So, longer story shorter, I found out that Amazon NEVER SENT THE BOOK. So now it's finally on it's way here, one day shipping, due to arrive tomorrow. The reason I didn't get it on the 19th, was because Amazon never sent it out for delivery. Their reason? "Oh, someone must have forgotten." Great. Meanwhile, I ordered the new alton brown book on the 17th and it got here already. Kinda sad that I pre-ordered it months ago, paid extra for two day shipping, and people in other countries still got it before me, despite me only being two states from the publisher.
Long story short, they confirmed I ordered it two-day, they confirmed that they shipped it ground instead, then asked me "What do you want me to do? You want a five dollar promo coupon for amazon?". Of course I told them no. Don't need any more of those. After that, they said "We can ship one out with one-day delivery and you'll get it on the 21st" "No, I'd rather not, since I convinced UPS to move delivery up to tomorrow", finally, they agreed to give me a shipping refund and a partial refund on the book, while not canceling the order, so we'll see how it goes. Yeah, sometimes you get bad reps, and it's pretty annoying that Amazon charged for two-day shipping and then proceeded to send it ground. Makes you wonder if they do it often and people just don't catch it.
Further research has led to me discovering that, despite me PAYING for two day shipping, Amazon shipped it ground, which means I may have to wait up to another WEEK because of this. The rep's response to me questioning this was to say "Amazon won't consider it late until the 21st and even then, we do not consider it our issue." So. Not amused.
so I called UPS only to be told now that it won't be delivered today and possibly not tomorrow. Really? So I wait an extra week and now have to wait another extra week. Seems like no one is doing things properly around this book. Mind you, I took the day off to wait for my package.

Just wanted to chime in with... The diablo 3 team, specifically Bashiok, stated that Inferno WILL be solo'able, just difficult to solo without the best gear.
They post here because it's a diablo fansite. People posted here before Diablo 3 was even released, to complain about diablo 2. People want to vent, and people want to know why they don't have what they paid for. They're AWARE they don't have the item. It's easy enough to know that when it's not sitting on your table in front of you. They want to know who screwed up and made it happen. Hence why they're angry, because they're not being told why it was screwed up, and I think most of them expect to be given at least more than a half-hearted "oops, we messed up" e-mail or twitter, and to actually know WHY things got screwed up.. and what I.E. intends to do to MAKE UP for it, because they breached the pre-order contract, not the people who pre-purchased it, therefore the vast majority -are- going to feel that they should get something to -make up- for I.E.'s mistake... and where else are they going to vent/complain? Diablofans, because it's not even all too common knowledge for most people that I.E. is the reason it's not in their hands. It's human nature to vent when something frustrates us, because it lets us put it into logic and express what we're thinking and feeling. If you vent to Amazon, you're told "Sorry, I don't know what's going on. Nothing we can do." Your next natural step will be a diablo fansite to see what is going on. Half the people that are posting here to vent are doing it because A: They hope the right people will see it, and B: Because they want to vent with like-minded people. A more constructive way to handle it, if you really wanted to divert their complaints, would be to give them IE's Twitter and Facebook, and let them rage on them.
There. Isn't that a lot easier than just telling a bunch of diablo fans that they can't rage, complain, or vent about the failure to launch the book of cain, right after blizzard recently told us that they were pushing back the december release of diablo 3, on a diablo fan forum?

It's just a smaller timeframe, but nevermind that, the point was that it was failure to deliver a product. You could very easily substitute it with any number of other things, for instance, you place a reservation at a resturant, then get there on time to find out that, without any notice, they gave your table to someone else who walked in, or that you bought an ipod off amazon, then on the day of delivery, they tell you that they ran out, but if you walk to the store in california, you can buy one. Like I said. Literalism is a poor argument.

Gonna ignore the fact that I've pointed out twice that most food places order their proteins and vegetables, to point out that, YES, YOU FINALLY GOT IT, If You go to a store and they DON'T HAVE THE ITEMS, THEY KNOW IT BEFORE THEY OPEN. This book was set to release on the 13th. It should have been IN THE STORE BY THE 10TH. You think all the frozen patties burger king cooks for you are delivered on the very day you chow down on it? No. They're from last week's delivery. Even someplace with has high of a check average as the restaurant I work at gets most of their steaks a week in advance.... So we know we have enough. I made that example because I assumed it would be a pretty easy example to understand. Unfortunately, you seem to be taking it too literally, and assuming "That would never happen at a burger king!", to which I can only reply by saying "So, you're saying that Burger King has higher quality logistics and inventory workers than Amazon and IE?"
Also, you state that we don't know what the issue that came up was ...correct.. We don't... great communication on their parts there.
Would you be this calm and complacent about other things, say, you get to the window at burger king and they tell you that you they don't know what's going on with your hamburger, but since you already paid, if you just wait a day or two, you'll be able to find out when you'll get it? Sure, it's "just a book", but it wasn't "just a book" to the guy who wrote it, and honestly, some of the most historical documents were books. Not saying this is the declaration of independence, but still don't see a point to downplaying it as "just a book". Unfortunately, the lack of release means my book-date with a very cute, and very enjoyable chick has been canceled... since we were planning to meet up at the coffee shop and read it/discuss it. Now we have to move it to tomorrow, and find a new book. Disappointing to a very large degree, when you work 12 hour shifts and only get two days off a week... if you're lucky.

I think the point that they are trying to make is that all of this is happening, right now, TODAY - the day of its release.
If you are there, at that moment, your juicy Whopper is supposed to be delivered to your hot chubby hands and the poorly paid window attendant tells you:
- to wait because they don't have Whoppers
- BUT then someone from the back yells that they do have Whoppers
- then someone from the register says they don't have Whoppers, but they are on their way
- And a satisfied customer is walking out the front door with A JUICY WHOPPER in their hands.....
You might get a little pissy. They sell Whoppers at the drive thru window. They told you they will sell you one today. You get to the drive thru, TODAY, and there are no Whoppers. Sad day, wouldn't you agree?

There's absolutely no communication beyond "Hey, we're delaying how long until you get it, even though you paid to have it on release. No idea why, but it's happening." I.e. Knew there was an issue for a while now, they didn't update until people started to complain, and still hasn't told amazon a thing, apparently. Do a quick search on "The legality of selling an item online that you do not physically own".
As far as my example not "Working", actually, Burger King does not butcher their cows. Most food companies order their base product. They purchase them from other companies, such as sysco, so in my example, which does work by the way, Sysco is I.e. and Burger King is Amazon. What you're basically saying is that Burger King shouldn't be faulted because they didn't make sure Sysco would have their hamburgers delivered on time for the store to open, and that Sysco isn't wrong for not shipping the items they were supposed to, and not telling Burger King anything about it, or helping them get the product. If not for the flood of twitter comments to I.E, we probably wouldn't of gotten half the updates we have. To put it bluntly, they saw that people were pissed, and offered a half-hearted attempt to appease them, by saying "oh, we messed up, but we're totally working on it... but we don't know when we'll be able to deliver what was supposed to be delivered. Alternatively, you can buy it from us at a higher cost and get it sooner."
Think about the situation a bit more here. It all comes down to a breach of contract caused by I.E. failing to ensure everything was prepared and ready to go. These books -should- have been shipped out four days before release, at the very least.

thus I dont think amazon wanted to start doing more date switches, but now that we have confirmation from IE, im sure amazon will be getting an update on their site.

Actually, they weren't really working on the issue until a lot, and I mean a lot, of complaints went out. Before the complaints really started piling up, they were actually going to not rush it before Christmas, and now they're going to work on trying to get it out. Without complaints, we probably wouldn't of gotten -any- information from them. Now we know that they're (Finally) working on it. Not to mention people -like- to vent. It's a human coping mechanism.
