonde and Kil'jaeden are currently the most powerful being threatening Azeroth, and while it is true that "mere" wisps killed Archimonde, the fact of it is that it wasn't just them that did it, the Night Elves had to sacrifice their immortality in order to do so.
And so far, the only character to have returned after death, materialized and not as a ghost, would be Medivh. Everything else stays dead. Excluding undead obviously
Oh, and if players ever do get to fight Sargeras, which is highly unlikely, it will never be part of the main storyline. Sargeras single-handedly destroyed entire species of demons for countless millenia, enslaved the Nathrezim and created the Eredar, amongst them Archimonde and Kil'jaeden. Given how hard Archimonde was to defeat, don't count on even scratching Sargeras.

which Titan died? Sargeras' spirit passed inside Aegwyn after his body "died" and after Medivh was slain nothing's known. Its certain he wasnt completely "dead" and we still have no clue about where he is. The Dragon Aspects are bound with all life on Azeroth and they all survived. Alexstraza, Nozdormu, Ysera, Neltharion (Deathwing) and one more i think whos name i totally forget. Its not like they "cant" die, its just they shouldnt if life is to remain on Azeroth
and about the Titans they didnt create life on the worlds they visited, they only reformed them in a state of order.
I was referring to Sargeras, as I've alwasy advocated that he didn't die. I also never said that they created life, only that they shaped it.

I think Grom Hellscream at least represents the Orc race really well. And the Orcs represent Warcraft to a large extent anyway. I like the aspects of honor among the Orcs. They kind of remind me of Klingons actually.
But he's an interesting character. Once corrupted by demons, then saved by Thrall, then corrupted again by demons, then freeing himself and ultimately his people of the demons by sacrificing himself against Mannoroth.
He did have a peculiar, life, and it's not often that someone becomes corrupt twice and both times frees himself. Plus he's a pretty cool character on top of that.
Quote from "FingolfinGR" »
hes not dead! he's a Dragon Aspect and his life is bound to the life of Azeroth! It would be same as talking about Alexstraza being dead (a big no). His Black Brood of Blackwing still troubles the world but the fate of him isnt known. Whats certain is that hes not dead and he definitely shouldnt be killed. That could help provide endless "spawns of Deathwing" like Onyxia, Nefarian and god knows what else to come.
If the Titans can die, then the Aspects can surely die as well. Question is how hard it is and if being trapped in Outland while it collapsed was enough.
about Illidan i dont think anyone doesnt like him after playing Warcraft 3 and the Frozen Throne. He wants power in the world, not to rule it and follows his own cause all the time (betrayed both Elves and Legion many times just to gain power). His lines in WC 3 were also awesome.
I know at least one person that doesn't like Illidan

People have a great hate for people who done something terrible because of their own foolishness. And I don't understand where that hate comes from. Fools are not responsible for their actions.
While they still have to be held responsible, it would be true that they cannot control their actions as well as other. I take it you are referring to Arthas with this comment, correct?

i'd rather take Medivh, Illidan Stormrage and Neltharion (Deathwing). Pretty much the most powerfull beings on the Warcraft lore (not counting the silly human paladin Arthas that fucked everything up and became a deathknight at first, and then merged with the Lich King himself afterwards).
Right, but I have a feeling that if you ask most people who know about Wacraft who Medivh is, you'll get a big question mark in return. In terms of how important he's been for the world, he definately ranks up in the top, but when it comes to how known he is, I doubt it.
Same goes for Deathwing, and even though he's dead (supposedly) his spawn manages to cause some serious havoc even today.

Medeivh, Kil'jaeden they appear in WC lore many times, half of the lore seems based around them.
but snce it seems almost like most WC series fans came in around WCIII and/or WOW. i might say
Illidan, Arthas, or Thrall. the newer games seem to revovle around them. sep. Illidan and Arthas.
Kil'jaeden suffers from the same situation as Medivh. Since he hasn't appeared in the games at all except for in a game cinematic with Illidan in The Frozen Throne, most people wouldn't know who he is if you asked them.

No, this is not a post where I want you to post who your favourite is, because then veryone posts their one post and all we get a collection of meaningless posts no one will bother to read.
Perhaps famous is the wrong word, but what I'm looking for is what character represents Warcraft, inlcuding WoW, the most?
Personally I'd go with either one of three characters; Arthas, Thrall or Illidan.
True, neither of them appeared before WCIII, but since then they have been two of the most known characters. Thrall has had a book written about him, was the focus of the Orc campaign, and has an isntance in WoW that reenacts his escape from the determent camps.
Arthas on the other hand was the main antagonist in WCIII, destroying the elven kingdom, summoning Archimonde (yes Kel'Thuzad did the actual ritual, but Arthas was a major part of it). Then he became the focus of the expasnion, after which he ended up as the most powerful being in Azeroth, and even Kil'jaeden seems to be afraid of him.
Illidan was also a major plot driver in both Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne, and has now become the center of attention for the Burning Crusade. He's had a huge impact in shaping the course of events all from the inital and first invasion of the Burning Legion, preventing the second invasion, awakening the Naga, attempting to destroy the Lich King and recently in pretty much taking over Outland.
But personally, when I hear Warcraft, I think of Thrall, so my vote falls on him.
