I was thinking of builiding a new computer but i want to know what are the best hardware to get for it.....
sorry if this sounds wierd. but
could you please tell me about your hardware and tell me how your games run on it? i will need this information to decide which is the best processor (i dont really care about the motherboard right now, nor soundsytem and hard drive..... plus the VCA)
i am thinking about getting a quad core processor but most games dont even need it or in fact dont even use all four cores... and plus its almost 2 times more expensive than dual processors....
so could you please help me with the decision?
should i get a quad in 2 months but reap the benefeits in the future or
should i get a dual tomorrow but be in complete mystery of the future?
When it comes to gaming, your videocard is more important than your processor. While both need to be better than junk, most all slowdown in games is based on the graphical side, which is handled solely by the graphics chip, and not the cpu.
Within the next couple years, game developers will move to parallel programming making use of all cores available. While there are very very few games out now that do, expect most to within 3 years. ID, helmed by genius Carmack, has stated that their new engine (IDTech 5) already makes use of 4 cores.
Really, its a price thing. Get the best you can afford.
alright with the quad core do you think i should get AMD or Intel... im not sure if it really matters but hey building a good rig needs to be taken seriously...
and tell me what do you think would be able to play... lets say...um asassains creed at full detail??
oh yeah and can someone tell me why xp needs less ram then vista?
like krow said.... only 2gigs for xp.... 4 for vista...
As of now, Intel has better hardware. If I were building a system today, I'd go with either a Q6600/Q9450 and an AMD HD4870. Not the cheapest, but a very nice combo. Everything else is pretty much up to you.
Vista requires more memory because at any given time, there are more intensive processes running. These are both visual and background. I'd go with 2GB of memory for XP or 4GB for Vista.
an intel 2 quad Q9550 with 2.83 ghz
a 750W power supply Quad SLI ready
a silent cpu fan and heatsink
750i SLI Chipset w/7.1 Sound mother board
4 gigs of ddr2-800-ram sticks
ATI Radeon HD 4870 512mb PCI-express x16 VCA
Im still thinking if i should get a 500gig hdd or a 720hdd... but most likely going to get 720gig
A 20x dual format double layer CD/DVD drive
a standard 3d sound card
basic network card
and its all for $1,200 dollars.... make a big whole in my wallet.... but hey a couple 40 hour weeks working at Mcdonalds and bam my moneys back....
please all you professional computer genius's tell me how this looks... for i am only a novice computer genius....and wish to learn more about building an awesome computer....

sounds good but like you said yourself, 4 cores are not going to be utilized on most games. Go for a E8500, or 8400 and spend the money you save on a good samsung monitor. also, don't forget to consider the rpm speed of your HDD. (7200rpm or higher should be plenty especially 2 in raid 0)

I don't think they even sell below 7200 rpm drives for desktops.
Also, don't worry about raid. It's more of a hassle than anything.

well i am one of those guys who opens 100 windows and does 80 tasks at a time.... thats kinda why i wanted a quad core.....but on a 64bit windows vista do you think that a dual core will be able to comprehend a lot of taks and still have room to play a game at high settings??
An overclocked Q6600 to even 2.6 GHZ will run games without a hassle. And when games allow quad core processors, it'll do even better. The price drop (around 40$) on the Q6600 makes it even more appealing.

even though i can build one by myself i really dont want to go through the hassle...
could you guys tell me the perfect setup (using the computer builder link posted above) for my new computer...
i just want to get down to the most specific details....
When someone builds a computer for you, they charge a ridiculous amount of money for it. I'm 13 and have built two computers just fine, it's really easy. If you're confused, just go on Google and find information on a certain part you need.

I was thinking about an ASUS SLI board with an nVidia chipset and an AMD+ (or better) processor socket - whatever it takes to run a quad core (socket F, perhaps?) - and adding (along with the standard items) two identical state-of-the-art nVidia video cards.
Krow is right though, there would need to be a heavy investment in cooling the machine. A good water-cooled system is expensive, but I've been told it's worth the cost.
I've built four systems already and I have always started with the mobo/proc bundle and built the remainder from there. Of course, I always had 2 to 4 different video cards in mind while deciding on the board and processor. From previous experience, almost everything else but the power supply and cooling systems are macht nicht. I've already been looking at new parts, sifting through sites that do benchmark testing, and going through forums to find out what any current users have to say about the products.
I tend to go state-of-the-art when building because the system doesn't become obsolete so quickly.

E8400 for dual core.
Overclocked Q6600 for Quad. I'd go with the quad.
8800gt ideal choice. Might want to SLI in the future. If you've got the money get the 4870.
2GB for XP 4GB for Vista. Don't need DDR3.
Invest in cooling.
