deckard cain is the descendent of the earlier cain, and is the last of the Horadrim.

Why do you suppose he's that old? Not a lot of time had passed between D1 and D2, and he's mostly bald in D2 and has gray hair. And the only really sticky situation that you're aware of is how he escaped the gibbet and survived.

Yep. That is all i have to say. I would have to say maybe a few years difference between Diablo I and DIablo II. It is not like a century has passed by between Diablo I and Diablo II.

that is obvious i know but by saying he is the last of the horadrim he would be over 100 years at the time of diablo 1...regardless of what he looked like......and im fairly sure that if or when he does die their will be some sort of apprentice or something to identify your items or their will be some other guy you meet who seems to have unending knowledge on every peice of weaponry armour jewlery in existance

this is stupid, because remember the warrior put the soulstone into his forehead at the end of diablo 1. right after that, the warrior was overtaken by diablo, and so the wanderer came about. immediately after the wanderer was overtaken he got a follower (marius) and set out to set his brothers free. in other words, diablo 2 was right after diablo 1.
you guys arent listening i agree there is very little time between d1 and d2 in fact i believe its prolly no more than a month or two....im saying cain was insanly old in the first diablo
Well if Cain is 100+ years old and how would he pass away? I mean if the explanation is he got pneumonia or something like that there would be alot of upset fans because that's just lame. So I would like a suggestion of how he dies of old age.
i definatly dont want him to die of old age lol...im just saying its about time he should die lol....i hope he tries to protect some young people and azmodan like rips his face off or something
i suppose he is old because the horadrim disbanded hundreds of years before and and he is the last of them and hes still alive
Hmm, fair enough. There might be a number of ways to interpret his status among the Horadrim. First of all, I can't remember if he says he is the last of the Horadrim or the last living descendent of the Horadrim. However, he probably did say he was the last of the Horadrim, cause it seems unlikely that the Horadrim didn't procreate like everyone else so surely there are other descendants of the Horadrim order.
If being a descendant was a factor to the Horadrim, then we might have to assume they were so exclusive for a number of generations long enough to become something akin to a race. However, their order didn't seem to last long enough to take on any kind of racial aspects, so I'm also going to assume that being a descendant is not a factor to the Horadrim or their power.
So now, assuming that he is indeed the sole surviving member of the Horadrim, and not just a descendant of a Horadrim, let's then discuss how this could be possible.
It is entirely possible that while yes, Cain could be really old, so could everyone else in Sanctuary grow to be that old. What I mean is, you're assuming he's like ancient old because you are comparing the average lifespan of a human on Earth to the undetermined average lifespan of a human on Sanctuary. How do we know Drognan, Lysander, Akara, Malah, or other older people in Diablo have not grown to be as old as Cain. What I'm suggesting here is merely a possibility of how he could be so old. There may be tons of other people living on Sanctuary that were alive during the fall or even zenith of the Horadrim; simply because the average lifespan of mortals in this place are much longer than the ones here on Earth. But it's difficult to disassociate Sanctuary from Earth cause even Sanctuary still has cows, chickens, rabbits, etc. Those are all Earth creatures, yes? Now I'll admit, those chickens and rabbits you see could be called something else entirely, but we at least know for a fact that cows exist in Sanctuary. In the first Diablo, you can even highlight and click on the cows to make them moo. Do this repeatedly and your character says among other things, "Yep. That's a cow alright."
The whole longer lifespan theory aside, could we maybe assume that Cain's long life (if it is indeed so long) is the result of Horadric magic? The Horadric did seem to have powers and abilities that other mage clans lacked. I reckon they had more powers because for one, they were comprised of many mages from many different clans. Once initiated into the order, those mages likely gave up secrets from all their original clans. The Horadrim would have an advantage in this way. It's even possible that because Tyrael was their primary benefactor, he bestowed upon the Horadrim the secret to longevity.
Now with the two theories of longer lifespan and magic aside, here's what I tend to think the deal with Cain is. When the Horadrim disbanded (probably a euphemism), I think there was a small remaining group of members who knew that while they could not dedicate themselves to large campaigns of fighting the Prime Evils, they could at least commit themselves to educating themselves and others as much as possible about the Prime Evils as well as other wordly matters. I think among the Horadrim, there may have always been the more scholarly kind who had the duty to consume and digest information while other members had the duty of combat and sorcery. But when the Horadrim disbanded, campaigns for combat and sorcery were no longer viable. But the low maintainance members of the scholarly aspect of the Horadrim managed to carry on with what was left of their order. And I think even these members slowly died off without managing to replenish their ranks. They died off to the point when all there was left was a single master of lore and his apprentice. That apprentice was Cain. And ever since his master died, he had committed himself for the rest of his life to learning all he could about Sanctuary and all things connected to it.
So that's basically what I've sensed of Cain. I think besides being the last of his order, he was actually quite inconsequential to the Horadrim. But being the last of his order seems of huge consequence to the Horadrim. Being the last of anything seems of huge consequence. But how important one sees being the last of an order, depends on how important one sums that order up to be. And it's quite possible that the world of Sanctuary no longer has need of Horadric knowledge. That, or it's soon to be in dire need of it. Who knows?

Sorry I misunderstood your point. I agree with you that Cain will die and hopefully it will be something heroic he does when he dies.
Well, do remember, that the old drunk guy from Diablo I, the dude that was leanin against the rock, well, his skeleton was in D2, so it couldn't have been too far off, and, the child wirt was still in tact, so he wasn't much older than he was in Di

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
Epic quotes... all of them
