To put it in perspective on how uch this will cost. There isn't a 2hander up for 70 million within 100 damage of yours. You are looking to spend at least 70 million on the weapon alone and wait about a week or more to hope one that good is even on the AH. Although I have not seen one above 1600 dps since the RMAH came out.
I have all barb bis legendaries (stormshield, lantern, helm of comman, ears) + other good items that reduce dmg and a3 is still not easy
I am at 10k armor, 50k hp, 1100 resist to all and 13500 dps, with 900 life on hit. Yet champ packs always end up widdling me down. I really need more block percentage, but Justice Lantern and Helm of Command are just to expensive right now. Yet the best place to make the money you need for it is farming Act III.
I have come to realize it's pretty much impossible to get into Act IV as a Barb without at least a Helm of command or Justice Lantern.
The game is much easier on a Barb then my WD, who has finished. However the gear wall for Barbs is WAY higher. I sold all my WD's gear, which a lot of it was BIS. Yet I can't even afford to fully gear out my Barb.
You're right, there is a power for money thing going here, and it will effect PvP, but not the way you think. The people who earn their gear are going to be extremely good at using their character from having to have farmed act 3/4 inferno for hours upon hours. On the other hand, you can ding to level 60, spend $100 and get a badass character, but you'll get DESTROYED in PvP because PvP is going to have a matchmaking system similar to Starcraft 2. This means the people who are legitimately badass and good at playing their character will have a massive advantage from those who just bought it and jumped right in.
Luckily the only thing meaningful in PvP is the lulz.
On a more serious note. At its very current state, the RMAH is utterly useless. It's filled with people that reek of greed, and think they can sell sub-par items for $20+. That's not saying people won't buy them.
But as said by others, even if Blizzard didn't make the RMAH. There would be plenty of third party websites where someone could buy items. If there's a will, there's a way.
Yes there would be third part sites. However you are over-estimating their usage. Diablo 3 has been purchased by almost 9 million people. The largest third party item trading website in the entire world for Diablo, has only 600,000 registered members. That is 600,000 since the sites creation. A majority of those probably have not visited the site in years. So although it would indeed go on, it isn't openly presented to 9 million people as an alternative to actually playing the game.
Not to mention, a majority of business that goes on, on those third part sites. Is for in game gold. Only a small percentage of transactions are for real money, or virtually representation of real money.
The amount of Blizzard apologists in this thread is frightening. Diablo 3 has been a broken, bugged out disaster so far. With loads of problems, exploits and issues. It's a fucking fun game, but lets not cover our eyes and ears here please.
I think buy to win is stupid. I think it's a dumb model. People here say lots of games do it. Show me 5 successful, popular, well reviewed games that have a buy to win model. Nobody cares if some F2P failed Korean game virtually nobody plays uses the model.
Here is my concern with the RMAH. Nobody is going to be putting good items up on the normal auction house anymore. Why make 10 million gold, when you can make $250. Then in turn, spend some of the real money you made on an item you want, and or never put it back into the economy.
Another problem, is items that are going to be selling for gold. Will be selling for 10 times their normal value. Why? because gold is so cheap to buy, you will have tons of people with astronomical amounts of gold. So the items that you can buy for in-game currency, will have a super inflated price.
Now. That being said. I don't think Diablo is a "buy to win" game. However what the RMAH can do, is ruin the experience for others. Diablo 3 is about trading items, for other items or currency. That is THE ENTIRE POINT of the game. Nobody gets perfect roll gear by it dropping for them. The odds of it happening make it virtually impossible. You will have to use the auction house or trading in some way, to progress in the game. As I stated above, my concern is the best items will no longer be up for trade. They will simply be up for real money. It severely limits those who don't want to spend tons of money to easily progress.
What has me most concerned isn't this. My biggest problem is the entire ecosystem Blizzard is building. We all know Titan is their next MMO. It's been in development more then half a decade. Do you really think they designed and implemented all these systems for one game, in Diablo 3? No. It has me worried their next MMO, where buying power is a MAJOR problem, will also be buy to win. Your shield is garbage. Get a better shield with at least 23 percent chance to block, then an aditional +8 or +9 percent chance to block as an extra stat. Even if the shield is blue. Try and get VIT or All resistance on the shield if you can.
The block will make a huge difference. You are at 18 percent now, with even a blue shield with +9 and 23 percent, you will be over 30 percent chance to block. Meaning a hell of a lot less damage.
Block isn't a HUGE deal, the thing you need as a barb is life on hit, 50k ish health, and 800+ all resis and you will be fine.
Block is a big deal. Which is why most of Barbs BIS gear has + percent to block on it. The more you block, the less damage you take. If you have 40 percent chance to block an attack, and are getting beat on by 15 mobs in Act III, you are saving yourself hundreds of thousands of damage.

I love how everyone jumped on the OP to tell him how weak and broken WDs are.... when the OP has made tutorial videos of himself killing every possible inferno boss, and posted them to this very forum.
Huh? Is this suddenly a thread about if the WD is viable? I've killed all of the bosses as well and I'll tell you that the WD is the weakest range class (I have 0 experience with melee so I won't speak there). Everyone is entitled to their opinions, please don't pretend like yours is better than everyone who has a negative opinion of the class.

Not sure why someone else having an opinion is such a threat to you, though... even though I didn't even express an opinion. I just think it's funny that people jumped on this dude with a tone that made me think he was a noob until i checked him out, only to find out... he's been busy making tutorials for the last two weeks.
Unfortunately many people feel the same way. They claim the class is broken or can't compete in damage with other classes, but it's been proven time and time again that the class IS viable in Inferno and CAN keep up with others. The thinking is 'I can't succeed with this class so it must be the class' when in actuality it's the player. If others can do just fine with the WD, all that's left is the player.
I just finished Act 3 in Inferno using the good old Zombie Bears build without that much of an issue. Yeah it's hard as hell and had to skip a couple champion packs because of the ability combo, but that happens to every class. The only legit complaint is that dogs and garg are under-powered. I'm ok having to recast them every now and again, but on every pull in Inferno regardless of the mob you are fighting is too much.

Mathematically, we can not keep up with any other classes damage except a Monk. Yet we are ranged damage dealers. We have little to no defensive abilities. We have no mobility. Our highest damage abilities require melee range. We are the only ranged class with CC's on cooldown. Most of our abilities are worthless. The fact that you even say "good old Zombie Bears build", is a major concern.
Also, you are talking about progressing. This game is easy to progress. Progressions isn't the problem. The problem is farming for items and being viable end-game. Getting to act IV is a joke for all classes. It is what happens after you are there that is the major problem.
Witch Doctors really are not that powerful compared to other ranged classes. Can you progress? Sure, but slower then others. There is also a wall you will get to, that does not exist for other classes. Even a fully geared Witch Doctor will kill enemies slower then a half geared Wizard of Demon Hunter.
Moonender, who is the best geared Witch Doctor currently. Gets out-run on Siegebreaker runs by his Demon Hunter friend, who only has 150k DPS with Sharpshooter.

* We have no piercing abilities that are viable, without causing Mana problems. Dire Bats, our "best" one, next to Zombie Bears, runs us dry in 3 seconds, without using 3 minute cooldowns. Yet Demon Hunters can spam nethertencicals, which is stronger, and Wizards can use Shock Pulse with piercing Orb, which is the same damn ability, but costs them no Arcane Power.
* Our CC is great, but it's on huge cooldowns. There is always going to be that time in-between cooldowns where you are left out to dry. This does NOT exist for any other ranged class.
* We have the least DPS of any ranged class. Demon Hunters are obviously broken. Wizards do significantly more DPS, and can deliver this DPS to a group, while at range, at the cost of little Arcane Power. Witch Doctors, are forced to stand in melee, with four abilities on cooldown to deliver this type of damage. Even that, in high-end gear, only works 20 seconds every 3 minutes.
This has forced all Witch Doctors into Poison Dart builds. Making us stack Attack Speed, INT, CRit and crit damage. This isn't what the class was designed for. I doubt you will find any high-end Witch Doctor that doesn't use Poison Dart spam most of the time. Witch Doctor was billed as a Necro type class. With pets, and all sorts of cool things.
Currently, Witch Doctors play like really really shitty Demon Hunters. We shoot, we run for our lives, but we don't three hit everything like they do.
Take this challenge. Read about Wizards, and watch a few streams. Level one up. Take all your Witch Doctor gear and put it on your Wizard. Even if it's not exactly what they are using anymore (they are now stacking INT VIT and ressists). I garuentee you the game will instantly become easy. I did this. Got one to 60, then stepped into Inferno. In one night I finished Act I-III, only dying on Belial and broken packs like shielding Tongue lasers. Outside of that, the game become so easy compared to my Witch Doctor.
A lot of Witch Doctors like to lie about their skills. Here are some facts.
* Kiting is easy on trash mobs, not so easy on Elite packs. Even the best equiped Witch Doctors have issues kiting. This is do to the nature of the class. Our cc abilities have big cooldowns, while no other ranged class has any cooldowns on theirs.
* Past Act I, even if you have 100k dps unbuffed, you will die a lot. I mean, A LOT to champ packs. The best equiped Witch Doctor in the game, can barely farm Siege breaker 5 stacks without Tyreal.
* Most of the time, you are going to be stuck with 2 CC abilities, in later acts in Inferno. This is because you give up to much to progress with a hotbar filled with GOTD, Hex, Wall, Confusion. The most popular are GOTD, Wall and Hex. Hex is great when facing one mob, it's not so great when facing more then one. Wall is fantastic, but it's on the longest CC cooldown of any class in the entire game. GOTD will be your go to kiting ability.
Currently. Witch Doctors are the hardest class in the game to kite with. All our CC goes on cooldown, you can't spam blizzard, or caltrops. You will need to make liberal use of Spirit walk. All that said, you will die, a lot. Everyone does in Inferno, especially Witch Doctors.

Decided to give it a shot with a POS 2h, 900 dps. Clearing Act III easily.
