Hey guys, I saw this topic in the Barbarian thread (accidentally posted there) and I thought it was a good idea.
Well, I have only been able to get in about 4 hours of play with all of the server issues, but I have two Monks one level 11 the other is a Hardcore level 9. This is my Hardcore level 9 build so far: http://eu.battle.net...r/monk#bZYd!!aa
What I have been doing is leveling the Regular Mode Monk to a certain point, then switching over to my Hardcore Monk so I know what to expect in the upcoming journey.
I have found that Hardcore mode isn't really any harder than Regular mode (or at least it appears that way) and that it is just the single death rule that is nerve wracking. I carry LOTS of health potions just in case and have set my Templar to heal instead of Intervene.
Your HC char will die , 100% I'm in 2act in nightmare and I must say , if you are not paying attention (even for 1-2s) the dmg burst will kill you instantly , gl tho ...
Actually, I logged in last night to find some odd bug that switched my HC toon back to Normal and I had no way to change it back
In Hell act one , level 52. Going good so far but had to change my build a lot. You take a lot more damage then in NM so I go for all defensive spirit spenders and 3 spirit generators for dps. Works very well I can put out a lot of damage by rotating my spirit spenders and then spamming the heal whenever its up for heal and more dmg , then spamming Mantra to get extra shield while fighting and then serenity to save me or my partner.
here the build http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#abUXgQ!YXg!aZbbbb
It's somewhat of a movement/heal build... I've found it really useful for group play because I can weave around and keep people healed if necessary (including myself). I almost never worry about dieing because of the options (inner sanc heals, mantra heals, breath of heaven, potions, etc)... and sweeping wind is nice for some AOE around me as I move. We'll see how it holds up come higher levels though.
Here's a quick video I made of it in action if anyone cares:
I was keeping competitive all through NM in damage, but then our WD got a 200+ DPS weapon, popped Soul Harvest and got a 20k crit. Since then, I'm the tank, and glad to feel useful.

I really like the teleporting from the Fists of Thunder "Thunderclap" rune and can use it to get out of a swarm by attacking a mob on the outside.
i love Lashing Tail Kick but want to end up with the "Spinning Flame Kick" (lvl 28) rune as I think it would be better (no knockback)
I feel like Breath of Heaven and Sweeping Wind is a must for any PVE build.
the rest is filler for now or still waiting on runes.

May swap Circular Healing to Time of Need if I get more spirit regen on gear.
