Hey guys, I've a somewhat lengthy question to ask that I can't even seem to find a right forum for. Dfans is populated by smarter than the average people so I figured I'd slap this topic in here just in case one of you is an expert on what I need.
What do I need to Broadcast Live? Here's what I mean and what I've been using so far:
I want some form of technology that can livestream videos. So far I've been using my own Samsung Galaxy S2 as a camera, USTREAM as the platform to broadcast on and a laptop in my backpack for longer battery on the SGS2.
Several problems are apparent right away:
1. Android has forbidden third party software access to its HD camera, so all I can really livestream is about 240p. So I need a new device. Anything would do as long as it's not too pricey. Smartphone, GoPro, DSLR, whatever it is. I just need it to be able to transmit videos in HD (at least 720p, 30fps).
2. Internet connectivity right now is just not enough. I can't seem to get a good grip on 3G sources and WiFi just isn't everywhere. If I want to record somewhere in a deserted field I need a reliable method to get on the Internet with a very good, very high upload speed.
3. Using third party platforms is all fine and dandy but most of them have some awful requirements like using even 4th party programs or some form of payment or things like that. Is there software available that can make it so I can set up my own server? I don't believe there will be lots of stress on it since I'll only broadcast my own livestreaming on it and there likely won't be many users watching.
If anyone can help with these issues please feel free to leave a comment or if not at least guide me to the right place so I can ask the questions there. Much appreciated!
The main problem you're probably going to have is with the actual internet connection itself. If you can't get 3G or WiFi I'm not really sure there's anyway you're going to get a connection that can stream 720p and 30fps. The camera and the software shouldn't be too hard for someone more knowledgeable than me on the subject to help you out with though.
