I went to irc.gamesurge.net - through mIRC - which I use to chat on - I went to ensure My name Aphrodite remained mine. Some bitch took it, and I confronted her. I had to make the name x_Aphrodite_x = ON: gamesurge.net - If you should see a Aphrodite there. She is NOT me, and she is NOT the original Aphrodite - who IS me.
This is a warning to those of you that ARE my friends, or at least acquaintances. I am not too free with my friendships, so you know who you be. I am NOT pleased at all.

Worshiped throughout Greece, she was the goddess of love, marriage, and family life; she was also worshiped as a war goddess, as a Sparta, and as a sea goddess and patroness of sailors.

I hate to tell you this, friends and neighbors, but we are teensy-weensy implications in an enormous implication. If you don't like it here, why don't you go back to where you came from?

Kiss more ass.
Aphrodite, I've never had a problem with you, and I don't want problems. I'll confront any imposters, but your post was pretty egotastic, and seems absolutely shallow.
Aphrodite is the name of the Greek Goddess for love, lust, and beauty. Is it at all possible another girl out there likes the name and assumed no one else had it so she used it?

There is nothing wrong with being or wanting to be synonymous with a name, phrase or image.
For a the longest time I used this image as my Avatar here.
I had used it so long, people began to see me as that face. While most thought nothing of it at the time, or at all, there was a slight kerfuffle when a user on some other website used the same image as an avatar, some people thought I was that user. I was not.
I had become so identifiable with the image, that everytime someone saw the image they thought of me.
It's the same here. When ever I see the name Aphrodite, of course I think of the Goddess from myths and legends, but I also think of this user, as she is my good friend.

whenever i hear the name Aphrodite i think of a girl i went to school with on highschool (i'm greek so its not that uncommon here :P)
dont worry about having your online nickname picked by someone else, if you were talking with people that found you interesting you'll keep in touch anyway. I know it can be frustrating at fist but you get used to it. To people i consider friends, even if i met them online i tend to use my real name. Thats who I am after all, as many similarities as i (want to) have with ancient gods or heroes

woot 2000th post!

i dont know where you got the quote on your signature, but thats not too accurate.
talking mostly about:
a) how your sig says she was worshipped as a War-Godess. She was more a reason for war (as in acts of love or jealousy). She was married to Ares, the one and only War God.
sea godess and patroness of sailors. That was the job of Poseidon, that also lived within the waters of the Aegean. Whenever the ancient greeks wished for a good sea travel they had sacrifices to Poseidon (for the water) and Apollo (to send winds to their sails).

Never ceases to amaze me how mean women are to one another.
Might I humbly ask A) why this is in the Introduction forums and why two moderators and an admin have posted and yet to move this thread to a more proper place?
Also, Aphrodite, I too believed once that I was the only person to think of the name LinkX. I then came accross another LinkX, and found that while yes we can be imaginative and come up with names like LinkX and Aphrodite, others can as well, and we should respect those that have equal imaginations as ourselves to come up with the names that we do.
But in my defense, I thought this was a new member introducing themselves.
No need for defense, I had simply wondered why.
And I too had believed that she was a new member the first time I saw her post. I believe I have seen four, maybe five of her posts sense I first joined last year. Obviously, with all due respect to Aphrodite, she posts infrequently, which would explain you're position.

I thought she was married to Hephaestus, and that his intense repulsive repugnancy contrasted her beauty?

I really wanted to say something much more sarcastic, because I agree with you, but I thought you guys would freak out at me.

bah, i remembered the gossips and not the actual fact, lol!
You're totally right, she was married to Hephaestus and cheated on him with Ares. Hephaestus chained Ares on the bed after finding out
Still to get back to the topic of this thread. I do feel her pain (to an extent), I hate seeing someone else with something that I have spend a long time trying to associate with me personally, on the odd occasion it does lead to mistaken identity.
When we had avatars here, how many times have people here saw this image and thought of me.
If Aphrodite wishes to be identified with a concept, image, or person then I do not see why she shouldn't or couldn't.
It's somewhat useful for visualisation, well, to a point. Most of you exist to me as mere lines of text and the handful of images you use as avatars and signatures. It is these things I use to gauge some sort of image f what you look like. Even if your images are of someone else or some exaggerated scenario or concept it still helps.
Also more to the point of this thread. If I see the name Aphrodite I want to know I talking to the right person, my friend, and not some random person I don't know.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

But you have to remember, anger breeds only anger, yet love breeds more love.
Yes, people are ignorant, but that is no reason to become upset, we must nurture each other and help each other grow as human beings.
