sale numbers are pretty and all but in no way reflect the current player base. anyone playing from day 1 would be able to confirm this just by looking at the queues / public games available back then and now... and of course, public game availability is also no way to measure a game's current player base as the introduction of clans basically killed pugs.
its a good thing you said "viewer interest OFTEN relates to player" because there are plenty of good examples that actually are outside of the OFTEN measurements. Take for example Puzzle and Dragons, 41 mil downloads worldwide, over 2.54 billion total revenue on micro sales -- outdoing most games on twitch and yet, it is a bottom feeder with very little viewers.. i think wow vanilla gets more than pad.
dont think suggesting to stream another game is a bad suggestion. if the person wants to actually become a "professional" streamer, then he is better off finding something that will get him more viewers faster, which can lead to sponsorships that much sooner. If he is just doing it for the fun of it, then getting 1-2 new subscribers shouldnt be an issue as that is not the most immediate goal.
Hey Synapse88 here, i have been streaming on Twitch since February. I started streaming Diablo 3 shortly before Season 3. I have a total of 37 followers on twitch and I gain 1-2 new followers a week if that. I'm not begging people to come watch my stream for pity but more along the lines of what can I do different. There are roughly 30-40 different Diablo 3 streams going on at once maybe more, so when I start streaming I'm way at the bottom of the list. My wife supports me and is always in my stream boosting me up to 2 viewers instead of 1. (I know there are lots of grammar errors within this, please don't judge or hate on that I know internet trolls who love to bash on people who are horrible with grammar.) Back to my rant ( lol ), so please helpful tips would be great also anyone think maybe I should switch to Hitbox I am not sure if I should considering how small the viewer counts are. I actively post on twitter my handle is @synapse_88 and my twitch link is www.twitch.tv/synapse88 please check me out some time. Also please give helpful tips not useless internet bashing thanks so much!

One more stupid person. Diablo 3 is the 5th most played game which is connected to the internet. You lost your bet....
As of last month it was only beaten by League of legends, world of warcraft, counter strike: global offensive and dota 2.
when you say stupid person, you shouldnt put yourself down in such a way..
also, are you making up those numbers or did you just google "twitch stats for last month"... please tell me you did so i can laugh and get others to laugh along as well.... because, you know, those numbers in no way represent any significant stats of a game...any game.
please come back and let me know, i am dying to discuss your lack of self respect and internet smartz.
