Beware before you read on because you MIGHT get offended.
So apparently, Nick aired some epic series which ended a year ago. Finally having the time and the patience, enough people convinced me to sit down and watch the entire thing. I borrow the seasons from my friends and I start to watch it all over a week long period.
Now the first thing I noticed is that it has a good plot and good twists and turns. Yes, it's kind of childish, but the plot kept me going.
Now, knowing Nickelodeon, I knew that somewhere, it would be ruined. So I prayed with all my Christianity skills so that the plot wouldn't be ruined.
By the way, if you don't know the series, some kid needs to save the earth from defeating this Fire Lord guy. <---- LOL
Anyway, I get to the series finale where I noticed it started to head to political correctness earlier that season. When the season finale started, I was treated to 1 hour of "I must not kill the Fire Lord!" and "IT'S WRONG!". And the other half of the finale was stupid fight scenes that featured too much talking and more political correctness.
So the point of this rant is to say this: "Why can't there be a single series that ends epic?!?!?!??!?!?! Lord of the Rings overdid it. This piece of crap underdid it. What happened to fighting over a pit of fire when the Earth is getting sucked up it's own ass behind you?"
This is why Im not a big series person. I like em in some movies but not on tv shows.

From the very beginning of Avatar you knew Aang wasn't the killing type. I didn't know HOW they were going to end it, but I knew the fire lord wasn't going to die.

Have you seen Six Feet Under? the ending of that series is probably one of my favorite that I have ever seen.
First off, Avatar is not a violent show. If you expected Aang to kill the fire lord than you only have yourself to blame.
Secondly, what wasn't epic. The fight between Aang and the firelord was amazing. The fight between Azula and Zuko was even better than that and Sokka's fight with the airships was crazy.
Thirdly, in my opinion, having your powers taken away from you would be way more humiliating to have happen. I loved the ending. Afterall, this isn't ninja scroll were are talking about. It is a childrens cartoon. Name any other children's cartoon that ends Hal as epic as Avatar.

On a more serious note, what I hate more is shows that kick off magnificently, but after 2 or 3 seasons, get really lame.
Like Lost. The first 2 seasons were awesome. The 3rd was good to say the least. The 4th is meh at best. I haven't seen the 5th yet, but my expectations aren't high.
Don't drag on a series for the sake of dragging it on. End it while it's still up there.

If you think that's epic that I can tell the only thing you watch are the season finales of Blue's Clues and Little Bear. Airships were stupid (too easy) and city battle was too easy as well. It was just stupid.
I know that no one is supposed to die, but in the entire series, people did die and it started to get dark and suspenseful. But where it most mattered, they screwed it up.
I think that, traditionally, kid's stories, shows, and so on that are in a fantasy light like this naturally turn dark as they progress. It's just how it goes because the writer's need to introduce more diverse and interesting things, and these things often need to test the moral fiber of the hero.
What I felt was that Nickelodeon was heading that way but, at last minute, felt that they wanted to be sure that it would be acceptable for children, and so they ended on a lighter note.
But, I am going to agree that it was a more abstract way of ending and I applaud them for stepping out of the norm of just killing the villain. The Fire Lord's only love was power, and so it is really only fitting that he loses it and has to live in a humbled and defeated state for the rest of his life. Depending on who you are, some things are worse than death.
