Anyone else excited for this movie? http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/watchmen/
It has Billy Crudup who's one of my favorite actors. And it just looks incredible. I think I hope to read the comic book of it before it comes out in theaters.
Yeah I am excited about that movie. I never read the graphic novels or comic books. I was in the theater about a year ago and saw the preview for it. As soon as the movie ended I said "I can't wait until that Watchmen movie comes out."
I don't intend to read anything about it. I think it will be cool to see the movie not knowing what to expect at all. The preview was enough to get me wanting to watch it and I didn't glean very much information out of it.

The blind mind's eye replies with a sigh and a tear of contempt for those who see the world as it truly is.
This movie looks awesome. I haven't read the comics or anything about it. I think I first saw this preview when Tropic Thunder came out and I was amazed..
Bought the graphic novel about a month ago. I love Alan Moore's work. He also did V for Vendetta (and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but that one was better as the book).
I really like watchmen, it should be interesting to see how it turns out as a movie, what gets left out what gets added, and will it retain the same feel as the book. V for Vendetta was quite different as a movie. In the movie it was clear V was a good guy, whereas in the novel he is an anti-hero. He is not the villain yet neither is he a man who does the right thing, he does a lot of bad things in the novel that got left out or changed in the movie.
I like the character of Rorschach in the novel version of Watchmen. so yeah it will be interesting to see what they have done with him in the movie. Which I think comes out here May 5th. Boo. That's too long.

Frankly, I'm not impressed by the trailer much... I think slo-mo in movies should be outlawed.
The problem with comic movies is that they have too much comic and the sense of it all kinda dissipates, since we really don't have any watchmen watching over anybody so what exactly is the point they're trying to make? Maybe the movie will explain that.
some of the costumes look pretty lame though imo, but this movie should be awesome.
Their costumes almost seem satirical of typical comic book heroes. It's almost as if they're supposed to look kind of lame. Or at least look like they all came from the 1950's.

That's kind of 300's fault in my opinion. Slow mo wasn't that bad really before all these 300 fanboys starting shooting their sticky wads all over and high fiving each other over the over stylized battle scenes. With any luck, maybe they will have cut it down more in this movie. Not that I expect to see quite as much action in this than in 300.

I don't know a lot about the story except that it's based on an alternate reality where the U.S. actually won the Vietnam War and Nixon was never involved in the Watergate scandal, etc. Well, that's the setting anyway, not the plot. But all I know is I usually hate comic book movies, but I have high hopes for this one. And you know, Billy Crudup.
Well, I've just gotten the Watchmen comics and installed Comix (a Linux comic reader), so I'll at least read up on them. I've enjoyed certain comics, so regardless of the quality of the movie, this is a nice followup, because I haven't heard of Watchmen before until I saw a thread about the movie on iXBT forums. Although, I did see the yellow smiley face with the bloody arrow quite frequently...
Incredibles had super heroes going into hiding to avoid law suits from people who didn't want to get saved. Until some villian turns up and forces them out of retirement
Watchmen has a super heroes, retired ones, getting killed, but only a few people know that they were super heroes. Police ass it off as some thug getting whacked. No one really retires in Watchmen to avoid anything and one guy doesn't retire. He leaves a "Never" sign on a multiple rapist that he dumped outside a Police HQ (after breaking the rapists face in). And several superheores end up working for the government making bombs and doing other jobs.

Well, I finished the comic. Great stuff. Loved the ending. The first time someone actually does it right. I was quite scared they'd screw it up with some lousy moral as they always do...
Agreed. Dark tone (and custumes) is fine, so long as the story, and the ending is intact. Can't say I was expecting it to end quite like that.
It's got the 300 guy on it, he kept almost all of the 300 story intact, and just added some stuff in the middle, but left the ending the way it was. So hopefully that is what he does.

It does yes, but that wasn't what I was talking about.
I was speaking of Robert Zemekis' keeping the story intact, regardless of any thing else he added. Assuming this trend as well as the slow motion thing is repeated I won't be as disappointed. I don't think the slow motion thing is needed, I doubt it will add any real value.

Sometimes I drink a little beer, sometimes I make a little mess, sometimes I get a little angry, sometimes I kick your middle ass!!!!
I'm really excited to see this, but kind of scared they'll screw it up somehow. I hate to be the pretentious "You gotta read the book" guy that I had to be with Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

EDIT: Not really happy with the design the movie seems to be heading towards. Night Owl II was supposed to be this sort of safe-looking guy, and here he looks like Wolverine, for God's sake. He's also brown/white depending on the situation. And the wings? Where did the wings go???
Ozymandias was supposed to be YELLOW. I mean: http://www.watchmencomicmovie.com/photos/030608-ozymandias-big.jpg
He looks like Robin now.
And Silk Spectre is needlessly oversexed.

Her hair is totally different. She just looks like the other kind of person...
The director or whoever made those is missing the point.
The other chars are more or less OK... but it seems as if they want to make it darker or something.
Oh well, as long as they leave the ending alone...
