People would try the race once then realize they are completely outclassed by the top .01% and not bother anymore.
that's why there are many different race formats and different tiers of prize pool. In POE, you can always just go for the minimum and earn points that way to receive prizes. they have a system where you could accumulate points base on how many races you've participated, and once you reach a certain thresholds you would receive prizes according to how much effort you've put in, and the reward is not even that shitty. you don't have to be the top 20 players in every single time in racing. of course, those 20 players deserve the best rewards because they're the best of the best.
and i'm not even proposing a permanent ladder league since many people would feel like there's a segregation going on. these are short races which anyone can participate. a lot of people just play it for fun and meet the minimum requirement for small prizes.
of course, all the reward items are pure cosmetic in poe. there's no ladder-only items either. everything given from the ladder prize pool you could also find them in game. they just look different, but the stats are exactly the same.
Also, the reason D3 is slower is because people have higher expectations for Blizzard. If it isnt completely bug free and 100% polished when it is released, people complain. Lots of people. It hurts their established reputation for their other games even. Dev's on PoE dont have to worry about that. They can push something out quickly and be like "whoops, that didnt work" and take it out. They dont have a reputation yet.
i call this one bs. when GGG release a new patch every week, some of the changes are really bad and the community immediately complains. the POE dev acts so much quicker when people report a game breaking bug. They fix dat shit on the same day or even within hours! blizzard acts so retardedly slow sometimes when it comes to fixing the game. you usually have to wait til the next day to see it get done. i remember back then there was this invulnerable archon mode which people reported on the bug forum months ago. it made people think did they even actively keep in touch with their community at all.

they have new contents out every week, new ladder season, new races, new pvp formats and leagues. POE put out new stuffs way quicker than blizzard ever did, with a very small budget compare to what blizzard has in its arsenal.
i don't expect much from d3 in terms of new content since it's using a different business model; however, the fact blizzard can't even implement a simple concept like ladders is mind blowing. a dev team with only 16 men can come up with more great ideas than a multi-billions dollars company does, wouldn't you think that's a little ridiculous?
can you imagine how many people would try a 2-3 hrs race in diablo 3? a little competition can make the game refreshing and it is what keeping people in the game. And d3 "brawling" is so bad compare to the POE's current pvp system. GGG is creating new leagues and more pvp formats/balances just for ppl who only want to pvp.
this video says it all. so i still standby my conclusion. it depends on your gears for which appropriate monster power you can farm on reasonable speed. it's not always lower mp is better. i think drawing from his data which higher mp you get more legendaries from trash mobs than elites, it may be a good idea just to skip the elites on mp10 once you get your initial 5 stacks.
If you have good gears (DPS + EHP), you should always farm on high monster power for loot if paragon lvl is not your concern. it also depends on what class and build you're playing as well. ww barb with good gears should farm at higher mp because it's easier to maintain wotb than at lower mp does, but other classes like wd or dh should not because of the fact a lot of their skills are tied to killing mobs, especially wd needs to kill mobs quickly for their passive to work.
AFAIK, the PvP system was going to have a ELO like system, so, you can play extremely badly but have a godly gear, and you will beat the hell out of a really good player with non-godly gear.
most good players have good gears anyway cuz they know how the system works to obtain those gears and put into the hours. the bad players that just rmah won't even come close to the good players without spending great deals of money, and we're talking like over $1000. besides, the best gears are not even on the rmah but rather on the gah. the cost is just going upward when you have to buy billions of gold.
has anyone here play magic: the gathering or other trading card games competitively? it's the exact same thing. you obviously can't win without the proper tools, but good players know how to get there on a budget.
The key there is all of the variables that are held constant. If you have 10% less magic find on MP1 than you do on MP6 and you go through twice as many monsters, you will find more legendaries on MP1, that's just math!
you forgot to account that higher mp white mobs also have extra chances to drop an additional item. this is a huge variable. even if you farm on mp1 4x faster than a farmer at mp10, the 100% bonus items add up quite a big margin for each monsters slain for the mp10 farmer. so it's not necessary true going faster = more chance to see legendaries. mp10 farmer get the more drops + 250% mf bonus which makes up the loss in speed.
i found alot of legendaries from white trashes in higher mp.
yesterday, moldran and other two top elites euro players were doing a competition - 12 hrs marathon finding legendary. Whoever finds the most legendaries within 12hrs wins and claims all the legendaries the other find. Diablo 3 hits 10k viewers on twitch which was surprisingly good for a 6 month old game.
If you were watching the streams for just a bit, moldran was farming on mp5 while the other two farm on mp10. Closing toward the hours, the monk invis won the competition with 45 legendaries found. Moldran came in behind with just one short - 44 legendaries. The monk was farming mp10 and going through the runs a lot slower than moldran did, yet he had found the most legendaries. The 3rd player, avoidlol, a wizard, only found 34 legendaries on mp10 within 12hrs.
Therefore, it is a myth that farming higher mp gives you more legendaries, but it is also wrong to say farming for legendaries at lower mp is better because you're going through more packs. If you can go through mp10 at a reasonable pace, then by all mean go for it cuz at least you see alot more rares and golds in the process comparing to lower mp.

i'm on the us server. right now radiant emerald is 21m on the AH. flawless square emerald is 5800, and tome is 720 gold. if you buy every materials going from flawless square to radiant stars, using the calculators, you would save only around 350k gold. *this is also without counting the jeweler's plan.
i'm certain at this point there's no profit to be made for crafting the gems yourself and trying to sell them on ah. after 15% cut, u lose money. so why go through all those clicking and process getting all the materials just to save 350k gold?

The percentage drop rate is lower but you get so many more rares per hour in act 1 that it negates the lower drop rate.
getting so many more rares doesn't mean crap when they're all junks. you only want the ilvl62-63 rares. anything below it is just garbage except for rings and ammys. that's why you want to farm a3 if you can.
mf does work. however, if you're focusing on mf too much while sacrificing survivability and dps, it's just not worth it.
