Just wondering if anyone has any solid experience and advice with this. My connection was pretty bad yesterday and I'd get spurts of 5~ second lag every few minutes. After this happened a few times in succession, I decided to stop playing HC for a bit. Needless to say, it got me wondering what the best thing to do is if we find ourselves in that situation.
If you're playing solo, do you attempt to pause the game? Do you try to leave the game? Run away? Use defensive abilities/potions? Some combination of the above?
Both ideas/theories and (preferably) real experience in these situations would be insightful. I'm mostly wondering about if the game will still get paused even during a lag spike. Thanks in advance for any contribution to the thread.
If I get connection below green I teleport back to town and wait it to get better or just disconnect and try again later..
+1. Lag = death in HC. Just ask yourself this question: if I were to keep playing knowing it was a particularly laggy time and die because of it, how mad would I be at myself for such an easily avoidable death? To me, it's not worth getting the extra little gaming in.

HC is a marathon....not a sprint.
For sure, and I don't disagree. Just wondering if we sudden get an unexpected lag spike, if it's possible to pause the game or what the best course of action may be right then and there.

As far as I know, there's no way to pause it (someone can correct me if I'm wrong?). In a scenario like you just illustrated, I'd try to get back to the nearest town ASAP or, failing that, an area I've cleared, and then monitor the lag for a minute or two. If it persists, I'd take a bit of a break - shop the vendors, maybe start a new character, etc.
I understand the temptation to keep going but I've experienced lag death in D2Exp, and it was not a fun feeling. I only play for maybe an hour or so a night (my barb is only lvl 23), and thus want to maximize the time I have available. Starting to level a second, much lower level character is, to me, a better way to use this time if the server is laggy. The time has to be put in regardless, and the risk/reward is less lopsided.
Likely when I get the full version I am hardly ever better than red in the latency. I still plan on playing HC with that type of connection. If I die than it was a good day to die.
To me the game is about smashing the living daylights out of demons. If the character dies at level 1 or over 9000 it does not matter to me.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers
Some fallout 4 mod makers have had their mods stolen and uploaded and downloaded on Bethesda's site for the Xbox One.

As Skullflower said, you can in fact pause the game by hitting ESC (only if you are playing solo, not with friends). I was mostly just wondering how the server would receive that command in the face of lag, and if it would be a wise thing to do. Thanks for the input though.
