I am normally the one who posts a lot in the D3 forum and tries my best to make a giant number of threads to make discussion, sooo if you've been on this site long enough, you probably noticed that I have a trend lol.
I'd log on this site like 3 times daily and post to every single forum, and do this for 2 weeks, and then i'd probably not log on once for a week or 2. Its been about a month since i've posted, so I wanted to let you know what i've been up to.
I'm a senior planning to go to college (in florida) and to major in computer science. for past month i've been buying giant books about java and game development planning to learn something. SO in a years time, I hope to make my own website and make my own games, and then start more advanced games in 3d.
so far, i've only grasped the basics of Java, as well as some intermediate concepts, but i'm on my way. SO, I was wondering if anyone with knowledge about webdesign, HTML, programming in general, or Java has any tips, suggestions or books to recommend to me
I have:
- Java all-in-one desk reference for dummies (its actually a pretty good book lol)
-Thinking in java 4th edition
-Developing Games in Java
-fundamentals of game design
-Killer Game Programming in Java
I don't even know who you are, but regardless, you should study the stuff. There's a difference between reading books about it, and watching Youtube videos about it. Study it in university or whatever, get good in it, then you're well on your way.
There is no such thing. Java can maybe run some small games for your mobile phone, or some other apps, but no such thing as a "killer game". Try C++ if you are looking to make something advanced, or maybe Visual Basic if you want something in-between.
well, its a book title.
I don't expect to make more than simple 2d games in java. but i'm using this as my first "main" programming language.
but thanks for the input.

Two thoughts: Venom, that was epic, and you don't need to go to college to learn game programming. Many game programmers and programmers in general have no degree. It may help you, but it isn't necessary, and companies aren't too fancy-pancy about degrees for game programming as long as you can prove you know what you're doing and have a heart for it.
Java programming is a great place to start. You should also try Python; it's a high-level language, so it's fairly easy to pick up, and it's a lot more fun and simple than C++, so it's a good segue. Java is mostly for...well, everything but gaming. I *think* even as far as web games, Flash is the leader. Java does have a lot of uses, though. Basically all the software on phones these days is in Java (besides your Apple brands), if I recall correctly, and it's used for GPS's, etc.

any comments if you're a programmer or in computer software and have any comments or stories of how you learned.
-NOTE:i'm only half way through the book list (so far).

You just contradicted yourself.
