Well I think in a game like Skyrim where it's not multiplayer people shouldn't be as focused on feeling like they have to be as strong as possible. If I make a vampire, it'll be on a evil/chaotic neutral character, not like my lawful good Imperial paladin.
Whenever I play an RPG for the first couple times, I play it through correctly. That means no wrongful murder, I think my decisions through with good intentions, and I try to be as helpful as possible. Once I play through it a few times, I start to goof around in the world. This usually equates to me saving an going on random killing sprees.
Still hoping the console is in the PC version.
And my father has pretty much guaranteed me a better system than the one I already have because I know we're both getting Battlefield 3 and we're going to need computer upgrades to be able to play it. In my eyes, if I can play Battlefield 3 on moderate graphic quality, then I can play Skyrim at a higher grade.

Best case scenario: Vampirism is more unique than it was in Oblivion. It's more constructive and interesting and it's not "dammit, I got porphyric hemophilia. Time to find an altar. Dammit." to actually having to think about the pros and cons of being a vampire. The entire system itself becomes more interesting.
Worst case scenario: It's as plain/bland or only slightly better than in Oblivion. The modding community fixes it, just like they did with Oblivion.
ANY flaws in this game I know can be fixed through patches and mods.
A huge part of why I love the Elder Scrolls series.

Yeah, the modding community is really something special. The only thing that really gets on my nerves is the overabundance of overly-sexual race mods. Aside from that, I feel that the modding community has something good to offer for any problem that needs fixing or any addition that can enhance the game.
That's why I'll be modding, but mostly for myself.

I think a lot of people are forgetting this is being made on the same engine as Oblivion. Sure it's been upgraded a lot since then but certain things still aren't possible on this engine.
I by no means think the engine looks bad, and am glad they decided to go ahead with this instead of waiting for consoles to bring out Xbox 1080 and PS4 or whatever. You have to remember this game is not PC only.
Elder Scrolls VI is still coming, mark my words, so I assume by then new consoles will be out along with a new engine.
He just said they rewrote a bunch of stuff and now call it the creation engine. It's still the base engine.
Just look at some of the rock structuring, its almost exactly the same. It's a pretty heavily modified engine but it's still essentially the same. They can't push out a new one until all consoles can handle it.
He also said that in a interview at E3 but I can't be bothered to find it right now. Something like, "Instead of waiting for the next gen consoles to come out, we decided to make Elder Scrolls V and work with what we have."
I bet it's still a heavily updated version of the Gamebyro engine.
Anyways the main reason for all the small issues is because if they fixed it all consoles would probably have to run it on low view distance or sacrifice something else. I bet it pushes the limits of consoles right now, especially the Xbox. (not that I'm a fanboy for Xbox, I don't own any console)
There are significant graphical improvements that have been made. At first, I didn't like the look of flowing water, but after seeing gameplay videos and the such, it does look very natural and nice.
But, then gain, the combat is still kind of "clumsy." Certain moves that should have a significant impact on an enemy's health just takes a chunk out of it. It's still like Fallout in a sense. I remember watching the first gameplay videos and Todd Howard cut a guy in the neck and he just stood there. That makes me cringe every time I see it because I thought we were past the whole "I cut you and you don't even look like it phased you at all" era.
I'm still very excited for this game. I don't know any friends who aren't.

The Manual got leaked. Some cool stuff like hirelings and for me brawls.
Also the fact if you kill all witnesses to a crime guards won't come. No more psychic guards. "HALT CITIZEN!"
I was disappointed the manual didn't talk about races or racial abilities, or maybe they just didn't post that part. It's all looking nice though to me!

Bethesda games definitely seem to struggle with that mmph factor in combat. The feeling where it's really satisfying to hit an enemy or where they're reacting according to the ways in which you're attacking them.
Fallout made slight improvements from Oblivion but you could tell there was still a ways to go. From what I've seen in the E3 demo it does look better though but I wish there was some more gameplay footage to watch. I kind of need my fix even though there's less than a month to go.
Yeah I'd love to have something to read or oggle at over the next month until its out.
Targeted attacks seem nice but then you sort of run into problems like... a neck shot or head strike with any weapon is an instant kill, and if you account for lack of armor and weak areas you have to account for more armored places. So if I hit an opponent in a plate breastplate it might not do anything really to them. Not saying it can't be pulled off, I'm just not sure it's a necessary hassle. Or they could do it like Fallout 3 with bloody mess perk and everything splatters heads and dismembers people.
I'd like to see targeted effects personally. Like for that neck slash a bleeding DoT effect would be cool, or hit their arm enough and they can't hold a shield or weapon in it anymore, things like that. Sort of like a more brutal crippling system that Fallout had.

It would be awesome. But it would need go way beyond what F3 did to impress me. They had the right idea. You know, guys limping and such, but hitting them anywhere else didn't really do much and you had little incentive to aim for anywhere but just the head. Which by the way, I actually didn't like that heads always exploded. It should've been a rare thing. When I score a headshot with a sniper rifle I just want the bullet to go through their head so I get the feeling of a nice clean shot cause I'm this cold-blooded steely-eyed sniper.
In Skyrim, seriously, just let me cut off a guy's arm in combat if I can manage to score such a hit. And let this guy in his rage and bloodlust keep coming at me while he's losing blood. Then he should start to slow down shortly thereafter and get pale from blood loss to the point where he feints and just kind of dies.
Or his foot. Say I stab his foot. I want sometimes for my sword to get stuck in his boot while he's screaming in pain cause there's my sword in his foot and he doesn't know whether to try and pull it out or take advantage of me trying to get my stuck weapon out of his boot.
It's really a damn shame. I wasn't even that into dismembering bodies in F3, but it was nice to know that bodies could be blown apart. I liked when it just sort of happened unexpectedly. Like you'd shoot them with a shotgun and their arm would just come off.
Well, I mean no Elder Scrolls game had that to begin with so not a major loss. I don't need my games to be overtly violent. I just like violence as being a thing of chance where it could happen.
Speaking of video cards (I didn't want to get into it in the Rage thread) the very one Skyrim recommends is the one I got! Yihuu! You should invest in it. It's a really great deal for a mid-range GPU.
Elder Scrolls definitely aren't for everyone. Even for people who are into FPS fantasy games. I like it for lots of reasons though. And this game has elves. And I fucking hate elves. But I still like Elder Scrolls. They're even fun games for discussing everything that's wrong with them. LOL
I agree. I remember reading somewhere that they more or less "dumbed down" the stats and all that stuff, which kinda upset me. It's still gonna be a major social life killer though.
To me I'm less concerned about the stats than how your character shapes the world you're in. This is something Oblivion, heck even Morrowind failed miserably at as an RPG. I want my decisions to really matter. And I don't just want my actions to make a town's economy go bad. That's Fable talk. I want my decisions to seriously alter the main plot of the game and I want the possibility of multiple endings based on how I've proceeded throughout the game. Character customization comes second to that.
Still hoping the console is in the PC version.

Good news is Oblivion already has many working mods for it.
So I expect to see even better ones for Skyrim.
I LOVED the post-mortum dismemberment in FO3. Never has roleplaying a serial killer felt more satisfying.
