I'm not one to game for long periods of time or paranoid about getting blood clots but since we're most likely reaching the release of D3 soon and some other games i'll want to spend alot of time on I thought it might be a good idea to discuss healthy ways to game at length and keep safe at the same time!
Its hilarious how that was not about a guy WORKING in front of a computer for 8 hours straight. It HAD to be a gamer. Now doesn't that tell you anything?
Every hour or so one should get up and walk around to stretch one's legs and give one's eyes a break. As for me, I don't endorse gaming more than three hours a day. Of course, anyone with a busy life and a lot of responsibilities (such as myself) would be hard pressed to play for more than an hour a day, save for on occasion.

I make sure people go to jail. The only thing more fun is Diablo 3.

Remember the String of Ears
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
Poor guy, I hope this is a wake up call to anyone who sits at their computer for hours on end.
I think it was Winged who has a similar thread on gaming for long periods of time. The basics are eating healthy, drinking plenty of water/juice and obviously getting up and using your muscles to avoid cramps and give your eyes a rest. Obviously if you have lots of sugar or caffeine you'll get a short burst before crashing hard. Better just to avoid energy drinks or drink in moderation (they have the warnings on the can for a reason).
Do you think living like that for long periods of time is healthy? I'm not saying it will kill you but if you're going to spend that much time gaming you need to look after yourself. You can also get serious back and neck injuries which can be easily prevented.
Hum? Its not like I said "hey, its good to sit down all day every day and do just that". But I'm one that doesn't even care to eat healthy, because I hate eating healthy, so why would I do it? Some people want to focus their lives on doing everything right, but I want a balance. Yes, you have to be careful sometimes, yes you have to limit yourself, like you need to get some exercise even if you love to sit all day. But I would never start eating perfectly, and doing all that is "healthy", because what I love about my life would be gone.
But thats not even what this is about. If I want to have sessions of 5 hours sitting in front of a screen, I see nothing wrong with that, as long as there is some balance in your life.
Yeah I've had five hour gaming sessions in the past. I used to eat rubbish all the time but you start feeling like rubbish after a while. I still eat junk food occasionally and also spend a few hours each day on a computer, but I eat healthy when I can and I exercise daily. I feel much better for it.
I'm not pushing my view on anyone, do whatever you like.
Definitely sounds like your denying how a gamer should be gaming but it's not like I care because I'll do whatever I like but I really dislike people who think because they had a bad experience gaming or whatever that every gamer is gaming how you did.

'>That's your fault for eating like that, i'm not surprised you don't do 5 hour gaming sessions anymore.
I play games for about 6-12 hours a day, and all other time is devoted to friends, sleep and working out, I'm fine, I might have some fat on me being 200 pounds but for the most part i'm fit, healthy and fine. It isn't bad to sit there for 12+ hours as long as you take care of yourself in other ways you could do anything you want.
In order for you to die like this it takes more than just gaming for extended periods, it takes a complete lack of taking care of your body, you would have to ignore food drink and exercise possibly even sleep for this to happen. Most people will never experience such a thing in their lives.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Gaming is meant to be a fun activity, just like cards or monopoly. Some people go absolutely overboard with the time spent gaming and they unavoidably become unhealthy from it. It's not a chance thing, if you eat more than you burn while your daily activities consist of sleep, sit on a computer chair, walk around for 10 minutes, go to bed, you WILL gain weight and lose your good health pretty quickly. Crit is absolutely correct in 'pushing his views' on people.
OP: I usually play during the night when I have spare time, so if I do feel like playing for a fair amount of time (3-4 hours) I just get up every now and then to say, have dinner, do the washing up, have a shower, brush my teeth etc. If you're playing throughout the day then even better, just get up after an hour or so, go out to your back yard and kick a ball or something until you start to sweat or you're bored, and then continue with your game.
What's the difference between playing games for long period while sitting on sofa (possibility of comfort since it's your home) vs working in an office 8 hours (sometimes longer with overtime)sitting on the company's uncomfortable chair? I even sometimes eat at my desk when it's really busy meaning no breaks too.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.

Which is why I was suggesting people look after their health and bodies. Sorry if my post offended you, I'll try to be more considerate in future posts.

Office chairs are actually better for your posture providing you sit in them properly.
I'm a bodybuilder, family man with a career, AND a gamer. It's a delicate balance. Eating healthy is easy, lifting weights and doing cardio is easy, and gaming is easy. It's a win-win. I'll probably play D3 6-8 hours a week. And I work out 4-5 hours a week. You can overdo anything. Don't overtrain in the gym and don't overplay vidja games. Take breaks and leave time for resting your body.

Agreed with the taking a break part.
I, being a teenager, have hardly any real responsibilities as of right now. Come August, I'm going to be going to the gym every day, rain or shine, and doing my homework right when I get home and shit. Hopefully I have a chance at getting a job too because that's something I desperately need.
But I can agree with you that people with a lot of responsibilities would be hard pressed to find themselves gaming for more than two hours. Once I get out of college, however, my schedule should clear up because, by then, I'll just be working so many hours a week and stuff.
Wait, this thread isn't about me?
Anyway, the recommendation is a 15 minute break for every hour of gaming. I actually follow that rule and, I'll tell you what, it does help if I'm stuck at a really difficult part in a game because it allows me to get away from it and think about possible ways to beat it. I'm not a hardcore gamer by any means.

If you do what you love, do it but remind yourself to do it with moderation same goes for any hobby.
