I always thought that it would be a good idea just to spread everybody out. Like, I have this idea that works off of The Giver where there are communities separated by a few miles of road to allow for alternative energy sources to be implemented. Like, for example:
And these communities can be about medium sized. Large enough to accommodate a good amount of people, but small enough so that combinations of alternative energy can be practical enough to provide power for the whole community. Each community has their own power grid so if one community loses power due to natural calamities, other communities retain power. Also, this would allow for technicians to operate more efficiently in the face of a total power outage.
I just think it's crazy that so much can be accomplished with alternative energy. I hope I can at least see some advancement in my lifetime. We need to lose our hard-on for foreign oil and fossil fuels.

Wind power is highly overrated as it is extremely unpractical as a main power source. Wind power without a stable power source, such as coal or nuclear plants, will have frequent power outages and if you want each community to be on its own power grid, then having a coal or nuclear plant in each town is also unpractical. Solar would not be much better and as for hydro, in order for this plan to work, you would have to dam an insane amount of rivers, which would fuck up the environment, and a drought would deplete not only water but power from any nearby communities.
The main benefit of our current power grid is its reliability. If everybody decides they want to turn on a light at the same time, the power grid will be okay, however if each town were to be on an independent grid this reliability goes away and people either need to be told how much energy they can use during which times, or there has to be a large amount of excess power being produced.
I just think it's crazy that so much can be accomplished with alternative energy. I hope I can at least see some advancement in my lifetime. We need to lose our hard-on for foreign oil and fossil fuels.
I don't think it can really be described as a hard on, when we choose the most practical choice. Solar, wind and hydro are all nice additions to our energy production, however they cannot be the backbone of our power supply. Due to the media, people hate nuclear power, so coal is really our only current option. Its awful from an environmental standpoint but when it comes to environment vs having a stable power supply, people choose the latter.
The same can be said for oil, it is currently the best option. Hybrid cars are a great thing, but they are only a temporary fix to the problem and so far no better fuel has been created. Ethanol is a joke, solar cars are not practical, electric cars are great for short distances, but can't go very far and hydrogen fuel cell technology isn't there yet. And having a dependency on foreign oil is not necessarily a bad thing, we live in a global market, countries are dependent on each other it is the way the current world works. The real reason why people hate foreign oil is the media always spins stories to make it seem like OPEC is all powerful, but in reality the country we import the most oil from is Canada, followed by Mexico.
I think your ideas would make more since in an ideal world, but thinking about an ideal world is useless and boring.
I'm pretty sure I was a Liberal coming out of the womb. My mom shoved a Communist Manifesto in my hand and that was the first publicized work I ever read. My dad beat me with a belt that said, "Save a horse, ride a Union Worker."

And I agree that a lot of my theories work off of broad assumptions. For one, let's say that appliances and the such become much more energy efficient in the future. Then it won't matter if everybody wants to flip on their light switch because the power consumption would be much less than it is today. We've already made progress with changing our lightbulbs, but we can go even further by going to LED lights and the such.
These are only ideas. I thought it was a good one. It might not be the most practical thing in the world. For one, there might not be a lot of jobs available in medium sized communities. But, then again, certain communities can be used to produce a certain thing.
And we might not have a "hard-on" (as I so eloquently put it), but I think we have to realize that these resources can't last forever and the cost will surely outweigh their convenience. I just think that it would be better to jump on more AE production now as opposed to later.

Umpa I'm pretty sure it was that...keserai? Kizza? Anyway he was from Turkey. He created the original URT. And yes, it was ultimately my best work on this forum hard deleting that thread. Though in retrospect, had I never done that and eventually be promoted to moderator manager, I'd have a beta key right about now. That still doesn't mean the rest of ya'll get the last laugh though.
What was the real reason you deleted that thread? Did you just not like it or were you ordered to delete it because of bandwidth usage and all that good stuff?
And I'm pretty sure it was Keserai as well.

The biggest reason I deleted it was because members were getting post counts for it. I like to think that when you create content, it should meet a certain standard or you shouldn't get credit for it. I felt people had too much power to create a thing that so many people could see and that's a serious responsibility at times. People often underestimate the power to create content. And with everyone doing it so freely and getting credit for it in the form of post counts, it created a blurring effect and bumped other threads down where people were actually putting real thought and consideration into what they were saying.
Did people in the URT never consider what they were saying? Of course not. But they did not do it enough to justify their behavior. I was trying to show people that the power to create content that others could see needed to be taken more seriously. Have fun in the URT all you want, but not completely at the expense of others trying to have more serious discussion. I was basically sticking up for those trying to get noticed and create stimulating conversation over those just spamming the forums and getting undeserved credit for it. I'm not sure if any of this makes sense. I'm a tad drunk.
Well yeah it is now. But I had nothing to do with that. The site managers or whatever simply finally came to their senses. But things are different now anyway. To me, the D3 section is the real spam section. Cause people make a lot of pointless stupid ass threads about D3 and they do it so impulsively.

I should've liked Kenzai more cause he was Turkish. But I hated him actually. I'm pretty positive he's got the same name and is simply gone now. Among plenty of others I wouldn't mind seeing return.
