The good the bad and the ugly… No matter what they fall under I want to see what other players think will happen in the future of the games development. Please note this is not a wish list thread so please keep those for something another day.
My predictions for this game are…
The level limit will increase as developers figure out how to balance it and with expansions. I think this is a give in due to the odd level 60 cap.
Eventually all items in your inventory will suffer the 10% durability loss on death to prevent hot keying item swapping if you think you’re going to die.
I think they will re-introduce skill points in some way shape or form. Right now there’s no reason to make multiple characters (of the same type) and I think they will remedy this by having players pick out some kind of unique attribute to add to.
I believe once they add item drops back to chests and breakables that they will also make changing your equipped items remove your valor buff. That would help correct the ”bad behavior” that they think gear swapping is.
I think that once the game has settled more that more decent items will eventually flood the market. Not necessarily the best items but pretty good ones at least. Since there’s no reason currently to make another character of the same class (and very little reason to hold on to multiple decent item types for that character) of the same type that the items will eventually outweigh the players demand.
Expansions that come out the quests will be more meaning full and give “one time” rewards that are unique to that character.
I predict that blizzard will eventually charge people cash to change servers.
This might be a stretch but I think they might consider different game modes. Like right now I feel as if we are playing story mode and in the future that they might add a random dungeon mode where the deeper you go the better the rewards (and harder the difficulty) The story of the game is starting to wear on a lot of players who are a little tired of the NPC dialog and relatively unrewarding quests.
The obvious new character classes that they include in expansions as well as companions. A few guesses might be the Paladin class, Some kind of human demon hybrid, Angelic class, Druid class
The game will get better. I think that they designed a lot of the game around the community during the beta phases. I however wonder if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Diablo 1 + 2 coined a genera that many games have since been dubbed diablo clones. One thing that sets them aside is they did not have as big of a community at the start. I wonder if the game suffered from too much player driven development. What they did in this game was taken all of the good things from diablo 2 and made them have a bigger center stage roll in this game. Unfortunately this removed a lot of the games mechanical diversity and replaced it with the things the community wanted and shoves it in your face. It’s still an ok game… I’ll still play it but needs work and they are working on it.
2. Very doubtful. Dying with a inventory full of loot that you don't plan on using, only selling? To lose 10% durability on all of that would suck hard.
3. Not a chance. We've moved away from that, with good reason. Picking stat points is arbitrary and ultimately pointless: people will figure out 'optimal' builds anyway, so it's just an unnecessary complexity.
4. Possible.
5. Probably going to happen, yes. Then again, there'll be new players joining a lot, and the amount of players will naturally drop over time... Maybe it'll keep itself balanced. Who knows.
6. No real opinion on this, depends on what exactly you have in mind.
7. I have no idea why they'd do this. You go to the server that is closest to your location: there is absolutely no need to switch to America or Asia if you're based in Europe (with the sole exception of playing with friends over there, in which case you'd probably make a new character to play with them anyway). This would be an ultimately pointless thing, so I can't see it happening.
8. A random dungeon mode sounds pretty cool. Entirely possible!
9. New classes, totally. Only a matter of time.
10. Yep: Blizzard are constantly working hard to improve the game, same as all their franchises. I have faith that they will continue to do the same with Diablo 3.
As for my own predictions... I don't know to be honest, you covered the ones I would've thought of. Usually I don't bother with predictions, I just trust Blizzard to make the right decisions. They haven't let me down yet.
