im planning on buying a fire pit for my parents for Xmas, but i have no experience in fire pits.
so im wondering if anyone here has one and could help me pick out a nice model. im thinking a copper bowel and a table rim. its for a reddish looking wooden deck, so im not even sure its allowed...
any other gift suggestions?

I don't have one, so I'll be of no help, sorry. The copper bowl and table rim sounds good to me. Just make sure the table in which the copper bowl will be placed, has a wide enough radius to prevent embers from possibly falling on the deck. Do I even have the concept of copper bowl and a table rim right?
I have a copper fire pit (it's on a stand on a stone landing) and I think that it would be perfectly suitable.
So you want to drop the pit into a table? Or am I getting the wrong picture? It's very much possible (there are current trends with fire pits where they have done that), but I would advise making a stand under the table for it to sit on or else the conductive heat caused by the fire and the metal can damage the underlying wood.
And please tell me if I'm getting the wrong idea. I really want to help.

the one im looking at is a premade one, its a copper bowl about 30'' in diameter, and a 10" table-rim around the bowl + stand.
how does the copper look after you fire it up?

The outer part of the copper usually looks fine. What you have to take into consideration is, does it look alright with everything else in the back yard(ie. lawn furniture)
I prefer the black colored fire pits myself. You can usually get nice ones at Lowes or Home Depot.

well the deck is a reddish/copper colour so i think that fits, but im more worried about whether or not copper is durable and if the table rim is a good idea or to just go with the bowl/pit.
but, i think i just might order one today

but im not sure if copper is the way to go, if 40'' is enough of a size and what to look for in a nice pit.
hopefully someone that owns one can help me decide
or suggest a different gift
