Watch it in HQ, and turn it up loud. Its more respectful to the filmmaker that way
The main character in this is actually meant to be my avatar character (though slightly different). If I were to go to Blizzcon, thats what I would wear.
This was my major assessment for this semester at uni. Even though it is one minute long, it took a lot of effort to make! My focus was on creating a good visual design, including set and costumes. I mostly achieved what I was aiming for, though a lot of detail was missed. For instance, Lenore's dress actually has like a cool feathered sash down one front-side, but you can't see it at all. And that fountain thing in the middle of the table is actually a working blood-fountain, but again you can't see it.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, `Lenore!'
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, `Lenore!'
Merely this and nothing more.
Thanks guys. Honest critical feedback is appreciated too.
And yes, I directed, did art department, made/chose wardrobe, lighted, and edited it. The only thing I didn't do was operate the camera or push/pull the dolly. But I also had generalised help from my friends in all areas.
Edit: Heh yeah, the amateur feeling is hard to shake off. Needs better camera equipment and more practice.
Yeah, we use Avid but some people have their own Final Cut and prefer to use that. I have premier elements on my computer but it does not export well at all. Ohhh I haven't used combustion or any 3d editing software, sounds fun! We only recently got taught After Effects (in which someone was able to make their actor's head explode, it was really cool). Annd we also briefly got taught Pro Tools. Both were helpful, though I didn't really use them to their full potential at all.
No they aren't actual branches, I made them out of wire and plaster bandages, then painted them with ink. Surprisingly effective. And yeah, its a shame they were hidden so much in the darkness. They would have shown up better if they were white or if the room was brighter, but the whole point was for it to be darkness. White branches might have seemed out of place. Or I could have had some sort of close up shot of them. But nah, I'm happy with it. The branches aren't really important to the story, and so the only point of showing them in a close up would be to show them to the audience, and thats bad storytelling. Though it could have worked if the branches were actually doing something, like leaking blood or growing, but they weren't.
Remember too thats its meant to be experimental. We got marked down if we did anything conventional, including linear obvious plotlines and sync dialogue. We could have dialogue, but we just couldn't have any that was in sync with character's mouth movements. So the character could be offscreen, or we could change the voice of the speaker entirely (eg. giving a little girl a man's voice).
Here are some photos:
Thats what the room actually looked like while filming. Massive colour alterations in post
Eh, kinda seems less impressive when you see these photos.
And grrrrr - I hate that I can't see pics or vids at work - I have to wait until I get home and sometimes I forget about them.:(

Are you kidding, I agree with Goodguy - you did an awesome job postproduction.
(I finally got to look at the pics.)

PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Also, without any description whatsoever, it's impossible to tell what the plot is, even after watching the movie.
Cool vibe though. Not a huge fan of guyliner.

Probably one of the best amateur videos I've seen. It didn't have that "oh no a amateur video" feeling for me that I usually get.
Very nice.
