Thanks for the overview Xariov!!
I just got off the beta just then and my ping was a steady 210ms. Really depends on the time on day.
I am aware that Telstra said no to hosting servers and thats why i was a tad worried. But like you said, most of the lag issues is hardly noticable unless the server is packed, which will hopefully be better on release!!
Thanks everyone for the input!
ahhhhh so many memories watching those old cinematics between acts favourite was the clip at the start of act 5 when Baal blows up the guard with his magic haha
300+ for Aussies? i have about 250-350 and i live in Holland , it's still playable yet i sometimes "teleport back" so to say... can get annoying at crowded places.
yeah i get the same, especially when I get knocked back from a champion, highly noticeable. And yes, your ping seems the same as what we get on a good day when the other side of the world is asleep
Gentleman, I can provide both perspectives being an Aussie who's recently moved to the US.
In the US I am getting about 120-140ms on a good day, and probably 200ms on a bad day. I put this solely down to the Beta, they'll be running a very small amount of servers.
In Aus, certainly 300+ms right now is to be expected in the Beta. As for SC2 pings, those servers are in Singapore. Diablo does not have a SEA/ANZ region.
Once Live hits, I totally expect all pings we're currently experiencing to be cut in half.
Besides, it's a beta, Blizz wants the servers stressed to see what the limitations are. I wouldn't assume the same situation will exist on May 15th
This did cross my mind, i do understand its a beta and that the servers are not fully functional to the capacity they will be running at release. Hopefully you are correct and when 5million people connect at once, it should be able to handle everyone regardless of which part of the world they from
G'day all, i got into the diablo 3 beta a couple of weeks ago and have played through all the characters and maxed them out. I just wanted to ask a general question regarding the latency you experience during gameplay (not sure if this has already been discussed or anything, i apologize if it has already <3)
When playing the beta, what latency do you experience and does it effect your gameplay?
I play from Adelaide, SA and my lowest ping has been 260ish, Of course this has been in the afternoon evening when the other side of the world is asleep
If i play in the morning or too late at night, i experience ping at 350+, which is almost unplayable.
I ordered my CE ages ago (Adelaide, Australia) i checked the EB again not too long ago and said they were completely over whelmed with the number of purchases on the CE.
Another question i was going to ask is that i notice when i play in the morning when i wake up, the lag is terrible. Not just terrible, but unplayable. And this is just in the beta. I understand that we connect to American servers but will this lag be too much for us? When i play at night it is fine (~200ms) but when realized there is going to be alot more players.
Should i panic?
Reason: i have played around with the skill calculator for quite some time, and just seem to enjoy this build the best. The use of the primary 'way of the hundred fists' is my favourite skill in the game, this is why this is my primary. Along with dashing strike to jump to enemies, they will work well with one another. The rest is to help out the party, Breath of heaven and mantra of retribution should do nicely. As i havent played the beta, the other skills are just skills that sound appealing to me, and would veyr much like to try.
Summary: Mainly build for fun, and what skills really appeal to me. Mostly likely subject to change within game.
Good Luck to all! There are some awesome builds on here.

Welcome!
You ping shouldnt be too much different from the rest of Australia. 200-300ms.

I have heard this statement before, and hopefully it wont effect us too much.
