If you are rich..buy higher dps offhand...if not, get a stat stick...though im pretty sure a 600 dps offhand vs 850dps offhand save me alot of time in killing mob...
Also, all theory doesn't matter if you are rich enough to pump your toon up
D3 isn't like WOW where there is a certain stats which makes it less desirable after reaching a certain break point...In D3, the higher the stats, the better...
The 2 interesting "theory" in D3 is MF% modifier of gear quality, and why some roll is just pure horribad even with 200++% MF gear
I did a few tests with the whirlwind barb. It was done pre-patch, but most things are still accurate.
1. Whirlwind is only about 10-15 % of the DPS, the rest comes from tornadoes. The purpose of whirlwind is not the DPS, it's the ability to move through/around mobs and place tornados and get additional LoH procs.
2. Offhand DPS therefore doesn't matter that much, however it matters against bosses or runner mobs, where you have to use bash.

Essentially get your shouts up, run towards a pack of enemies, hit your sprint, hold down whirlwind, and profit. Just make sure you're hitting enough mobs for the crits to keep your fury maxed so you can infinitely whirlwind. 40%+ crit chance, 1k+ LoH, 800+ buffed AR, and i'd say at least 25-30k dps. If you can gear enough to hit 50-60k+ dps unbuffed, you could easily go the alkaizer route and run infinite berserker too, which I am currently trying to get to with my barb as the speed you are able to farm is insane.
That is why people prefer a mace (which has high base damage given its naturally lower aps) for mainhand
they use mace/axe is for the 10% critical chance gain through passive.
The base dmg is irrelevant..... it is up to how well u roll ur 6 stats (high element dmg with %dmg boast)then u will have 1k+ dps.
He's partially right though. Axes and maces have a 1.2 attack speed meaning in order for them to hit that same "dps" mark as a faster weapon such as a sword or dagger, their damage ranges have to be alot higher to make up for the fact the weapon only swings 1.2 times per second. When abilities calculate damage based off of weapon damage, they aren't looking at the DPS figure, they're looking at the weapons actual damage ranges. So a slow weapon with 1K dps that has a lot higher damage per hit, will make weapon damage based moves hit harder. This is also why a fast offhand is prefered, in order to make up for the slow mainhand. Your attack speed, with no other gear modifiers, is averaged between your main and offhand. So if you have a 1.2 mainhand, that has 1k "DPS", meaning really high damage range, and a 1.4 offhand, you will swing 1.3 times per second, which if you're occupying that entire second with a move (such as a WW barb does), that's 1.3 attacks per second that are effectively being done with just your mainhand. The fact that there's a passive that works in harmony with another ability, is just a bonus. You would still use an axe/mace in your mainhand if that passive didn't exist.
one of em for sure. I took a stat sheet damage loss of about 7k going to my super cheap 1.3m won's (845 dps, 22% lightning skill damage, single dex roll, no crit damage/socket) yet i can repeatedly kill siegebreaker a good 10+ seconds faster over my other weapon with crit damage and a socket. A good 900+ dps won's w/ crit damage socket would be amazing but I can't afford it.
Disregarding cost as a factor, an 1100+ dps, 1.2 speed (mace/spear) weapon with crit damage, dex, and a socket in your mainhand with a 900+ dps Won Khim Lau with Dex, 20%+ lightning skill damage, crit damage, and a socket in your offhand.
This is assuming the cookie cutter thunderclap/cyclone build with 30%+ crit chance.
Also, don't forget that a monk's true dps is several magnitudes higher than the ingame statsheet or any current spreadsheet due to the cyclones, especially with a high rolled won khim lau. A 40% crit chance monk can put out several hundred thousand DPS in an area around him quite easily once cyclone really starts to roll. Especially if you're running overawe and/or faith in the light.
just to get 1 thing straight here, kill streaks dont work past 40-50 monsters killed, it has been like that since beta so that you cant get massive amount of exp
Yes they do. I got 11k something bonus xp for an 83 monster massacre earlier.
You guys do know that a geared WW barb can full clear the arreat crater run to azmodan in 1 super big sweep and wrack up a monstrous massacre bonus right? He's probably going through that over and over and over again. Takes maybe a minute per run and he probably gets 100+ kill massacre bonuses at the end. Leave game, repeat.
You're also really armour heavy when act 3+ is a resist check so i'd suggest switching out hard target for time of need. Try picking up a couple weapons with crit damage AND a socket, then put more crit damage in those sockets. You don't need a shield. In act 3/4, if you don't kill stuff fast enough, it will kill you first, regardless of how much armour you have. As you can see from my profile above, I have put alot more into damage as opposed to defense, and I die at most once or twice to the super hard elite packs that are in the middle of trash. I have 5.8k armour, 614 resists after time of need, and 30k hp - but my damage goes to 42k with blazing wrath up.
Came back a few days ago and got back into my monk since my glass cannon DH doesn't work so well any more. I started with the monk at first, but when I got stuck in act 2 I quit it for the DH. Since coming back i've doubled my resistances and gone to a DW build which has got me through act 2 and up to cidea(sp?) but i'm really struggling with elite packs, especially phasebeasts. My dps needs to go up but i'm not sure where to upgrade at. I only have about 8M to upgrade with atm too.
So I have been trying to log in all morning and I keep getting error 315300 saying my login information is incorrect. My first thought was well damn someone actually managed to hack me w/ a 22 digit pass w/ a mix of upper, lower, number, "leetspeak", and symbols and an authenticator attached. I went and recovered and chose I think I may have been hacked as my reason since I know i didn't forget my pass or user, and I got my pass changed no problem. Still doesn't work. I go to try to log in to battle.net again and this time it says Authenticator Value Invalid. D'oh. Just gotta resync. Wrong. Resync isn't doing anything, still can't log in, can't log in to battle.net to remove my authenticator, can't log in to post on the forums for help, and i've been redialling customer support for over an hour and all I ever get is we're sorry our phone que's are full please try again later *click*.

What are the chances of that? We were group clearing act 3 for xp and found these off 2 different mobs in the keep.
