If you used abilities to abuse snapshot you got a buff.
So, I did want to confirm this ^.
I did some testing on the PTR (MP10 Nightmare Belial with tiny dps (around 1500))
Specfically i just started SW with no dps boosts and got a decent idea on SW damage, I then let SW drop, flashed blinding light and the dmg DID go up, BUT, as soon as BL fell off, so did the damage, so it's clear that the SW dmg is now fully dynamic to our active buffs.
May have not needed to be said, but I wanted to make it clear that snapshotting is completely dead.
Thats correct snapshot is dead ;). I am stating that if prior to this patch if you used snapshots without abusing with gearswap, you will receive an overall buff after the patch is live.
Snapshots dead, damage was buffed to compensate, we now have more free skill slots [for me probably only one mebbe more will have to see how it plays out]. Reflect damage should be less of a bitch if they don't start in reflect mode. Overall we got a buff.
While the loss of snapshotting may be a net negative result, it will really free up build options. You won't be forced to run with blinding flash or the heal anymore (though still a quite good skills)
Just remove temporary buffs from your skill repertoire like blind and stop using gearswap -> you can use Serenity or SSS in a TR build and still deal the same damage (if not more thanks to buffed TR itself). Only people seeing great decrease from this are those abusing the snapshot mechanic with really high attack speed via gear swap.
I think this needs clarification so I'll assist:
If you gear swapped to abuse snapshot you are fucked.
If you used abilities to abuse snapshot you got a buff.
(Just don't want someone to take your info out of context)
I honestly did not think they would fix the problem this way and remove the snapshot concept. What I would have preferred them to do is to prevent any gear swapping aside from weapons. (That gear has to be 'locked' by the player or you literally can't use abilities, exception being weapons). Removing snapshot as a concept simply dumbs the game down. The gear swap was the issue not the intricacy of snapshotting.
At least I did not steer any of you in the wrong direction and I made it very clear that I do not advocate gear swapping.
After the contest results are posted, I will update the main post guide accordingly. This update will largely involve removing snapshot information and adding things like Blazing light.
We still really did not get nerfed at all and I would say overall it is a buff even with snapshot removal.
Spec got a few buffs, nothing changes about how you play it in 1.0.7.
Rush on.
Looking at those "notes" I'm not sure if it'll be a buff actually, as they want to get rid of snapshotting. And with them buffing SW slightly, I'm fairly sure they'll want to get rid of it completely and not just the gear swapping.
Where was the blue post talking about getting rid of snapshotting.
I dont understand how people can say it would be a nerf to all monks to remove the snapshot effect... it wouldn't affect anyone else than those who (ab-)used that mechanic.
Now if blizzard made a broad nerf to the monk to compensate for having the snapshot effect. THAT would indeed be a nerf for everyone.
I think that at this point most monks use spells like blinding flash to buff their damage before using sweeping winds. This adds a big portion of one's damage. This requires no gear swapping, and it is hardly abuse to understand game mechanics and adapt to them.
Agree, and this is well said and one of the better arguments here.
The only thing I think should be killed is gear swapping. It never has settled well with me. Magic Find swapping is stupid and so is this. It moves beyond understanding and into the realm of being tedious as fuck.
Gear swapping should simply not exist in this game, however that is merely an opinion.
Unfortunately they have made it evident that their current stance is that they will tolerate it as its been in the game so long as evidenced by their response to Magic Find gear swapping. The 'snapshot' concept as well has been around for quite a bit and may follow suit considering it does add a sense of complexity to the game even if gear swapping didn't exist.
Odds are they will go with the one posted below mine due to quantity/volume. However I feel mine is geared more towards quality being to the point, and unique, hopefully note is taken about that. But we will see, it was fun to make either way and had to be made based on the positive feedback here.
New picture for the guide's title. I'll likely be replacing this original post with my contest submission after the editing and additional information is complete.
You can read the new guide as it is edited in the contest thread, but as it is a contest thread for submission only...

PS: Thanks for the answer on amulet pricing
I was gauging pricing on amulets, how much was yours for reference?
