The 30M number includes diablo vanilla, reaper of souls, and combo packs. It also includes the console versions.
You will need to assume that the average sale price is actually closer to $40. You will then need to assume that at least 25% of all copies are sold NOT by blizzard (so -25% revenue).
30M * $40 = $1.2B - 25% = $900M.
Thing is - that number above is still brutally high and in reality you should assume they brought in closer to $450-500M.
If they can release 2-3 new classes a year i would be a happy bunny.
At the end of the day it would all boil down to price, i am happy to support them as long as they don't take the piss, if i see the necro priced at £29.99 then i am out. 15-20 is what i would find reasonable.
10 for a new class. 15 pushes it but 20 is out of the question.
Agreed, the reason we have to pay in general though is just one company called: Activision
Oh so developers are free? Blizzard is spending at least $3-5M a year (if 30 to 50 people) just in development (dev, qa, ba, pm, cm, etc) salaries for Diablo 3. That doesn't include tech support, marketing, taxes, server costs, etc
I believe based on the rename of the Ultimate Evil Edition to Battlechest - that we are going to see the launch of Diablo 3 F2P. They will sell content packs in the store, and the battle chest will contain all current content.
No, it doesn't sound good at all. A "Vitality" class would be incredibly broken, because it would get (by game design) tankiness and damage output by stacking one stat.
I think a pirate would be a great follower. and if guns and a peg leg are are to cheesy, then dirty him up a little give him two rusty knives. and call him a bandit or something..... id LOVE to see more class ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
I agree that the game could use a "melee DPS" follower at some point in the future. But just not a pirate.
A vit class could be balanced by making it be .5% per vit and .5% per other stat. This could actually less to an interesting Jack of all trades dynamic.
The devs specifically said that they don't want the friends list or clan exemptions because that will still shorten the life of the game.
When Joe's friend gives him a top 1% sword... approximately 99% of his sword drops will either be the same or worse. If that sword statistically takes 200 hours to find and you gave it to him at hour zero... You just doomed him to nerd rage and bitch about all his sword drops being trash for hundreds of hours.
I've seen a similar issue with android. You click into the text box and the cursor appears. You start to type and it then disappears. It will sometimes take 10 or more tries to work correctly.
I played RoS on the Ps4 at blizzcon, and it was frikkin gorgeous, and actually one of the biggest reasons I bought a ps4, even though PC will always be my main
I have a PS4 and I'm planning on buying Reaper of Souls for it.... But I finally broke down and bought the ps3 version (I got it for $15) because I don't think we'll see the ps4 version until May - September.

What if this whole Diablo 1 event is actually a major troll akin to PT on PS4?
What if they patch in a D4 or D3X2 easter egg (to avoid dataminers) at launch?
That 2Bill number is all sorts of wrong.

I'll be honest -- if they start releasing like 1 class per quarter @ 19.99 -- I'll probably buy them.
But they need to release something the size of an act at least once per year. (Hopefully for free).
None of the above.

Right now I hate how useless off class stats are.
