I think it'd been more satisfying to tie all the loose ends of wc3 with wc4, but you can't really say that WoW ruined the lore, it just merely tied the loose ends with another style of a game than wc3 was.
Biggest problem with continuing the story with a MMORPG was that the lore events aren't as accessible and it takes longer to go through them.
.
Nah, it ruined it. They didnt just take it in a new direction or tie up loose ends, it ripped apart what was there before JUST to make it so factons could fight eachother. Did you even play wc3? Simple example, in wc3 there had to be an alliance of all factions to defeat the burning legion. But in WoW its just like, oh sup everyone got mad at eachother again for some reason and now they are fighting eachother.
Only a small minority of people would say WoW didnt ruin the WC lore. I think those people dont really know what they are talking about.
I'm pretty sure humans vs orcs is two separate races
plus u can easily make a diablo rts, it would involve this scenario lets say
You are part of the sin wars, and you are on the two separate factions, Inariu's faction, vs. the Prime evils factions, Or even Belial vs Azmodan the two would have their demonic armies fighting each other
The problem with a diablo rts is that above sides and ranks, which can easily be done, you need buildings to create. I mean is heaven going to have an Angel training camp to build or hell have a demon bog to spawn demons to build.
It does work for an mmo however because all you need are the two factions, different classes and a lot of story to creat tons of quests. It would be fun if you played an angel class and started in heaven. Then you make your way into Sanctuary and finish in hell. And then the game would be backwards for demons.

But RTS's are centered around the building up of your faction and then demolishing the other team. Maybe I have a lack of imagination but I really can't think of many feasible buildings for Heaven or Hell. Not enough to create an RTS from.
My point is that Diablo is much more suited for an MMO compared to an RTS.

i dont think the mmo would work to well like u explained scyber, everyone in an mmo can see everyone (in each realm, w/e).
if you get a mass of dudes from hell invading hell to win the game at level 99, they are invading on places close to level 5 dudes.... it seemed really flawed and i know u prob didnt plan to make the game on the spot, but ya
i think giving a fable twist would be better. we have hell, human, heaven.
humans are in the middle and thats how EVERYONE starts out. from there, like fable, you can choose which way you want to go. if you want to fight for hell, go slay rabbits and butterflys. if you want to be fighting for heaven, you fight fallen and slugs. this way, when you are getting to the end game, you are not enroaching on level 5 dudes, and the game can be build a little more controled. and, as you go farther into hell, certain quests give you things that make you look like *good* and give you some special *good* skills. when you go into heaven to fight you, over time complete quests that make you look *bad* and give you *bad* type of skills. these skills would only be a few and make a strict distrinction between good and bad guys. each character would still have there personal skill tree or w/e is used. and, lets just say, to make races or something, at the semi begining of the transformation quests, you have to choose what type of bad/good guy you want to be, which helps sculpt who you will look like.
my 3 cents. ill prob not be back for a long while so ya, trolling

It's not very complicated to make it.
Any RTS need :
Resources and a way to extract it.
A primary building (Hall)
A barrack (fighter) (or maybe a new kind of feature to make it)
A forge (upgrade)
And ... the rest still pretty the same to the others mentionned.
And how the building will be named is not so important.

I think you mean : dudes from hell invading heaven... ?
I see 2 ways to fix it.
1. Heaven and Hell is a safe place for newbe, the war happen in Sanctuary.
2. Everyone have a "home" teleport (angel fly up through a light beam from the sky) Every time the heaven/hell are attacked everyone advised and quickly teleport to support else. (It will create very great siege)
Nice ideas, the diablo prequel would be awesome, though I'm not sure I would like a Diablo MMO... I think WoW made me hate MMOs with all that grinding and having to play full-time to be decent. I guess MMOs aren't all like that.
It's exactly what I hate, and d2 have this concept . I greatly hope d3 will not be that way.
Have you played WoW? Diablo 2 does not have this concept imo.
Sure, people that play full time will have the edge over casual players, but there's a line between playing 40hrs a week and have a few extra stats over other people and having to play 40hrs a week just to get to end game content, and that's why I don't like MMOs like WoW.

No I never played WoW and I will never.
I prefer a game where you need ability to play to pwn than an hardcore game where you doesn't need ability but time to pwn.
(Hey you're stronger than me, BRAVO you waste more time than me) hand clap, do you want trophy ?

Sorry, didn't mean any offense, was just asking because I totally agree with you and I don't like that game either for the same reasons than you. Was just saying that diablo 2 doesn't need full time playing to be decent.
if they do it will be Ok...but shouldn't be called world of diablo lol And they might since diablo 3 seems to be like the last one well that would at least fit in the storyline but i would probably rather have a D4 or just another Expansion to D3
Was just saying that diablo 2 doesn't need full time playing to be decent.
The same for me (no offense)
Depending of what you mean by "decent" yes, but I'd find that annoying to see people with teleport and/or with an armor (aura, +% of almost all stats and +3 all skills....) damn.... I never made a single runeword. Maybe d3 with a good trading system will fix that. But I hate given a so big advantage like that to the people who play their life, it's unfair for others to prevent this buff.

Hah, welcome to modern D2
Not like I'm playing much but I played with enigma and other of those runewords.
As of D3, I read that they want to make high end items (lvl 85+) bind on equip to keep a good economic flow, and I'm sure they will balance items better.

What are you going to build up heaven and hell? I get the people but what kind of buildings would you create in these places?

Can be really cool !!
Choose your side... heaven or hell
? hein ?
LOL
You need to review your definition of RTS !
Red alert : human vs human (where is the races)
Warcraft I and II : humans vs orcs (good vs evil)
Good vs evil = heaven vs hell
Sorry I don't understand your comment ?
I always thought that "fallen" is a kind of goblin in the hell side ?
You want a RTS evil vs evil ?

But that would be amazing, it'd have to be HARRDDDCOREE

I never said the contrary ?!
RTS doesn't essentially need "race", it's only need sides...
