Yes, I know that they lobby for a specific cause. Some of these causes are worthy causes though, and they still have to persuade the congressman to vote in their favor anyway. I'm a political science major too by the way.
I'm not sure about how much influence lobbyists have. Sure, they give money to campaigns in hopes of getting legislation passed in their favor, but ive met a few assemblymen who have voted against legislation that would favor their supporting lobbyists. The bottom line is, every campaign should be publically financed. The whole process of getting money for campaigning is so cumbersome and tedious that it becomes distracting. The people involved in government I know have told me about how there are a ton of fine line provisions regarding who can you get money from, how much they can give, and they would have to call up these people and they would have no idea who the candidates were. SO, you have to have some kind of public financing to stop any kind of lobbying or interest group influence, or more importantly, to stop the worrying that these groups are indirectly passing legislation. Plus, candidates would have so much more time to campaign, and it would weed out all of the candidates who have a shit load of money and can privately run their campaigns themselves.
Alternatives without help from the federal government is going to be pretty tough. You have to keep these companies afloat as much as you have to stop the bleeding of a car accident victim. Simply put, the government, or the United States, cannot allow these companies to fail
Ron Paul was the only republican who made sense, and every time he did, all of the other asshole candidates like guiliana would snicker. Yeah, real nice campaign Guiliani you jackass. Every republican wa so obnoxious and immature. The way they treated Ron Paul made me sick. This is a doctor, a congressman, a man of high prestige. And you guys are going to laugh at him? Christ, show some respect, hes making more sense that any of you other assholes anyway. I was so turned off by the republican party this year it was ridiculous.
Congress won't screw up anything since the the democrats have the majority. Ron Paul is a smart guy, just not a good politician. I liked him the most out of the republican candidates.
Well I do agree with you. Dont judge a book by its cover, but it happens in politics. People vote for whomever they relate to more. If you blame African Americans of voting for Barack Obama because he is African America, then you have to blame the White blue color voter who votes for Mccain...gotta be fair
Judge a man not based on his color but by his actions.
That's basically what I meant.
Whether Obama is African American or not is irrelevant to the fact that he is still our President.
And we should look up to him as so.
The one leading our country. Color shouldn't have a damn thing to do with it.
He isn't out to only help African Americans; he is out for a much greater cause.
We are in an Economic Crisis and his main concern is helping us get out of this Economic Depression.
How have I've been missing this conversation for the last few days? Reading some of the stuff you guys write makes me want to laugh while throwing up all over a brand new pair of shoes.
First of all, I love how people say "im not being a racist but..." Let me stop you right there. If you are saying anything that needs the phrase "im not a racist but..." you are a racist on some level. Let me just say that some of these things just happen in elections. The bottom line is people do not follow elections as closely as other people do, and they choose their candidate based on their personality or how well they relate to them. Thats just the way things go. Need I remind you that there are white supremicists that are only going to vote for mccain just because obama is black? How about we read some books or step out of the town for some culture eh?
In order to get the economy to start up you have to get people to buy things. In order to get people to buy things you have to make them feel comfortable about their financial status. In order to get them to feel comofrtable about their financial status you have to get the unemployment rate down. Getting the unemployment rate down is essential for this economy. Its a cyclic process. For example, when someone feels good about financially, they will go out and buy a car-- when they buy that car, they will help out the auto industry, etc.
Now the economic stimulus package is mostly made for the renewal of jobs. There is a large portion of that bill meant specifically for infrastructure. Heres how this is supposed to work. Many of our bridges are already in very bad shape. Engineers are giving bridges 'D' grades. So you need people to upgrade the bridges. And thats where new jobs come in. You government puts money into redoing bridges or roads and it creates work for other people. When people work, the have money. When they have money, they buy things. For example, there is a bridge in Pennsvylvania that is being upgraded because of the stimulus package. They need to hire 3,000 construction workers for the jobs. 3,000 more people buying things. That is pretty much the governments reasoning for the stimulus package.
Some supreme court decision in 1950 says that enemy combatants dont have to be tried during wartime. And since we were in a "war on terror" they didnt have to be tried. Bogus if you ask me, also they are considered detainees and not prisoners of war, so technically, we can do whatever we want to them.
Encouraging the economic stimulus package, the senate is not voting on their version of the bill, which is around 900 billion dollars. The house voted on their version of the bill and passed at around 800 billion dollars I think, now once the bill passes in the senate (which it will) there will have to be one finalized bill that everyone agrees on in order to get passed. The bill is focused a lot of infrastructure which is what we need now with most of our bridges and roads getting grades of Ds.
He is refocusing on Afghanistan where the brunt of the terrorist organizations are, and setting up a timetable for iraq.
He is closing Guantanamo bay, which he is getting international praise for.
You cant look to your president for every problem. He can only do so much. If you have a real problem. Write an e-mail to your local respresentative or state senator.

You sounded more sarcastic in your first argument
