Let gay people get married why the fuck would i care goddamn it.
Do you ever feel like your posts are maybe like...not so great?
Anyway, it's kind of an issue I think that fifty years from now, we'll all be looking back and saying things like, "Remember when gays couldn't legally marry each other? How strange was that?"
I love you too dude. But seriously i dont see why gay marriage is such a big issue these days i mean jesus... If 2 people want to get married they should be totally able to, no matter what.
I'd be okay with it if they changed the legal marriage to something under a different name and allowed it for gays, then marriage would be a thing of the church only. Does that work?
No. The Church does not own marriage in any way. Just let it gay marriage be legalized and it'll be fine. This is why Christians should not be allowed into politics.
This is why Christians should not be allowed into politics.
Huh? Are you really going to go as far as to say Christian's shouldn't be allowed in politics? For one thing, many people who create and shape policy are religious anyway. And it's not like they're being elected on a platform of being a Christian. And just because they are Christians, that doesn't mean they can't just ignore the democratic process. They have to lobby and campaign to pass laws just like any secular politician would. You would've been more accurate to say a thing like, "We should be wary of religion's influence on public policy." But now you just sound as discriminate as someone who hates gay people because they're gay.
Anyway, it's kind of an issue I think that fifty years from now, we'll all be looking back and saying things like, "Remember when gays couldn't legally marry each other? How strange was that?"
Probably. The more I think of it from that angle, the more unconcerned I grow with it all.
But then who is able to say what's good and what's bad? We have the freedom to make good and bad choices, as do parents. I think it makes the people who make the right choice better by contrast than if they were just forced to teach and act and think the right way. Of course, I'm not saying what is right and wrong here, and what is right and wrong is entirely dependent on personal opinion and is relative to...everything.
It's always going to come down to what is right and what is wrong, though. That's just how our brains work in the end: true and false, black and white, zero and one on the most base level. Even if someone says that we should tolerate all walks of life, they would have to agree that they think intolerance of every walk of life is wrong.
Oh, I understand what your saying. But when you have a mother or a father teaching a child to hate black people, or to hate gay people, or to hate arabian people, or whatever, I think we can all agree that is wrong. I think the parent(s) have some form of responsibility to teach the child all of the facts and allow the child to make his/her decisions on where they stand or what they believe.
I mean, I guess that I think that Parents should teach Children facts, not opinions.

Exactly, so let them have ANOTHER legally binding bond, other than marriage. That's my point.
Here is an idea. Let's make Marriage have absolutely zero legal standing. None. Zip. Nadda. It can be just some religious crap. Then we can make a secular legally binding title for all legally binding couples. That way the religious could have their marriage, and the secular could have their legally binding contracts. This way, everyone is happy.
O.T. Why can you not reply to more then two people!?!?!?!? I wanna reply to both Seniri and Macros but can't freaking quote them! Grr!!!! I don't think I like IP.board...
Are black people allowed to get married, just like white people? 50 years ago did they have the same rights?
Stop treating gay people the same way those who came before us treated African people. Have *one* form of marriage that EVERYONE is allowed to do, no ifs ands or buts, the world will be a happier place. I personally can't wait until the generation of old religious fanatics that are currently in their 50's and 60's die off and leave us alone. There'd be less problems with priests refusing to marry gay couples.
Slaynoq, I think we have a little bit in common - I despise the very idea of marriage, a piece of paper doesn't mean I love my girlfriend any more than I do. However I understand that unfortunately it's a part of our society and one day I'm going to have to bite the bullet.
This is why Christians should not be allowed into politics.
I agree with that. Actually I do not know what Irrational really meant by it but since everybody is contemplating the statement in their own perspective, I shall do the same.
Any people who define themselves through their religion should not be allowed into politics.
The proof- Argentina becomes only the 10th country in the world to legalize gay marriage. The rest of the world is still discriminating against homosexuals and for what reason?
So you hate church the bible even but your somewhat christian do you even know what christian means it means christ like.....and since stupid mindless animals sometimes have sex with the same sex it makes being gay natural ok Dude
I said I understand why it all has to be on paper, only that I find it unfortunate.
I agree with this. There shouldn't be a 'marriage' like system involved in the government. Sadly, this is not the case, and I don't think this will ever be the case. It's too deeply rooted.
This is why Christians should not be allowed into politics.

It is religion.
This is why hardcore EVANGELIST Christians should not be allowed into politics. In general, normal Christian politicians make very sound choices with the people in mind. There are also many great Christian scientists out there. These are the people that I respect, but sadly, some people(Westboro) are just apeshit nuts about their beliefs.

Nekro, you then gotta ask yourself, why does religion discriminate against homosexuals. The people who created religion found homosexuality to be icky and disgusting. Religion is nothing more then the tool used by the people themselves against the march of equality. Religion will never change, but the hearts and minds of people can, and do, change.

Please differentiate between Christians who practice Christian Science (Attempting to prove things like Creationist "Science") and Christians who attempt to work on things like the String Theory. There are both, and the later of the two are my kind of people.

Was that sarcasm or irony? My next post suggested the exact same thing.
Hmm, niether, I must not of seen your other post. My apologies.
Getting bullied in school for having gay parents. Tell me that's not being hurt. That's not exactly a consecuence of gay marriage, but of gays adopting, and that has been legalized too.
If everyone looked at life like you do, nobody would bully them, but that's not the case. Kids can be very cruel. Change the mentality first, adjust the laws later.

The mentality takes much longer to change though. Look at the racism against African Americans in this nation. They are now free people, but they are still abused for the color of their skin. Some people don't change. Sometimes it takes generations for a nation to change. But this doesn't mean that we shouldn't adjust the laws in the mean time to help people have the same rights as everyone else.

This is from the same bank as "women get raped so they shouldn't get out at night", eh?
Blame, punish, and limit the perpetrator, never the victim.
As far as I'm aware, most of the initiators of school shootings in the US did not have gay parents. If people want to bully someone, they'll find a reason. You really won't get much out of trying to be diplomatic with them. You fear them, you let them affect your decisions, they'll just walk over you. You won't get any civil rights movements without the risk.
Bullying is a huge issue in schools, and it affects everyone, gay or not. It needs to be dealt with. It has nothing to do with mentality and everything with the fact that schools continually ignore their own bullying problems and kids are still regarded as something incapable of harm.
This is why Christians should not be allowed into politics.

I meant it in a way that decisions should not be made with religious beliefs being the only reasoning behind it. That is not only wrong, it is discrimination against people who do share the same religious beliefs as you.
This is why Christians should not be allowed into politics.
That's discrimination. You're a stone's throw away from an infraction.
Are you serious? The entire thread is discrimination and you single my post out as the only one to do so. Perhaps if you read my entire post you would understand that I was being sarcastic...

I meant what you said. Religion, in so many ways a good thing, is the road block in Politics. If you look at it logically, and not religiously, so many problems would be fixed. A simple "God said it" statement to back up your decision to make a law to discriminate against millions of people in the US is just disturbing.

I must agree with you (though the phrasing might have been unfortunate), religious beliefs shouldn't be the ONLY reason behind any law. Of course they should matter as those beliefs represent many people's beliefs, not only Christian obviously...

From what I have found when I was in schools is that the teachers, principals, faculty, etc, are similar to the police. The incident happens, the fight is over, etc, and then the school jumps to work. Very rarely do they ever act while something is happening.
That is one reason why I have always advocated a major overhaul of the schooling system, but with the hatred of the word "reform" right now in this society, I don't see it happening soon...

You can discriminate against some things on this forum, but not other things. Just be careful about what you say. <_<

I have nothing against people with different believes to be in politics, however their opinions should not be based on their religion or personal preferences.
There is this guy in my country named Geert Wilders at the moment has the 3rd biggest party and 9/10 of his statements are discriminating Muslims. It might be a bit extreme but you could compare him to Hitler.
Wow, dude that's fucked up. I'm as anti-religion as the next guy, but to actually discriminate? What is your nation??
You can discriminate against some things on this forum, but not other things. Just be careful about what you say.
Meh. Same case on this other forum I visit, discussing gays negatively is OK but you mention one negative word in front of some loose religious concept and you get a warning.
Can't say I expected it to happen here, though.
This is why Christians should not be allowed into politics.
Aside from the fact that that was a complete fail at flaming as I'm not a christian... seriously? Do you have any idea how many people are religious? How can you call it a democracy when their voice isn't heard?
Because I was really trying to make you feel bad when I said that. My main intention was to flame you and to hurt your Christian beliefs, which you aren't. That was my intention and you caught me.
AKA grow up.
But responding to your point, a democracy is made to make a decision based on POLITICAL reasons, not to force ones religious beliefs on another person. That's not democracy. That's discrimination.
