I dunno it sort of makes me sad to see people happy about this. A terrorist is dead, people applaud and cheer, but that's also what they did when they killed innocent people. It just seems like we're sort of lowering ourselves to a terrorists level when we applaud death.
CBS is reporting "Americans outside white house rejoice at news of Bin Laden death."
Sure it's over now, and justice has been done, I just don't feel like we should be this happy over death.
I wonder if they'll let people drag his dead body through the streets and set it on fire and kick it and beat it with clubs. You know. The way angry Muslims drag dead U.S. soldiers through their streets.

The cheering isn't directly towards him being dead its more about what he stood for. Although some people are just happy he is dead, the majority are happy that after all these years we finally got him.
Sure we can be happy over his death. He orchestrated the death of thousands of people.
I never said people weren't allowed to be happy. I said I didn't feel like we should be.
I like to think we're above that sort of thing. Cheering when someone is killed. That's something, as you pointed out, they do.
I'm glad some people got their piece of mind back and we are a little safer but I'll never cheer about anyones death or dance on anyones grave, no matter how bad the crimes the person committed were.
And ya, I do understand Dae on the point he's making. Cheering on death is...ugly, almost barbaric.
It's almost inevitable though that this would be the case, given that people must probably see this as some way of 'getting back' at that guy...though he is dead.
I'm just relieved he died- the guy was being hugely detrimental to our species.
Is there that much of a difference between being relieved and happy? People cheering are just stupid. But I don't think there's anything barbaric about it.
I'm not begrudging people their 'happiness'. I suppose since the term 'happiness' itself lacks a universally-recognized/acknowledged definition, it will mainly be an argumentation over semantics.
The difference of cultures must also constitute another hallmark for our differing views I guess. From where I am, any sort of overt celebration is generally looked down upon. Needless to say, when death is concerned, things are generally expected to go down as grim as possible.
Still, getting that thorn out of one's foot must feel thoroughly good.
And I do cheer when subzero rips my opponent in half.
I don't support cheering on something like death, but I think that, somehow, this event deserve recognition in the form of celebration.
*thinks about forming an analogy concerning ewoks and the Death Star, then decides not to*
It doesn't deserve any recognition. This is part of the joke of this century and anyone "celebrating" over his death is celebrating some of the most pathetic human beings to ever exist.
And celebrating over someone's death is the biggest sign of idiocy ever conceived. You celebrate over someone's death, you don't deserve to live. More so when its related to that stupid America.
I guess people may be happy because they feel that some sense of justice has been served. Other people just cheer for something to be happy for and rally against. Bad stuff happens to good people and life is unfair, but when people get what they "deserve" then life seems like less of a random collection of events. Who knows if people should cheer or not. Osama's death doesn't mean an end to terrorism or that Al-Qaeda will be abolished. In fact news of Osama's death will probably lead to some sort of retaliation. So who knows if people should celebrate, but sometimes people just need a reason to cheer and be happy.
It is my belief though that most American's don't think about this kind of stuff and are cheering because that is what they feel that they are supposed to do. Obviously America is awesome and terrorists are evil and killing terrorists is awesome and killing the leader of the terrorists is the most awesome.
On another note. It is pretty grim to celebrate the organized assassination of a person, but everything has its own context to consider.
What a lot of people are celebrating is justice. I know that sounds silly to a lot of people, but Americans felt really cheated out of it after 9/11 and many more of us had to feel worse about going to war over places and people that had nothing to do with 9/11. So here we killed one asshole who obviously deserved to die and yeah I think it's okay that people celebrate that.
I personally would rather privately feel good about bin Laden dying. But I really ain't the rallying partying type either. And like I said those people celebrate to the extent they do cause they're on television and that's the most moronic thing about them is how they're just excited to be on tv and partying.
I don't think you know what his death truly signifies.
You do know this guy took full credit for 9/11, don't you? And I'm not even saying that to fan patriotic fervor, I'm saying that because this one man is responsible for the death of thousands upon thousands of people, not just in the US, but in the Middle East as well. Innocent people.
I can understand the amount of disgust you feel towards people who are out cheering in the streets because of the death of this man, but, again, I think you are truly missing the whole point behind this.
And take into consideration that US policy was "dead or alive" when it came to Bin Laden. Whether he came back dead or alive, people would still be celebrating like they are today. That's where your argument drops off; people are not as happy about his death as they are about the fact that he can't do anything anymore. Sure, the Taliban is still intact, but what plays out after this moment will either justify the "celebrations" taking place or make us to look out like idiots.
And it's not just Americans celebrating either. It's everybody who is serving in the Middle East in the war on terror.

People can be happy but they shouldn't be? So then what's the problem if they can?
You overestimate Americans I think.
