I know it's a very broad question, but my main concern is my D3 experience when it's released. I'm saving up for a new rig that will have no problem running D3, so my questions to all of the vast d3fans populous is this:
1. Should I wait another 6 months to buy my rig so that new hardware is released and prices drop?
2. What computer specs are now standard and expected for a smooth Diablo 3 gaming experience?
I would be building this thing from scratch so if someone is willing to help me out with a decent list and final price for parts I would be indebted.
Once I get home from work I'll throw together my list as well so people can scrutenise and sugest better alternatives.
well if your buying for D3 only or many games, cause D3 will be run relatively low specs... Maybe 1Gb of Ram needed and 512Mb Vid Card and a single core processor and prob 1-2Gb of HDD space. very low really. so techincally anything is good enough unless you get a Dx8 vid card.

It's gonna be low, but not that low. 2Gb of HDD space?? That's way too little. And 1Gb of RAM might be the minimum requirements, if it's not more. Remember that this game won't come out until 2011 at least.
If you want it just for D3, it's obviously better to wait till the prices drop, but you may want to play some games in the meantime. My brother is the one that does the PC building, I have very little clue about hardware. And you should name a price range, it really determines what kind of computer you can buy (dahh)
What is your budget?
What I suggest you do, is what I did.
I bought a refurbished Dell computer at a great discount from their website.
Make graphics card update, power supply, and ram if needed.
I spent almost $700 total, including shipping,taxes, 20' LCD, 9800 GTX+, and 600W power supply.
I have 8GB ram, Q6600 at 2.4GHz(can be OC to 3.2 with no additional cooling), and 64bit Vista OS. That was out of the box for around $350.
Although it was refurbished, any parts that were damaged were replaced, in my instance it was a scratch on the case. The computer came with a brand new case with no damage what so ever. All computers are tested before sold and have the same warranty as new ones...

i meant allt he minimum...the game will probably take up 2-5Gb.. Me personally im getting an alienware aurora at base 1299.99 Its core i7 at 2.66 3GB of Ram and a GTX260 and 500GB of HDD. I will upgrade to 2 5770's and 6-12 GB of ram.which should add on at least another 400 bucks. but still i did it for the looks of the case and because i want to play high games. Like crysis Dirt 2 Battleforge, the lower end games such as D3 Sc2 WoW and CS:S I'm looking for somethign that wll max out graphically all my games at 1920x1080 resolution. If your lookign to just play D3 go with like one of those Dell's for 500 go look at yahoo and search for the best computers under 500$ and they will show you some nice new computers that will most likely be able to run D3 maybe not maxed but certainly well. Right now our technology is beating our games out in that last years stuff still runs this years game at really high settings. This is because noones advancing their DX or graphic engines. Its all stuck at Dx9 or sometimes DX10 and the graphics just dont push the top of the line stuff. Therefore as all the new tech comes out it really ha nothing to drive just cause the games r getting older.

lets buy a new computer worth a total of less than $50
The game is probably working on DX9, a very common used DX in the game industry these days. So, you'll have to get an
Ati 3850 or higher
geforce 8 series or higher

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t...
If you're looking for a good build with decent upgrading potential, here's one a friend on my forums made.
The price to potential ratio is great. With more info on what you want, though, we could tailor one to what you really want versus price etc.

No doubt that's going to make a great computer but its almost a grand!
Indeed. That's why I'd need more info to make a good one tailored for someone. Plus, with technology the way it's going, this one would last a few years with minimal upgrades, if at all. If you just SLI'd another video card you'd be set even through D3.
In the computer world, a grand is a decent price; but I agree on your statement.

A refurbished anything wouldn't be as good as anything you put together yourself though.

System memory quantity is rarely an issue; aim for a sufficient quantity (~1GB) of quality memory.
Processor clock-speed is negligible; don't waste $50 on a 400MHz increase.
Invest in a quality motherboard; system bus bandwidth is a major bottleneck for games.
Any recent video-card will do, again, don't waste money on the latest greatest video card they're just placebo's for the most part.
A standard HDD will be fine; you can always use RAM-disk software, rather ad hoc, but it works.
As someone mentioned prior, although I'm aware you wont take this route; purchasing computers from vendors such as Alienware or Dell (of which Alienware is a subsidiary of) is a total waste of money.

The longer you can hold out the better/cheaper the rig will be.
