There are some good acid cloud builds for farming act 3 MP0. I like using darts + CC. Darts are low mana cost and have a HUGE ranged. I can dart really annoying demons from off the screen and never get hit. I think WD is a bit more gear dependent versus other classes. You need 30k dps or more and at least 50k health. But it all depends. Honestly, I think you should find something you ENJOY and just do that until you find enough items worth selling to buy some upgrades. What's the point if you're not having fun?
My monk (alt) is similar to yours in a lot of ways, but with twice as much health and about 2k life on hit. New rings and amulets can have a lot of life on hit these days (600+ amulet, 400+ per ring). Upgrade your vit gems to Star at least (my monk has crappy gems, but she's an alt), get new rings/ammy with life on hit and you'll probably feel better. Also it depends on what MP you're going for. My monk's DPS is only good enough for MP3 or 4 or so, but her survivability is good. Molten causes issues for me, arcane not as much, desecration is fine if I'm only in 1. Here's my monk's armory:
I've seen a similar build which uses a 2H weapon + spirit generation items, and focuses entirely on tempest rush. This one almost seems more viable for elites though, which is what it's all about right?
Attack speed is better for fast base weapons. Honestly 1h daggers (not ceremonial knives) are the best for attack speed since they are 1.5 base speed. For 2H you want crit and crit damage. I've been using a dagger + thing of the deep with lots of attack speed and the dps is perfectly fine for me, but if you want to see huge numbers it's not right for you. Also, if you go the fast attack speed route it's good to get chance on hit to CC stuff (fear on helm, blind on ammy, stun on gloves) and it's a lot cheaper than resist all gear. I'm running with flaming dart, fire locusts, grasp of the dead (the extra slow one), soul harvest/spirit walk, and leeching beast zombie dogs. I use Pierce the Veil since the mana drain with my build is practically zero, gruesome feast for more DPS (and because my pickup radius is 45 yards) and grave injustice for more grasps, faster dog respawn, more spirit walk, and more 5 stack soul harvests (and also, with a 45 yard pickup radius it's pretty fun).
WD is a versatile character, I've been playing mine since beta and release, and nothing compares for fun. I'm squishy, and die really easily, especially above MP6, but mobs don't really hit me all that much, and with enough LOH and life steal it's easy to get back the health I lose.
Honestly I think just play around with some stuff, see what you enjoy. What's the point if you're not having fun? Here's my profile:
Wow, and I thought I was the only one who loves this game! We see so much whining and crying and complaining that sometimes it's hard to remember that some of us ACTUALLY love the game. Awesome thread, I don't feel like I'm the only one still in love
I play because it's my favorite game ever, quite honestly. I couldn't be happier with how Diablo 3 turned out. Some people don't like the focus on the Action part of Action-RPG, rather than focusing on the RPG part (and I fully understand these complaints), but for me it's perfect. I really, really enjoyed Diablo 2 back when I was 13 or 14 years old, and I really, really enjoy Diablo 3 at 27 years old. For me it's about the item hunt, the casual OR hardcore level of play (made better with Monster Power) and just murdering demons I play while I'm working doing DSL technical support, and I play when I get off work (and there's nothing to watch on TV). I realize I might be in the minority, but I've been playing Witch Doctor since may 15th and loved every minute of it!
No. Nail on the head.
right?! I've crafted 3 and 2 of them had THORNS.

Also you might want to consider the Resolve passive. It's worked well for me.

I doubt there are many people using a similar build, but I really enjoy it
