But it's gonna be major. Nothing like the much simpler ones that I've made. It would take a lot more preparation, and I'd need some stuff from staff (the Admins, really) to make it happen. It would need front page coverage if it were to be most successful, and it would not only include Diablo, but virtually the entire video game universe.
Here's the basic premise of the entire thing. You can suggest things and stuff, but I feel I must remind you that I probably wouldn't really care about your suggestions if they weren't REALLY good, and backed up with a solid reason.
If this goes through, after I discuss it with Sixen and get everything straightened out, here's how it will work. A new board would be set aside for it, because there would be a lot of threads, more than a couple of stickies, and the likes. I'll make a new thread, most likely here in Off Topic, asking who would like to participate. The more who do, the more it would be interesting (and the more work I'll be doing, hyuck hyuck). Every user will PM me three teams, each team consisting of two characters from ANY video game. It can be ANY character in ANY game. That includes NBA players because there was more than one NBA game, Stalin because he was in Red Alert, all that stuff. The user will also supply a name for his team. You guys will sign up in a thread, as I already mentioned, and let's say User 1 signed up before User 2, K? User 1 selects Diablo and Baal, and User 2 selects Diablo and Mephisto. User 2 will not be given Diablo because User 1 signed up before him in the thread I had posted. It's a first come first served thing.
On the board which would be created IF this idea passes through, and depending on how many users sign up, and consequently how many teams will be introduced, I will put a number of teams in groups to decide which goes against which (it would be random, I wouldn't choose them myself). A certain number of matches would be posted every day, and users will cast their votes via PM. This would ensure that users would not vote for a team over the other because their friend did so, or whatever, there are plenty of reasons. Users wouldn't say which teams are theirs, it would all be cloaked in a shroud of anonymity. It would more than likely be point based, with the winning team in a match getting 3 points, the losing 0, and if a tie occurs, both teams get 1 point, like the World Cup, y'know.
At the end, I will reveal which teams belonged to which user. I don't know if I'll be doing a losers bracket or anything, this is really still in the brainstorming phase.
So, what do you mean a team "wins"? In a physical fight? In a coolness contest? The best unexpected couple?
What exactly are we voting for?
This is the exact reason I did not reply. I didn't understand the point after reading the entire thing. It's a bit wordy and doesn't really give a clear and concise definition of what is going to actually happen.
As to whether I would do it or not: Yes, I think it would be really cool despite the fact that I'm a bit fuzzy on what "IT" is.

Uhh, I don't really know how to explain this, you guys should just get it . Like, a team of Diablo and Baal would win over the Tainted and Goatmen if you like the former more than you do the latter. I really don't know how to explain this.
So its a team tournament you choose the team give it a name and you go at each other? Lol. idk ignore me

Sounds chaotic with a lot of relying on people that you can't rely on, but if you could get it together it might be cool. Maybe you could take us through a mock tourny to show what you really mean? The way you worded it was a little rough. I don't get the any video game thing... and it's just voting?
You choose two characters from any game to make up your team. Depending on how cool, or strong, or whatever the fuck a user sets as their own criterion, a vote is made via PM. Team with most votes wins. Not rocket science, people.
Looks like the people who send their PMs first will get the coolest chars. I think that's something of a flaw in the concept.
Maybe if we have like 10 chars to vote on and before the vote, members could send the list of who will place in what position from number 1 to 10.
Then members with the most accurate list of results after the vote passes through gets the most points... Oh well something along those lines if you follow me.
Like everyone is saying, it's a bit blurry right now in terms of objective and voting and stuff but really a great great idea. Just thinking about ANY combination of video game characters gets the head swirling with all kinds of badassery. Your always reliable so I expect a great end product. If done right I could see all of us getting into it.

I like it. It reminds me of Gamesradar's character battles.. except not based on who would win in a fight, but who's more awesome.

Are you kidding me? There is well over 100 cool characters in the gaming universe dude..
Oh, so we're holding a video game popularity contest?
Also, insulting the intelligence of people when they ask you for voting criteria that you didn't give at all is a bit of a dick move.
Also, that last post, the one right before me? Why the hell wasn't that the OP? I mean, TL;DR and all...
LOL. I thought it was held in jest. It's really just about how awesome the combo of two characters is.
It wasn't the OP because it didn't hold the information. If that's too long for you to read, I can't imagine you reading a book and actually developing yourself.

That's kind of the point, to get everyone into it, like a huge video game orgy. It's just "which team os more awesome? Once you decide, PM me your vote!". It would be explained if this is passed.

A much simpler way is to just have a poll in each thread. As opposed to all other contests you've done, this is not a rating contest that requires A) anyone to pick a number between 0-100 or B.) anyone to pick a users name. All we have to do is pick between two preset contestants. Having an anonymous poll is much easier both for the voters and for you, and will allow a whole lot more people to vote if they don't have to send you a PM.
Idle thought, but when people submit their teams to you, could they not also include two pictures of their characters (optional of course) to be included in their threads? I mean, not everyone will know of every character that comes up, and if we're going to vote blindly a picture might help out.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I like PD's idea. If I were to do this, I would probably pick my two favourite NBA players. But 99% of the peeps here wouldn't even recognize them and I'd be out. Even if I did post their pics, I don't think it'd help much.
