Diablo III is the third installment of a series which was created by a company that does not exist anymore.
Diablo III is based off Diablo II, and Diablo, which means it is not based off any other intellectual property or source.

Bill Gates only directly influenced Microsoft. Everything else, is just an indirect action, relying on many other people. So, Bill Gates indirectly contributed to Diablo III. Yea, sure. But did he directly do anything, NO.
Blizzard North created the series, and is the primary reference that Blizzard is using in creating Diablo III. Therefor, Blizzard is using work and ideas from Blizzard North to create Diablo III.
You can't write a research paper and not cite the authors of quotes you use!
As an example, I am sure that there will be many things in Diablo III that were in Diablo II, like item names and spells, which were created for Diablo/II by Blizzard North. I say, credit worthy.
The books should of had the Blizzard North logo in my opinion...
LinkX, you seem to not understand direct and indirect connection. Atari, Bill Gates, Thomas Edison, and Gutenburg all affected many things directly. However, the argument that Bill Gates (or any of the others) directly influenced Blizzard North's Diablo or Diablo II, is far fetched.
All right, you guys need to lay off this whole Roman Empire business. It is an invalid argument to this situation because you are comparing indirect, to direct influences.
Indirectly, the Roman empire influenced our lives today. Sure, this is true, but they do not have any direct affect to our current lives.
Similarly, you can point out that you are alive directly because of your parents. However, because of a decision to keep a child back in 20,000 BC, instead of sacrificing it to the gods, you indirectly owe your existence to this decision. (This is a theoretical situation to show a point)
As you can see, time effects direct and indirect influences.
As for Blizzard North, they are a direct influence for Diablo III, even if they did not work on the game. They made the first 2 games, and presumably, help start the third, and might have even finished it before they scrapped it.
Blizzard North should be credited because they started the franchise, and made every single Diablo game to date. Also, Blizzard is only going off Blizzard North's Diablo and Diablo II to make Diablo III, making Blizzard North a direct and primary influence.
Please, no more Roman Empire garbage. Besides, the Romans stole everything from the Greeks...
Last year, it was suprising that there even was an "announcement of the announcement". Expect nothing, until Blizzard.com gets a teaser page around June 23.
I really want it to be 2D with insane detail! But, yea, it is 3D.
3D wont be bad if:
-It doesn't slow or change the gameplay (random levels in 3D is a little tricky...)
-Fixed Classic Style Isometric Camera
-High Quality Detail with little to zero pixilation/fuzz. (I expect Diablo III to look insane!)

And LinkX, don't quote yourself...

-It doesn't mean anything. Some people who got hired to work on Warcraft III, actually never touched the game. They worked on WoW.
Team 3 may be Team Blizzard North...
Diablo 3 would be their third game...
D3 will be in 3D...
This BlizzCon, is the 3rd one...
