Sidearm CAN do AoE and is slightly more worth it with a faster weapon, but I highly prefer maniac with a slower one because it increases all damage, including Revenge and Charge.
I don't see how weapon speed would make a difference?
I'm assuming the axes themselves are based on your weapon damage, which would mean that with a slower weapon they won't proc as often but they will hit harder.
I'm playing with maniac at the moment, can't say i'm missing the axes, i'm mostly spamming revenge anyhow
Small update to my previous post, just killed diablo inferno.Did all the way up to him from and including rakanoth with a 4 man group (random players), where i could tank every champion pack comfortably, Izual was a bitch though.
Anyone know if maniac rune will increase the damage of your other abilities aswell?
Seeing as the increase shows up on your character screen i'd imagine it does.
Considering scrapping sidearm for maniac instead, seeing as most regular mobs gets revenged down anyhow.
Would be cool with some input from someone who's tested it though
Sold my stormshield, justice lantern, helm of command, string, basically all my legendaries to test this build.
I was getting wrecked in a3 with 40k hp, 43% block, 10kish armor, 1k+ ar (1200 phys, 1100 fire).
Now running with 112k hp, 10,5k armor, 800ar, 14k dps, 18%block. Feels like i'm doing alot better, i can stay alive for quite a while, and i can kill most champ packs.
Basically, i'd imagine both builds are about equally viable, once people start going for more vit i'd imagine prices on these items will even out on about the same as the block/allres items.
I can imagine this way of gearing is especially good for 2h barbs, seeing as the biggest reason for going very high allres is to lower hits enough to be blocked completely.
If you cant afford life on hit weapons look for weapons with sockets then drop the highest level amethyst you can into it.
As to how important LoH is, for melee it is very important. This game is brutal on melee and once you get into inferno you get raped non stop. Going into inferno with no life on hit is going to be rough.
I'm already in a3 inferno, and i'm able to do a3, it's just fkin boring since i have to skip alot of champion packs that are just plain impossible.
I've already changed my mind, bought a 1500 dps 2h and going to change some of my other gear and see if it helps
He buys gear for just under 1mill, he ends up at about 900-950 resist with shout, 9k armor, 40k ish hp, 25% ish block, 5k dps and NO life on hit or other hp regen, and he manages to do a 5 stack siegebreaker run with that gear, sure it's challenging, but it works, with your stats it should go alot smoother.
With your gear level, i'd say farm act 3, and hold out for an AWESOME weapon with life on hit and a socket.

Yeah, saw that guy, it did take him ages though, although, remember that this was before tyrael nerf, don't think he could do it now Pretty awesome job, but that was on US servers i'm pretty sure... the prices on EU are kinda crazy
Yeah, if i sell my stormshield i'd be sitting on around 20-25m i could use to buy a good 2h and some crit/ias gear... pretty tempting..
The optimal thing would ofcourse to get loh AND a socket on a high dps weapon... but that's going to cost an absolute fortune!
A good solution that's much more economical that many people ignore is LoH on rings and necklace, you can easily get a good weapon with just a socket, and make up for the "lost" life on hit by spending the left over gold on great rings/necklaces.
Yeah, thing is, i already have around 200 loh on my amulet, and a justice lantern + a pretty decent ring with allres, I think replacing either for more LoH will be pretty expensive
What i'm thinking is that if i get a weapon with only a socket, it'd need to have a pretty high attack speed on it.
But i'm just curious if my survivability will take a huge hit if i go for a weapon with say str/vit instead, i do get armor from both of those stats so, not sure how that would work out, and i'm abit reluctant to trying it out and wasting all my gold.
The rest of my stats are fairly decent, i'm on about 43% block and 1k allres with shout (1,1-1,2k physical), 10,5k armor and close to 40k hp.
The goal would be to make me able to farm abit in at least a3, maybe a4. My dmg at the moment is so low that i've been thinking about just getting a badass 2 hander and selling my stormshield
Hi! So i'm looking around for a new weapon, and i really want to get one with decent life on hit, however, at the moment the really great ones with LoH is kinda out of my price range.
So my question is: How nessecary(sp) is life on hit?
I'm contemplating just going for a 1100-1200 dps weapon without life on hit, but i'm afraid of gimping myself, my old weapon only had a socket open with a 300 loh gem and 1.37 atks per second.
Anyone playing successfully through inferno without loh? (1h/shield)
Also, if anyone has a good 1h for sale on EU, give me a shout

Either that or a new ring with more vit/%life and maybe less res (If you wanna get it cheaper).
