Hey guy, i know there are other threads about the books, im sorry for another, but im confused. If i have not read any and want to read them because i want story for the games, what should i read and in what order? is the sin wars not even remotely about the diablo series (games)? im lost here lol.
Hi fella. The Sin War is a prequel and I would recommend if you read those to begin with the first one, Birthright. The Sin War is plenty about the Diablo universe. Though a prequel, lots of new lore was created for it.
The rest of the Diablo books could be read in any order.
Black Road, like the other non Sin War books, aren't directly connected to much. They merely add depth to the existing Diablo universe and show that there are other things happening around Sanctuary that don't have to do with the Prime Evils.
I'm sure you can find Demonsbane somewhere on Amazon. I've never read it myself.
thanks again for all the info, i have one last question though lol. How exactly would you say that these books tie into the games? is there any of the same characters (dont give anythgin away though please), or maybe reasons behind the names of some items, or places you visit? just curious. thanks again.
Legacy of Blood has a lot to do with Horazon and Bartuc, and features an NPC from Act 2.
The Black Road is about a demon named Kabraxis who is potentially as powerful as any one of the Prime Evils, but is not allied with any of them. He schemes and bides his time and hopes to overthrow the Prime Evils. He's an interesting character.
Kingdom of Shadow features a Necromancer detective named Zayl. It features the city of Ureh which is supposedly a location in Diablo 3. It was my least liked book though.
Prior to its inclusion in the Diablo Archive, Demonsbane was only available as an e-book. I'm not sure if you can still find it in that form, though.
This is the first time it has been available in print.
As Siaynoq said, most of the books are stand-alone stories and can be read in any order, except for the Sin war trilogy (obviously), but if you'd like to see where each book falls in relation to the others with regards to the overall timeline, check out this thread.
All you really need to read is the Sin War trilogy. Most of the other books just are little side stories with a few characters that may end up in Diablo III as an NPC.
But the Sin War trilogy really touches base on some of the Diablo storyline we never knew before - and I have reason to believe it will have many correlations with Diablo III. For example, the Triune.
I just finished the Diablo Archive tonight and Demonsbane is relatively short but really captures the feel of Diablo. My favorite so far is kingdom of shadow but I have yet to read moon of the spider and the trilogy. Ahhh, the poor citizens of Ureh, may their souls rest in peace

Anyway, I bought the archive and all the other books. I have read demonsbane and I loved it. Here is the order I am reading the books.
Demonsbane
Legacy of Blood
Black Road
Kingdom
Moon
Sin War 1, 2, 3
That is pretty much the order they were published too.
