I just don't understand the mentality here! You want to solo inferno. Cool! You want to do it on a wizard. OK! You want to do this because you need good drops to do it on a monk. You want to be able to do it with little to no drops or something? All classes need items to be viable in inferno. Thats been clearly stated for a while.
Not flaming. Just don't understand. You'll need good items regardless of your class. If you don't you can count on blizzard doing some reworking. Like force armor or smokescreen. To solo you'll need a good selection of survivability and DPS abilities and items. Regardless of your class this will always be true. You're not going to beat Hell and walk into inferno and 3 shot everything. My wizard friend never used force armor and has plenty of trouble with the game. My other friend used the force armor method and now is emo about the class and rerolling a DH. Just have fun with the game where you can getting the items necessary to play the class the way you want.
It's kind of a generally accepted fact that monks and barbarians are more item intensive in inferno right now, particularly for soloplay. I think the difference is that DH and wizards, while they still need survivability stats, don't need them to the same degree that monks and barbs do. Obviously melee classes are going to have to tank more hits. Wizards and DH can avoid a lot of affixes and base mobs by simply kiting this means they can afford to stack damage higher and aren't essentially forced into building tanky. Yes, youneed vit and some other defensive stats, I understand, but the fact is that as a monk or barb you really get forced into building almost 100% defensive and trying to tank for a dh or wizard. Thats just the best way to do it because unlike the wizard and DH, you can't afford to forego and survivability at all. If you try to mix and match and maybe go 50% vit 50% dex, you're going to get obliterated. The DPS you gain from that doesn't compensate for the lack of survivability and you end up unable to solo elite packs or much of the content at all. If you go full tank you can't solo it either because you have no DPS, but you can at least get carried by a ranged DPS and be of some use to them.
So the reason why I think monk and barbarian are more gear intensive for soloplay and probably for group play as well is because you can't really even think about DPS. DPS needs to be an afterthought on your gear which means you need really good gear with 6 affixes per slot to start being the hybrid tank/dps that is capable of soling anything in infero. That is to say, you need to stack the vit, life%, resists, armor, etc just like a tank, and you need to get your DPS stacks from addtiional affixes. You just need really high end gear that has both high tanky stats and high DPS stats. Naturally this gear is expensive as **** or rare, so you need good drops to afford it, thus you need to build tanky and group up to even think about farming anything for drops, thus you end up the tanky monk that my main is... Don't enjoy tanking at all, find it incredibly boring, never had any intention of building a pure tank monk... Yet here I am with 40k hp 5.5k armor and 700 all resists... 3k dps. living the dream.
Am I leveling a wizard only to farm gear for my monk? No, I'll probably enjoy wizard as well and play/gear out both as much as I can. I'm not a tank though, never played one before and I don't enjoy the play style so yes I am going to try to gear my monk out via my wizard so I can stop feeling sorry for myself that I rolled the gimp tank bitch class and being bored out of my mind.
there is a plenty and plenty of topics about builds and ideas and gameplay and everything, do you exapact someone will come here and copy all that here for you ?:/
my problem is that half of them seem out dated due to the nerfs... No I don't expect people to give me a compendium of builds i'm looking for peoples thoughts on what builds are currently best for inferno after the recent nerfs...
There also aren't many topics about pre-infenro builds... I don't really see how this is so redundant?
Whats up guys. I have a level 60 monk on act 3 of inferno, but I intended to play DPS at launch and severely regret my class decision as monks are forced into tanking roles in inferno due to unbelievably stupid class balancing on blizzards part.
I decided to roll a wizard today because I want to be able to solo inferno and DPS... That was my goal coming into this game and as a monk you're just way too gear dependent to do anything but tank until you have a fortune/really lucky drops.
So I've come here to ask you guys what build I should use. My goal is strictly to solo inferno. Ideally I would like to be able to kill elite packs for the nephalem valor, what build is best for this?
Looking for wizards or DH for act 2 progression /act 1 farming. i've farmed the **** out of butcher, probably did him 50 times the last two days but my partner is getting on my nerves a little bit. I'm looking for someone who has already done butcher, has good gear. I'm a monk and I'll tank for you, you should know how to kite elite packs. Don't need to be online all the time like my current partner. If lots of people are interested we can 3 or 4 man it.
If you take over 10 seconds after an elite pack to compare the stats of every item you pick up and think diligently on them, please don't post here. I get OCD about inefficieny. I'm not anal about it but my current partner literally spends 20 seconds after every pack to consider every item he gets, and takes about 3 minutes every time he goes to town to sell... I don't care if you have to go sell twice every run, but if I'm pulling the next mobs and you're coming in 30 seconds late we have a problem...
Alias: Stringer Team Info: Looking for a team at the moment. Age: 20 What Class are you looking to play? Monk How long have you been playing Diablo games? Haven't played any besides D3 beta, but I have a TON of MMO experience... pretty hardcore gamer, play competitive RTS and am generally good at video games/have the experience to know how to play well. How long are you looking to play for before taking a break at launch? I'm probably going to pick up some food on the 14th. I would like maybe a 10 minute lunch break to grab food and bring it to my computer, same with dinner and breakfast. Will try to keep some snacks on hand. I get the mindset and am not expecting frequent/long breaks. Realistically I can probably grab food for lunch and be back at my computer in 4 or 5 minutes at the minimum if you/the team really dont want to spend any time on that, w/e works. Do you have the day of the 15th off? Yes i have no responsibilities on the 15th or 16th. Additional Useful Information or Remarks? So I have the 15th and 16th completely free and am looking to pretty much marathon until around 10 PM at the 16th, maybe a bit earlier if people are beat before then but thats the latest I can go til. On the 17th I need to make a 6 hour drive to where I'm spending the summer, should be back online around 6 PM if all goes well, then on the morning of the 18th I have a job interview. Ideally I won't be starting work for another week after that so I can no-life a bit more, then after that I will probably be working part time.
I'm perfectly okay with just playing with a group for the 15th and 16th, I get that I'm probably going to fall pretty far behind due to my obligations for the next two days, and would be perfectly cool to sit out and let you guys do your thing/pick someone else up after that. Maybe when I catch up after the 18th we can group back up but whatever works is fine with me. I'm really just looking for a group for the first two days, beyond that I don't really care if you guys decide to pick me back up or roll with someone else.
Hey. I will be playing a monk on the 15th and am looking for a group like what you seem to be going for.
I'm willing to play whatever role/build is needed by the group and I've spent a lot of time theorycrafting builds/lurking the monk forums over the past month or two so I'm pretty familiar with the skills, runes, and mechanics. I have a ton of experience playing just about every role in MMOs, got a long history as a very skilled pvper, etc, but I will be honest... My Diablo experience is pretty limited. Never played D2, but I did spend a lot of time learning the game in the open beta weekend and I'm pretty confident that I can play very well. Again I have a ton of MMO experience so I'm very familiar with the basic concepts. I've also palyed RTS competitively for years so I can do the fast clicking stuff....
Personal stuff out of the way, I'm going to be upfront and let you know that I won't have much time to play on the 17th... I am going to be making a 6 hour drive on the 17th up to where I'll be spending the summer, and have a job interview on the morning of the 18th. After that I will probably have a week or so to go hardcore again unless they really need me to start immediately... I don't expect the group to wait for me... You guys are obviously pretty dedicated to this game. So long story short I'd be down to marathon with you guys on the 15th and up until the night of the 16th, probably will need to go to bed around 10 PM If I'm not sleeping on the 15th, but after that if you guys want to replace me or do whatever I will understand completely. If you're not interested in something temporary like this and would rather have someone who you can farm with for weeks on end then thats fine as well, I'll look somewhere else...
That said I do plan on playing pretty hardcore after the morning of the 18th so if I'm not too far behind I would be willing to keep going from there. Let me know...
Obviously it will depend on how much survivability we need to tackle inferno, but in theory I really like sweeping wind. It is probably our most efficient damage dealer.
I intend to use a 2 hander to maximize skill damage, and I will be stacking crit and dex pretty heavily. With the quickening rune you should be able to build a lot of spirit pretty fast even while using 2 handers if you stack crit. I like sweeping wind because the damage with Blade Storm is quite good. It costs 75 spirit which is significant, but once it up it can stay up forever in theory. The great thing about it is that it's doing good damage without costing you any time or spirit once you have it up. So I can be building more spirit with fists of thunder or dumping spirit with lashing tail kick and on top of that be getting really nice damage from sweeping wind at the same time. Cyclone strike is there for some really nice aoe damage once I have SW at 3 stacks, but I may replace it for more survivability.
Additionally I'm not set on my mantra at this point. Since I'm stacking dex I think the dodge mantra might be pretty good and its backlash rune seems like it could be pretty good against large packs of trash.
LTK is probably our most efficient spirit dump, but most people including myself dislike the knockback. It interferes with EP and SW aoes... If there was a rune to remove the knockback I think it would be a very good ability... Still a good ability as is though.
I'm really not a big fan of seven sided strike... A lot of people are using it in their builds but the cooldown is kind of a deal breaker for me.
I'm in a somewhat strange situation here... I'm looking for a few hardcore players to group up with for the 15th (from 3 am onward) and the 16th. I will be online at 3 AM on the 15th and can play until the night of the 16th.
On the 17th I have to drive to Maine where I'm spending the summer, its a 6 hour drive... I will need to get a reasonable amount of sleep because I tend to doze off on the road... If I play through the night of the 15th I will probably need to be offline on the 16th around 9 or 10 PM. If not I can be up til 12 or so, would prefer to pull the all nighter on the 15th though.
So long story short I'm looking for a group for those two days that is going to be all about progressing as fast as possible. I'm not interested in stopping to smell the roses, story stuff, etc... I want to be farming hell and progressing into inferno as fast as I can. Given the nature of such a group I expect to fall pretty far behind due to my obligations on the 17th (and have a job interview on the 18th) so I expect to be behind 15-20 hours of play by the time I can get back into no-lifing it. Don't expect you guys to wait for me so for that reason I expect this to be just a 2 day thing. You guys can roll as 3 or replace me after that, do whatever works for you.
I will be playing a monk and can play virtually any role, I'm not picky. I can support/heal, tank, dps, hybrid, etc.... Whatever you need. I have limited diablo experience, but played open beta and don't think it will be a problem. I've also played MMOs hardcore for years and I'm a competitive RTS player so I should be able to perform well.
Email me at jkaplan2@bryant.edu or PM me here if you're interested.
I should also be on on the 17th around 6 PM and will play pretty lane. After my interview on the 18th (at 11 AM) I will be back to no-lifing for hopefully another week or so depending on when the job starts.
I'm looking for a group for release night/ the day after. Unfortunately I have to make a pretty long drive to where I'm going to be spending the summer on the 17th, and I have a job interivew on the 18th.
I intend to be online at 3 AM on the 15th, and will play as much as I can until the night of the 16th (will have to get a decent amount of sleep becasue its a 6 hour drive on the 17th).
So essentially I'll be avaialble to play hardcore for the 15th and until the late night of the 16th. Due to my obligations on the 17th and 18th I don't expect to group with you guys much after that... I'm looking for a hardcore group for the 15th and 16th and the probability of me finding people with similar scheduling problems is very low so I'm just looking for a group that would be willing to pick me up for the first two days and then either go as 3 of fill the spot with someone else because I assume I will be pretty far behind since I will probably be losing about 15-20 hours of play time on the 17th and 18th...
I am going to be playing a monk and I don't care what role you want me to play. I can support pretty hard, tank, hybrid, dps etc... Whatever the group needs. I have limited experience in the Diablo series but played open beta and have tons of hardcore MMO experience/competitive gamer... I want to progress as fast as possible don't really care about story elements and stuff.
If you're interested email me at jkaplan2@bryant.edu or PM me here.
