Hey I was thinking or I've been thinking since I was like 12 years old that I could start up an unofficial business for PC repairs when I get my drivers license (which should be in a couple months or whenever I get the chance). I was thinking of how I would price repairs. I had a couple ideas and I ended up thinking of an hourly rate module. I think I'm gonna settle with 30$ an hour not to low not to high. Then I got to thinking what if for example I'm installing an operating system for a client which usually takes an hour to install how would that be fair to my client/customer to charge them an extra 30$ to sit on my ass for an hour?
I'm just wondering how that works out and what would be fair. You guys have any ideas?
Also all I have is a GED I don't have any certificates or a college degree (but i'm going to college right now for a Computer Science degree) is that against the law to work on peoples computers without certification? My mom just started up a pool business and she isn't certified so I'm assumeing that it isn't against the law. Another question how do I get up like small little computer repair business (just working from inside my home or going to peoples houses) legally? I don't think theres an illegal way of doing it as kids go around mowing peoples lawn and I always go around fixing computer for free so why can't I do it for money?
Thanks!
p.s. (yea you can tell I don't know anything about business lol)

You don't need to be certified, and technically, it's illegal since you are operating a business without a license and aren't paying taxes. Either way, you will find it difficult to get business simply because you have no certification. You don't need it, but it helps.
$30 bucks an hour is a little high in your case.
I'm going to do the same thing actually, and my business model involves undercutting everyone by 10%. If someones else charges $100, you do it for $90. If someone else charges $20 an hour, you do it for $18. That's just me though, you can do whatever you want.
it is not illegal. Taxes do not have to be paid until you make so much income. i made the same type of buisness when i turned 16. first thing, pricing should be different than the big companies. for example, dont charge per hour. charge based on ur knoweldge and difficulty of the problem. Y? becuase the people who get off easy and cheap, will refer you. if they have to pay a lot, theyll say screw it, HP will fix it. also, i cant tell u who i use,, but find some software that u can use to legally operate someones computer from urs, while it asks them permission at every step, and they can cancel it whenever they want. Also, ull need a website, and probably some good forums. the hardest part will be advertising. GOOD LUCK.
edit: the legal way is to log EVERYTHING. make receipts and everything. that way, if the IRS comes knocking, you can pay any back tax. also, working out of ur home is a major turn off to most. especially because ur so young. also, you can get ur A+ cert pretty cheap. easy tests too, but thats all lvl 1-3 ITs are required to have. (in most companies [HP, GeekSquad, Ex- Firedog, Dell etc....,,,..,.,.,.]
not all income is taxed. Mine wasnt until i made 10,000$. it depends on the state i guess. and you only need a buisness license to have employees, or when u start making money that they tax. If u want to go to peoples homes to fix their pcs, id get a buisness license, and the A+ cert.... at least.

So yes, you would be doing it illegally. Will you get in trouble? Probably not.
