Grooveshark is great, but what I like about Spotify is that it is its own application rather than a web application. Just feels nicer and more responsive imho. Also means I can use the media keys on my keyboard from within any program. Can't really live without that ^^
does the invite give me premium. it was such a bummer when i found out the spotify app on my phone only works with premium. on my laptop its great for discovering albums.
any other cool, free-er, programs like that out there?

I gladly pay the monthly fee every month, the amount of new albums that are on there the day of release is wicked! I would be buying them anyway so it works out cheaper for me plus I have the app on my phone for boring days at work
I just checked out their website because of your post. I'm not too sure it would fit the way I use the internet to listen to music. I use a site called Slacker Radio. It's more of an internet radio type service, which offers radio with advertisements and the ability to skip songs so many times in a day. For a premium price, they offer advertisement-free listening, unlimited skips and the ability to cache radio stations on their app for Android/iPhone. Cached radio stations on my phone keeps me entertained for those all-nighters in an area I don't get any service.
I like the idea of Spotify, but I'm not very good with knowing exactly what songs I like to listen to, so building a playlist is relatively difficult for me. Slacker Radio takes that job away from me by allowing me to select a "radio station" that I want to listen to based on genre. Usually I just listen to the Alternative or Alternative Hits station and I'm kept entertained with all the music I love to hear yet can never remember the titles or artists' names
pandora is a radio, spotify is a playlist you can create from any artist. with premium you can take your songs "offline" and also stream to your mobile.

Yeah, that does kinda suck. And I couldn't stand the ads so I bought the premium. So now I also have it on my phone which is great :)!
@apples No, you'd have to pay for premium unfortunately I don't know of any similar services that offer mobile access for free.
Sent you an invite via PM!

Although, being able to get a desktop app without having to pay would be nice.
