I realize this is a little old but the news that Starcraft II would be released as a trilogy
( http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/55267 ) scares me and excites me at the same time. (stay tuned as to how this effects D3)
Why is starcraft all of a sudden being split in three parts?
Why wasn't this revealed a year ago?
Is Blizzard feeling the pressure of Fan outcry to release?
Do they not have enough time on their hands?
Or are the campaigns to large for a single DvD?
You know what I think?
I think D3 is closer to release than we think.
Think about it.
How well would starcraft fans take it if DIII is released before starcraft?
And how long would diablofans have to wait until starcraft 2 is finally released so we can get ours?
Simple.
Blizzard realizes the setup in Starcraft is of such a nature (campaigns rather than Acts) and
banks on it. Making more money in the process of releasing it as a trilogy. Bold move.
Giving D3 a chance to move it's release a bit back.
Given all we know, D3 has been in production for a long time!
And blizzards hush-hush policy on release dates may be opening it's doors to us now.
...Then again, blizzard may just be cashing in on an already fat cash cow.
And Blizzard has never, ever, ever, felt pressure of fan outcry to release. They have so much $$$ to make these games, that's why they never have a deadline. Their famous answer is, "when it's ready."
Hellgate London failed because of the deadline they had, which is why it had so many bugs at launch. That and the game sucked to begin with (Level 60 blademaster, though :D).

100% true.
Other game companies sign a contract with the publisher, publisher gives them money and expects the game to be done at a certain date so they can cash in their investment. Blizzard can spend infinite amounts of money and time and they don't have to answer to anyone because they fund their own efforts. Above all, its in their interest to not release a game unless they believe they achieved perfection.. They would rather scrape and cancel a project unless it meets its full potential, then release it at any stage.
Blizzard does not usually care aboutfan pressure regarding release dates- they've seen it all before. They're most likely doing this to cash in on Starcraft II - and honestly- its a brilliant move from a business perspective- a great way to cash in on an RTS.
However, its not entirely impossible that they see Diablo III being closer to getting finished than Starcraft II considering that they want the Zerg and Protoss campaigns to measure upto the Terran. Especially when SC II is finished from a multiplayer perspective and the terran campaign almost done- why hold it off any longer?
Again- I strongly feel we'll see SC II's first Installment within the first quarter of 2009 and Diablo III ready by the summer of 2009 possibly June or July.
yeah guys put it into perspective a litle bit liek this... starcraft two is going to be released sooner id say anywhere fromm january to june(i know its a broad range) this is because they are nearly finished they have the time and it looks great.... second diablo 3still has 2 unrevealed classes...uhm lets see two unreleased clsses + two more big events hosted by blizzard= two announcments.. WWI 09 will reveal 4th class i believe and Blizzcon 09 willr elease the release date nd fifth class then we get to wait until like december 23rd for the release date (Late 2009 )

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Seems like there has been a lot more dissappointment over the news of the SC thing and the skill point thing in diablo this Blizzcon rather than excitement.
I myself have decided to stop following the progress of Starcraft due to this news.
I am still in it for D3 but there are valid concerns regarding the low polygon counts in the characters. Think about it. In 1 - 2 years when its released those graphics are going to be ancient (They are already outdated.
I have faith in Blizz but I have a little less after that SC news.
People are seriously overreacting to this Starcraft II news. From what it sounds like, if you buy one version of SC2, you will be able to have full access to multiplayer. The other 2 campaigns... we don't even know how much they will cost at this point, people need to just calm down. Call it a move to make more money or whatever you want, I'd rather play an epic campaign than a small one.

whats funny about you saying the graphics are ancient, diablo 2 and starcraft still look good, tolerable enough to play, they have lasted so long. sc2 and d3 will do the same, and you know it =P.
IMagine how much money they would make if they released SCII and D3 on the SAME DAY!!!! It would be a dream come true

I read somewhere that they are competing heads up with the dawn of war 2 team for rts supremacy.
