It's good to see a lot of the same people here posting, sorry I've been gone so long. Work, work, work, along with a fair amount of disappointment with D3 has kept me away, but life has slowed down a bit finally.
College is a good thing and I would have loved to have gone myself in retrospect. Understand though it won't necessarily teach you how to start a successful business. My old room mate started two nutrition companies EAS and then MRI, he has 2 years community college under his belt which he never finished. He is worth millions today. Myself, I've been a computer systems and network engineer for 20 years and currently am a VP of IT systems and security with just a high school education. It boils down to determination, the initiative to educate yourself, and real life lessons even after you get the book smarts. You will get that lesson regardless if you go to school or not in the real world. I'm not down on college, nor am I telling you not to go, but I think it's important to know, you can still make it without it if you are determined.
Hey, guys. I'm gonna tell you the story of how I got fucked over and lied to.
So I went on...
[all that mess]
If anyone wants to throw some advice my way, it'd be much appreciated. My parents don't think it's a good idea to continue association with this place, but I just wanted some other opinions as well. I feel very cheated and, frankly, I want no part in this. If anyone sees any sort of value in this, then I'd be happy to hear your opinion.
You have to be careful of agencies, some them will even try to charge you money for them to go find a job for you, and then they don't serious as a heart attack. If I had it to do all over again with the benefit of starting over living at home, I would not get a job, I would start my own business, and you can do it without having to spend much money at all.
When you hand someone an application or resume, as you said in your post you "lack of job experience." When you hand someone a business card you are suddenly the expert, I shit you not. I ran my IT consulting and service company for a few years and found that out. I was quite surprised at how drastically that transformation occurred. I closed that business because an IT consulting business is a terrible business model full of headaches, essentially you are the business.
You have a computer and camera, you could open a web design company for very little, all it takes is doing some research for a good angle. So you know I'm not just giving BS advice, in about 3 years my stock options will have paid out at the start-up company I work at now, when that ends, I won't take another job ever again. I will have an online business up and running by that time.
Why am I recommending this? You are single, young, you live at home. You can afford to invest the time, failure doesn't mean going hungry or homeless and you don't have a wife that will nag you about not seeing you or risking the family's security.
It is a statistical fact that 1 out of every 10 businesses fail. To ensure 100% success, all you have to do is be willing to start 10 businesses understanding you might fail 9 times before succeeding. It probably won't take you that many times, what you learn in that process will be invaluable because each failure will help you do better next time. Failure is a necessary part of success, like falling is a necessary part of learning to walk for a baby. I assure you when you do succeed, you will make more than enough to cover the failures a 100 times over.
...from the other thread before I got lambasted by the idiot peanut gallery.
Since you mentioned the patch had made improvements I have been playing nightmare mode in D3 to see if I'd like it any better. Like I was saying earlier the real test is when you hit the goat men after taking down Leoric, that seems to be where the mini-bosses really pick up steam and the pack of mongrels have the ridiculous 80's arcade style stationary spinning arcane laser beams.
I made a nightmare mode game play video below, it shows regular monsters and then the mini-bosses as I call them. You can see I'm on my way to fighting Leoric; the normal monsters are what I would expect for nightmare mode, I'm totally good with this. Then when I get to the mini-bosses even before hitting the fields I can already tell they are well over the top of what mini boss fights were in D2. As you can see I take a few hits to see how much damage they inflict which is also what I about expected as D2 had mini-bosses like that as well.
What annoys me is you have to shoot them fricking forEVer to kill them. In D2 only a few mini bosses, like certain zombies and an occasional succubus had to be shot countless times to be taken down, even fewer of those bosses could and would chase you down. In D3, it's obvious every damn mini boss can practically chase you down, and they need to be shot like 100 f***ing times to be taken out. Also nothing seems to really slow them down, neither my caltrops, or my mine trap has much affect. Also you can see even rain of vengeance doesn't have too much affect.
Sure I can play the game like this. Is it enjoyable for me? No, it's redundant and annoying to me. That type of game play is not what made me like D1 and D2. There have been a lot of other people who have complained about D3 along these lines. I think that is why Bashiok in his recent apology mentioned they are considering something like the 'players 8' command which lets people set monster difficulty IMO. I can only hope they do something about it.
One day we brought home a bag with 6 habanero peppers in it. We set it on counter and went back out. When we came back home we discovered the bag on the kitchen floor shredded with one pepper left. One of my dogs (collie/shepard mix) had the guilty face so we knew which one it was. I shook the last pepper at him "scolding" him and he sat up and started wagging his tail like he wanted it so I let him have it.
Now, we were expecting to see "explosions" or at least some not so solid reaction - so we isolated him in an area that was easy to clean up and waited. Nothing out of the ordinary happened - just a regular movement. That was one iron gutted dog.
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! (and it's great to see you Stormcat)
On the job front, I don't hold my breath. My boss is about as sexist as they come, and I'm not a female so she probably will do anything she can to keep me from getting the promotion. :/
And as for the spicy shit, holy hell, I can barely handle mild sauce at Taco Bell...
That's pretty lame, I hope it works out despite that.
Me too on the spice, I'm a spice wimp, Pace Picante Mild sauce is hot as I like things.
You can tell him that he's an amateur, you want the devil to prostrate himself before your fiery ass, eat the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion. I ate it and had to go to the ER. The doctor who treated me, added a sentence to the release forms that read, "And I hereby proclaim myself an official dumb ass for eating the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion." Sadly, no video, and I couldn't get a copy of the form with it being a medical thing and all. Will I eat the scorpion pepper again, hell no. I will try the hotsauce if it's available.
Habanero is nothing. I throw that shit in my chili.
I asked him before he downed that thing if that was the hottest pepper and he said it only fell between 100,000 and 350,000 on the Scoville rating chart but that it was still pretty hot, he mentioned the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion was the hottest and was on par with law enforcement grade pepper spray
I would not have allowed him to eat something that is as hot as police grade pepper spray, I'll bet you had a hell of a time in ER with that scorpion pepper.
More pictures. These are taken in our summerhouse area, that's the sea on the bottom picture. There were practically no waves, and it was beautiful. The ripples (you can faintly make out on the left side) are from a rock I threw before the shot.
Right you are proletaria, and the names you list also show the huge diversity in styles and sounds that made great music great. I'm not so surprised at the cookie cutter bands out there today, but I am stunned at how many singers sound so similar. I didn't think it possible, but the list in the mainstream is shamefully huge. The other thing I find sad is the lack of patience found in the top rated music as well, everything is so rushed.
One of the most bad ass songs in rock history is The Who's, Eminence Front, you just doesn't see that kind of patience often in music anymore, a measured approach to music like this adds so much presence.
I suppose you've never heard of a group called The Dangerous Summer?
No but I just looked them up and listened to Where I want to be, War Paint, and Work in Progress. They're very good but I don't think they will take the music scene by storm, at least with their current sound. The best bands in history are the ones who's sound was either so dynamic they basically kept reinventing the sound of their genre of music or those that had a timeless quality to them.
Take Genesis for example, that was a band of just super talent, out of it came Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, both pushed the boundaries of music. Steely Dan is another act that was so good they could have written the songs yesterday and they would still hit the charts today. Robert Plant was often referred to the man with a thousand voices because his vocals we're just that good and Jimmy Page is one rocks greatest guitarists. AC/DC had Angus Young and Van Halen had Eddie, both bands were so good musically they succeeded despite losing their lead singers, that's pretty rare. Rush is another band that was so progressive and different in their sound that they were labeled SciFi Rock because it was that different, this was before Alternative was even a term. Plus they have arguably the greatest drummer and bassist in rock.
Marilyn Manson, Tool, I think are more recent examples of acts that have redefined music. The real test is will their music be played 30 years from now on a station with regular frequency. If yes, then you have something IMO. I'm tired of listening to the older stuff, so I really would love to see some new very different stuff come out redefining music again.
Even old school rap required the talent of jumping through all the hoops in order to become famous. Now you're rich, you can just be a rapper. It seems like there is almost no effort behind it nowadays compared to what i used to take to become any sort of musician or entertainer, whatever you want to call it, and it's just getting worse. Now you have the kids of the people who bought their way into music who are making music all just because they're rich. I mean honestly look at this historically, are people just getting that much better at singing and playing music that a larger percentage is famous for it? No it's all advertising, how much money you have, and who your parents are.
Will Smith's kids are a perfect example:
There is some incredible talent out there but it seems like once again, like we had to in the 80's you have to go hunting for it. The stuff the music moguls are pushing on us now is just the similar sounding bovine they can count on to sell a predictable number of releases from. So bland, so boring, so want to gouge my ears out after 5 minutes of it on the radio.
Can't sing? No problem, just yell it it at the same fervid pitch for the whole song.
Lyrics suck? No problem, just yell it it at the same fervid pitch for the whole song. Also just repeat the same banal cliches in every song like God Smack does, now go away!
Don't sound original enough? No problem neither do the Foo Fighters, or Rise Against, or Nickleback, or any number of other acts being over played today.
Not extreme or alternative enough? No worries all the extreme and alternative radio stations are playing fluffy fluff sounds from bands like Fun and just calling it extreme alternative.
If 3 or 4 acts with the talent of Led Zeppelin, Floyd, Queen, AC/DC, etc. in that caliber hit the scene and got noticed, you could kiss all these poser acts goodbye over night. Look at Nirvana, they pretty much ended Loverboy's career over night. I so wish for another moment like that again, we seriously need to flush the crap out.

That does seem interesting
We love our fluff, he has quite the personality.
That second shot is just bliss.
My son decided to challenge himself to eat a raw habanero chili pepper last night, naturally I video taped the event
