I have a really hard time believing that Blizzard can't do something about this...
My 2 coppers: As soon as you die the first time, change your build to something that can beat whatever combo your having to deal with. Every elite can be beat, you just have to know how to counter the ability they are using against you. Jailer? Make sure you have Teleport. That sort of thing.
For Fast Teleporting Firechains (thread title), what I've honestly found to be the best thing is pop Diamond Skin (Crystal Shell) and tank them while blowing every ounce of your AP on burst DPS. Just before DS wears out, you hit Mirror Image, and Teleport (Wormhole) outta there, and run for your life until DS is off cooldown. Rinse & repeat until dead.
IDK, if you're going to run Illusionist, why not capitalize on it by running both Teleport and Mirror Image? Especially with fracture rune, you could basically keep images up full time.
Look, I'm an engineer, and I do a boatload of statistical data analysis for a living. -And after reading through that list of "interesting stats" they posted up, it's pretty obvious they have no intention of providing the community any REAL statistics that can be interpreted towards any real relevant conclusions.
1.9% of characters have unlocked Inferno difficulty. OK, thats fine, how about accounts? You could extrapolate something from them citing 3 characters on average per account, but that's really making a lot of assumptions that put the conclusions in doubt, global warming style.
The most common level 60 build in the game is only used by 0.7% of level 60 characters of that class (not including Passive diversity) OK, so all sorts of people use all sorts of builds. Real shocker, considering you are talking about 6 spell slots with 25 different spells available. How about telling us what individual spells are most popular for players that have unlocked Inferno?
TLDR: All I am saying is the stuff they posted is bullshit, and the fact that they are saying the most popular wizard rune is mostly useless is further evidence of that. Don't even waste your time with that garbage.
What about when you get vortexed and hit for more than your Max hp?
Or mortar/Reflect damage, if u leave blizz/hydra up and kite, you will just kill yourself unless u have semi-decent HP regen.
Diamond skin is my solution to both of that. Illusionist procs above DS, so If i see myself flying to a pack of rares due to a vortex I press DS and spam Teleport until i'm out, sometimes Diamond skin is not Up, then It's just damn luck. Sometimes I can teleport out even without diamond skin because i got hit by something in the way or the other mobs were just slower to hit me than the first.
Regarding reflect damage, hydra damage takes a bit to ramp up and I'm only taking damage when I'm doing damage, so if i have to do damage i wait for DS to be out of CD and burn them as much as i can while it's up, If i'm about to die (less than 40% of my health) I pop the hydra again far away from the rares and keep running around until I regen some health.
Even tough these are probably the hardest mob it's an improvement over fast mobs and vortex mobs when you don't have ilussionist and teleport.
Diamond Skin and Wave of Force (Impactful Wave rune) is also great for this, if you're not big into teleport.
Illusionist... interesting. Think I'll try it. I think I'll try using Mirror Image too, just to capitalize on Illusionist.
You find Shock Pulse Orbs and Hydra to be enough offense?? I like Shock pulse orbs when I'm out of AP, and I like Venom Hydra just because it's badass, But I've found generally speaking that I need a big damage nuke as well like Disintegrate or Arcane Orbs to keep my DPS up.
well this is very frustrating to me. The people that abused FA or CM before it was nerfed are now geared and currently able to survive/farm act 3/4 inferno, while the people who didn't can barely make it through act 2. Now these abusers control the economy etc.
Meh, there's more than one way to skin a cat, friend.
As for Venom Hydra - it's terribly OP against slow targets so I'm 100% sure Blizz will remove the venom pools stacking.
Bingo. If they do anything, it'll be the venom pool stacking. Without that, Venom Hydra is fine. It's when a critter is standing in a stack of pools when they die super quick....
Of course with that logic, they shouldn't allow stacking of desecration/mortars/etc from enemy monsters, hmmmm...
Rerolled from a Barb myself. 55 right now in Act 2 playing solo because I'm a bit paranoid about joining public games. This is what I run around with http://us.battle.net...XOjS!aXU!ZbabaZ
Ooo, Disintegrate with Temporal Flux! I gotta try that, I never realized disintegrate did arcane damage. I wonder if the slow stacks with Blizzard?
I'm currently level 55 on the 2nd Act of Hell and I find it fun this class actually takes a little finesse to play well. I can take out multiple champ groups without the use for Force Armor. In Nightmare I went for dmg and used Magic Weapon with a 1h / shield combo which worked really well. The AH is your friend and imo makes the game a bit too easy vs finding people trade with.
Also that nightmare build if you get a beefy 2h I'd swap magic weapon with blizzard and reduced AP or CD whichever you have unlocked and it makes large packs cake combined with Venom Hydra. I use the Templar as well his charge / stun skills works wonders when he charges packs its as good as frost nova and his regen paired with Galvenizing Ward makes single 2k 3k hits regen rather quickly if there are no health globes up.
Replace Arcane Orb with Arcane Torrent, and that nightmare build is exactly what I am using as well.
I think my computer is too slow to use Teleport very well, quite honestly. It's a shame, I know how good it could be if it didn't make my computer lag out so bad when I use it.
I'm a bit ahead of you, just finished nightmare. It really is all about preference. I've found several different builds that work well. My latest little gem is Arcane Torrent.
Generally speaking though, I've found the hardest thing about playing a wizard is staying alive. It's the defensive skills (and mastery of them) that makes or breaks your build, IMO.
Just comes and goes man... I don't know what it is. Last night in a 4 man group I didn't get a single rare. Two days ago playing solo for a few hours during lunchtime, and I got two legendaries. All about RNG I guess. I stacked up a big MF gear set once, and really didn't notice any difference in drop rate...

Furthermore, IDK how you can call this a "Pure Arcane Build" when you have Meteor as your primary attack...

I wrote up a little something the other day with my thoughts on all the different spells. Feel free to read over it, it might help you some:
