PVP was a major feature in D2. No clue what your talking about.
If it wasn't for pvp i bet the 'majority' of players would have stopped playing due to boredom within 3-4 months of playing.
The hostile button was a magical button. From, duels to pking.
I mean really, i bet more than half the player base pvpd in some way, shape or form. Im not really debating this, im just stating the obvious.
Yeah... you're just stating the obvious. The obvious fact, that you have a very self-centered view. If PvP was a major feature, why has Blizzard focused on PvM features with almost every D2 patch? Why is there still no PvP at all in D3? Think about it.
And about your "guess" that more than half the players played D2 just because of PvP - sorry, but just go to any D2 forum, and look at the threads. The PvP sections are always smaller - and this is even though every thread which is remotely related to PvP is moved to that forum. If your claim was true, these forums would be flooded with content. I guess we'll never get an official figure, but your claim has absolutely no evidence.
Diablo was always less about skill; it's about killing millions of monsters and collecting loot. And it was designed such that it can be played by anyone who knows how to use a mouse.
...Cool story. How much PVP did you do in diablo 2? Probably none by that comment.
Yep, none. If you had actually read other comments, including the original first post of this thread, you would have known this.
And I personally don't need to "own" someone to have fun. If me and my mates "own" uber bosses by kicking their asses, we have fun enough.
You sound like a noob...lol. GoooOood For YouuUUuu!
I used to Necro vs Necro against great players in private games all night long just for the love of great duels. There was nothing but respect for each other and we learned alot.
Please,,, Shut up. PvM is that way------------------>
Nothing worse then some guy with no love for pvp trying to make some pointles spoint about why pvp shouldn't exist.
Nothing worse then some guy with no love for the original idea of this game trying to make some pointless point about why this game should be turned into the same shit like every other game out there.
If you like PvP, it's your opinion, but please refrain from insulting me just because I don't share your view about seeing each other player as noob if they're not as awesome as me.
all you said is cool bro, but dont u want to own some noobs after 500 or more pve gameplay and just have 1 more awesome way of having fun in this game?
There are no "noobs", there are just people who invested less time/money. If you put a considerable amount of time or money in a D3 character, you take the default cookie cutter build from a forum of your choice, smash buttons 1-4 and mouse buttons at random and you're just as good as anyone.
And I personally don't need to "own" someone to have fun. If me and my mates "own" uber bosses by kicking their asses, we have fun enough.
if u ask me (5-year experience as MobA player), Diablo has potential to be an eSport - for viewer's perspective these fast paced 'teamfights' will be pretty interesting to watch and RTS camera allows putting on good commentary
its like MobA game with farming factor outside of the show
Every game has "potential" for esports. Heck, there's even a tetris esports community. Does it mean that every game needs to be turned into esports? Hell, no. Why not? Simply because by focusing on esports, the game mechanics need to be changed towards "skill". Diablo was always less about skill; it's about killing millions of monsters and collecting loot. And it was designed such that it can be played by anyone who knows how to use a mouse.
1. If you're a player since the start, then why did you forget about Diablo 2 PvP?
2. Blizzard NEVER put PvP infront of PvE, their main focus was always PvE
Also as far as I know they got different teams for different aspects...
1. Of course I remember, see my "rip somone's ear off" comment. However, dueling in D2 was only a minor thing - some might disagree and say "no I was really badass and the community was big" blablabla. All communities I came across while playing D2 were about trading, fighting uber tristram, getting high level runes and stuff like that. Neither Blizzard nor the majority of the players actually focused on pvp in D2.
2. I know, see D2, and it's good that they keep it that way for D3 (at least I feel that's good). :-)
1) you really need to get everything right and you have to have the depth of strategy, you have to look at making sure that the strategies that are successful are balanced, and fun, and entertaining to watch, and all those things.
2) There are a lot of other elements of Diablo that are a lot more important.
3) See the title, Diablo 3 is not and will never be about esports, and thus pvp just hasn't a top priority (and while some hate Blizzard for that, I love Blizzard for that).
Okay, I really can't believe that I'm the only one who's sick of PvP/Esports. Come on, 99% of computer games nowadays are about comparing/competing. Even Farmville works like that. I am so glad Blizzard stands up and creates at least one game where it's not about competition, but everyone can play as an individual. Am I really the only one who feels that way?
We don't have plans to make Diablo 3 an esport. Diablo 3 was never really designed to be an esport, and not every game necessarily needs to be an esport. SC2, on the other hand, was designed from the beginning with esports in mind. Actually, WoW wasn't, but I think there are elements from WoW that we felt worked well in terms of esports environment, and actually we're getting a great response from the Chinese community at this event. I think that there are different ways, there are certainly competitive things that we'll be able to do with Diablo, and I think that at future Blizzcons we might set up different ways for people to compete at the game, but that's very different from creating a professional tournament structure around something like that. In order to do that, you really need to get everything right and you have to have the depth of strategy, you have to look at making sure that the strategies that are successful are balanced, and fun, and entertaining to watch, and all those things. So we're not so sure that that's where we should be focusing for Diablo. There are a lot of other elements of Diablo that are a lot more important.
I am so happy about this. I know that a lot of people want to see esports (or namely, pvp). PvP will come eventually, but this statement essentially means that they will never put 100% priority on balancing pvp while neglecting pve. I realize that there are a lot of people on the forums who want pvp, and I read this in many threads over and over again. So is there anyone else in the same boat with me? As a Diablo player from the very start of the first game, I can't see how pvp would even fit into the lore/rpg aspect of the game, and it doesn't add anything great to the mechanics either. It's about fighting evil together, not fighting each other; it's about looting stuff, not ripping off someone's ear. If they would've focused on pvp, they would have to decrease the impact of gear and increase the impact of "skill" and "builds" etc. - which is against everything what I envision Diablo 3 standing for. You beat the game if you kill all evil and acquire all loot - and not by beating other players in a pointless dual about personal animosities.
