I saw there couldnt be any more posts on the original discussion and I really wanted to add my overall opinion of what I saw the discussion was about. I ran across #2 with the same issue how they couldnt add any more to it but I couldnt figure out how to reply to that one so I just started a 3rd one. I'm sorry for the Inconviance.
Ive been reading through the comments and It seems everyone wants "Hardcore" right off the bat. Well, what about the new players? I feel to throw in hardcore right off bat would turn away the new players and not give them the time to experience the storyline as the blue posts stated in one forum. I completely agree with that. And no not sucking up. It seems some people would point out that someone isnt a true Diablo fan if they havnt played it since the beginning. I feel that It should be set as like on WoW there is PVP, RP, and normal servers. Maybe it would help everyone find that common ground and make every type of players happy but making a Hardcore server and a Beginning server. Or something along those lines. Or have a setting to where you can change it after you finish the story line.
I, myself will be new to the Diablo world and would probably get too frustrated with the hardcore right off bat since I wont know what I'm doing much.
I honestly feel that Blizz shouldnt be biased between the new players and the hardcore players. With that said, not saying that they are. I feel they are being quite fair with it.
You can always delete your character if you die on your first play. If you're feeling particularly hardcore, you can even buy new copies of diablo every time you die! The possibilities are endless.
Joking aside, you should really play SC at least to know which resistances you'll need etc, otherwise you won't go further than act 2... Hardcore is not fun because you don't know what to do in a situation, its fun because you know a game so well that you're sure you can finish it without dying
Just dont care about those who wants HC just from start.. They are not real HC players or they are just dumb.. I played only HC in D2 and i dont imagine to play D3 HC right from start! All of us who played HC for long time know about things like dolls with fana + amp or some souls with ress aura + amp.. Who know what kind of such combos will be in D3 that can just one shot You before u will even think about poping pot especialy when in D3 wont be something like alt + f4 or leaving game in less then a second..
I agree with you there, its good to know the gameplay mechanics/maps/mobs before we go into HC, but an option would be nice, but then again... if people have the option to go into HC from the start, quite a few will try it before normal and might find it to hard, then switch to softcore and never give it another try.
I don't see why hardcore without a normal playthrough would damage the game at all? If they just add a little text under "Hardcore mode" which explain that you'll actually lose everything when you die. Then the newbies only got themselves to blame if they pick it and die. I really don't see a reason, why you shouldn't could decide if you want hardcore or normal when you start.
Personally I'd rather be fighting for RMAH in Hardcore than worrying about having HC from the start. Learning the ropes for the first play through kinda makes sense to me. This way we'll be able to enjoy the storyline without worrying about the loss of life. If I had to pick sides though I'd say let the player decide if they want to start of with HC.

I don't think they can put RMAH in HC. Lets say you bought an item using real money. Then died 10 minutes after transaction and item is lost forever. People would rage harder than Blizzard can calm down, I don't see it happening. Also people who hate the idea of RMAH will also play HC since HC has no RMAH, Blizzard would also lose support of those players if they added RMAH to HC
I think not including hardcore from the start has a lot to do with RMAH actually. You see blizz knows that a lot of us want to play HC, but they also know that if they force us to play through on normal, by the time we finish A) we may have grown to really enjoy the character we're playing and the gear we've aquired, and we will be curious about nightmare difficulty and the potential gear upgrades there. This being said, there will be a percentage of us that decide to forgo starting our HC toons for the moment, and continue on with our SC toons. SC toons happen to be the ones that will be usign the RMAH, which blizz gets a cut from every transaction - thusly generating more capital during the crutial first few months of game release. Remember you playing HC does not benifit blizz whatsoever.
What is so bad about actually taking the easy way through to learn the game, learn monster affixes, learn more about the character you like, and in light of recent changes, learn some rune skills that could help in certain situations. I myself love hardcore but I not someone who would want to jump into it right away. My plan is to take my first char through to inferno before taking a step into hardcore to really challenge myself, but thats just me, being a "casual" and all
On the bright side, at least you know that whoever your grouped with in HC has already beaten normal difficulty and has a rough idea of how to play the game at that point.
