My 5th and FINAL submission. Possibly my favorite out of the bunch, though I do love my fashion show one. For the love of all that is holy, please grant me thine beta key.
Congrats to me, I've now spent 100 hours of total editing trying to win this contest.
As for this 4th submission, I thought it would be a nice change to take the characters from the original pic and do something creative with them. I noticed that the zombie corpses have a VERY runway style look to them, and the purging just topped the cake. I love the result, hopefully the judges will too.
I understand what you're saying. And your picture was really talented I won't refuse it. But you can't judge how they select the winner. And you don't even have to do all of this in a forum. There's a flood of your messages just because you wrote 1 opinion and people gone bad of it. And quotes going over and over flooding the forum for nothing.
What i'm trying to say and I just quoted your message is that many people here talk about the winner. The guys who select the winners in this contest probably may have bad or just better humour of some others. So they judged it that this could win at this weekend. No need to get mad for anything. Just participate more guys.
Geez.
That's entirely fair, but there are further implications to consider when factoring in last week's judgement. I now have absolutely ZERO idea on how to tackle this project. There is no indication towards the road to success, other than the fact that effort is clearly not a factor, and that the humor and references are so utterly subjective as to border conspiracy...lol I mean seriously, has this judgement not reflected the idea that this contest is simply a matter of luck once you weed out all the "bad" submissions? Nothing about that winner stands out, which leads me to believe that nothing about this week's winner will stand out. It has become a quest for simplicity and mediocrity. As a person who values achievement above all else, there is no longer a logical and verifiable method available to me for pursuing this course. Any average entry can win, and as bad as I want a D3 key, I am incapable of accepting something so valuable which I feel I did not deserve.
This has been my 12th failed attempt at receiving a key, as well as the one I put my greatest effort into. I genuinely believed that this was my chance to shine, and show my dedication and talent in a way that could give me the reward I so desperately seek. I was wrong, and it's my loss. No such contest exists, and I've come to believe that it probably never will. Charity and altruism remain dominant. Diablofans.com: 1 - Gosu: -12
seriously? that was the winner?
you know i saw a bunch of entries better than mine. That winner was not one of them... I'll just wait for Blizzard's invite or game release.. no point wasting my time here.
Unfortunately, I absolutely agree. During the first contest, when I was browsing through the entries I thought, "wow this one is great" or, "haha, awesome, very creative and a high level of skill" or, "damn that is pretty funny lol". I thought, these are the ones that have the best chance. These are the ones that I can guarantee will make it into consideration.
Now when I look at these new submissions I think, "that's pretty funny, nothing special, but hey, it has just as good a chance at winning as EVERYTHING else!" Nothing stands out in the slightest. However, every submission that looks like it took longer than 30 minutes is immediately disqualified. It's an entirely subjective and unfounded judgement call that you are just as likely to appeal to as you are at winning a random raffle. It has literally become a win-by-chance "contest", if it can even be called a contest. As I said before, your best chance of winning now exists by submitting as many mediocre entries as you possibly can, and hoping that one of them appeals to the judge's unfathomable interests.
My initial shock, anger and confusion, has transformed into amusement at the unbelievable choice for "best of all submissions". If I wasn't still so disappointed, I would be laughing.
Gosukusan, the case is more like you do not want to understand, for stubbornness and pride. Obvious that the vomiting change in hearts was a quick example. Why the monster with pink heart in the face instead of the original? It is not hard to understand that it can be done in this print or any other. The winner for example, linked to the print can not be done now.
Refusal to understand is something I will never accept. I fully understand what you are trying to say, and my stubbornness only exists where the knowledge of truth is obvious. The monster having a heart on his face was simply to exacerbate that purpose of the content, not to signify anything in particular. The face itself was the focus of that particular object. It's not like I consider a heart on the monster's face a revolutionary and original idea, not even in the slightest. The reasoning for it exists within the premise of the entire concept. Why do you continue to emphasize the fact that it "can be done in this print or any other"?. That is not relevant to judgement of the quality of an entry in the slightest. It doesn't matter that it can be done by anyone who chooses to do it or that the idea can exist as a generality, what matters is that it was done in conformity of the original idea and in a creative and attractive manner. You cannot rule out an entire set of ideas because their premise can be duplicated in a variety of ways. That is the whole point of the contest; to take an idea and make it special. Like the nerf bat reference, and the Aladdin reference, and the caption changing mid transformation. Yes these ideas exist in a world that may be deemed generic in conception, but the quality of the implementation and the overall content, creativity, and displayed effort are what stand out in the final product.
Gosukusan. U're wrong. Again I'm not evaluating the art, which has praised many times, but the concept it is not strongly tied to print. The concept is to transform the world of D3 in the "world zelda". As an example, make the vomit this print in flying hearts, etc...
And I was not happy with the result, as I explained before.
Sorry but I'm not wrong. You obviously aren't understanding what I'm saying. To use your example, turning the vomit in this print in flying hearts, does not apply. It doesn't apply, because its creative premise for existing...is non-existent. Why is the vomit flying hearts? Why chose the vomit? What makes it the focus? How would you apply an original idea to justify the changing of the vomit? How would you give that idea a reason to exist within the world? What represents that idea? Why flying hearts? Also, the fact that you would discredit a transformation of the art in any way proves your illogical opinion towards the subject matter. And as a note, the world is not meant to represent the world of zelda. In fact, the ONLY Zelda reference within the bubble is the bomb explosion animation. The rest of the bubble is a combination of references that reflect an overall semi-original style. I'm not defending the art, I'm defending the method. Inserting unoriginal art is in no way, shape or form a preferable and admirable alternative to the variety of transformation ideas that exist. Such original transformation exists to create originality in a way that adding unoriginal work can scarcely accomplish. How can you disagree when the premise of the contest is to "transform" the picture into something "great"? I don't know why I keep wasting my time trying to explain. I just have to accept the fact that some people prefer the simplicity of ignorance when confronted with the complexity of truth.
Such a bad person behind a nice talent. So you mention that they have to reward dedication and talent. So means that only you have talent and we deserve nothing. Great. You want a beta key to play the game?? Grats.
My talent is testing games and leaving feedbacks but I'm not crying for a beta key. Do you know how many pathetic people want a beta key just to play a game and do nothing than enjoy their time? Diablo 3 is in BETA testing and it's called testing for TESTERS. Not because you are bored and you want to play Diablo 3. I am hyped for the game too. But it's ok I won't do a whole forum madness just because I lost in a contest and that - because I wanna test the game - and not play it.
As I said my talent is testing games as till now I was in more than 20 beta games leaving feedbacks. But I don't use this as a reaction to make myself clearer WHY I DESERVE to take a beta key. Talent will never win in this contest. I saw the picture of the guy who won and I didn't got what he was trying to "say" with that. But when I saw the real image from the cartoon I realised that this image was clever. And congratulations to him that he did it.
Calm down, use more brain along with talent. And you will be rewarded.
I'm sorry, but you have grossly misunderstood my words. Your English does not seem to be very good, so this is understandable. Please allow me to clarify.
The entire purpose of my original post was to accuse this contest of failing to give credit where it is due. I am not talking about SOLELY myself. There were SO MANY wonderful entries that I had the pleasure of viewing throughout this contest. Their magnificence inspired me to take this contest seriously, and really give it everything I had.
I am not crying for a beta key. Do you think that I think that I will receive one by posting these opinions? lol Not a chance in hell. What does wanting a key have to do with being bored? lol I'm not bored, I'm a diehard fan and I wanted a chance to EARN a key. I thought this was my chance, and I was wrong. This is not intended to be forum madness, it is intended to promote justice, and smack down incompetence where it is observed. Wanting to test the game instead of play it gives you LESS reason to receive a key. Your testing is based solely on how much you plan on PLAYING the game. Blizzard doesn't want your opinions on the game mechanics, they want your slot to be filled in the server to test its stability, as well as the infrastructure of Bnet.
Therefore, your ability as a tester will not, and should not, get you an inch closer to receiving a key. That is not what this beta is about, and seeing as you are supposedly a talented tester, you should have been aware of this already. Yes, the winning image was mildly clever, but there was absolutely nothing special about it. Calling me a bad person? You don't even know me. This is why I usually avoid forums, I don't even know why I'm still here, I know this will all fall on deaf ears.
Please refer to the section in my first post regarding my lesser's and their humiliating and unsolicited attempts at responding to a topic that is beyond their intelligence level. *Thumbs up* big guy, go finish your long division homework, 'proud of you.
Hard fail for calling it a "Caption Contest" and picking something where a user adds a piece of clipart.
Is this a Caption Contest or a graphics contest? You go from a contest where any average joe can add some clever text and potentially win to something where one needs to know how to use a graphics editor and/or be graphically inclined.
Retarded.
There is nothing retarded about it turning into a graphic contest. I didn't have access to any photo-editing software other than MS Paint and I created something very artistic. Unfortunately, this contest requires that you don't use your brain. The average joe should not win a contest like this. It should have rewarded the person who displayed the greatest effort with the best result considering the premise of the contest, regardless of their method of display.
But this week's winner just goes to show that anyone can win! Isn't that great? Let's give precious beta keys to anyone who might want one! It's not like some people have been killing for one and would do anything to obtain it. Does diablofans represent the masses? Apparently.

Not true, everyone has a chance! Just look at last week's winner!
You stole my first idea.
