Was it big enough to REALLY engulf the entire world? THAT is certainly debatable. But to say that because it didnt engulf the WHOLE thing then it must not be true is silly. Dont look at it as absolute. Jesus christ give it a break its thousands of years old there is room for a little scientific error.
Daemaro i think you misread ma dude.... Try geting a bible not the king james version so it will be more understandable. Forcing yourself to read it in that language has LITERALLY no point to it. Its not how it was originally written, just how it was written in that version.
God's flood then destroyed all life on earth
How would that happen if it didn't flood the entire world? At best it was some dude that hopped on his boat sitting in the Tigris or Euphrates when a flood came and washed him out to sea. Its just a blown up story, like all the stories in the bible. People should think of the bible as a story book with moral lessons, and not really take anything it says literally. The bible in its current state is a translation of a translation of an oral tradition. It has probably lost alot of its original meaning.Which means, unless the translators where divinley inspired, that it is not the true word of god, even if it was at one time. That being said, I do believe in god. He is the singularity. The creator of all things. We are a part of him even when we die. I think when we die time speeds up until your matter comes to life as another being then you are rebirthed into this world, you might be a worm, you might be a blade of grass but thanks to the food chain you might work your way up to human, eventually. Thats my own twisted take on the afterlife. But who says sunbathing as a blade of grass would be a bad thing? You would know nothing from your past life so you would know no better.
Sorry I'm a little high right now
Two question about atheism:
Does atheism count as a 'religion'? Or... 'belief'?
Theres no god in Buddhism, but theres the belief of reincarnation. So whats the stance of atheism against Buddhism?
Atheism is when one denies the existance of God and any religions related to the deity. As for Buddhism, Atheists have no reason to touch the religion, since it doesn't pertain to God whatsoever.
I'm pretty sure Atheism is the disbelief of religion all together.
If an atheist doesn't believe in God but believes in some other form of magical creation that would make him a pagan wouldn't it?
No, if you look in the dictinary or dictionary.com, Athiesm is just the disbelief of God altogether, many people mix this up with the concept of religion entirely, since Christianity is the major religion in the world today.
Firsty, Atheism has been ruled a religion by the Seventh US Circuit Court. So legally Atheism is a religion!
To murderface, i have no doubt that the flood story was blown out of proportions, but I dont think that has any effect on whether it happened or not. The world(i.e. population and country occupancy) was a lot smaller back then so a flood of say....only Mesopotamia or something would constitute as the entire world for them.
But regardless i have no doubt there was a TREMENDOUS flood by anyones standards because sooo many cultures have flood stories.

I'm not really an atheist, I just don't believe in things that don't exist it's all a matter of perspective and interpretation.
People who blindly believe in God are too often just repeating the exact same speculations in the exact same way the guys before them did. They are plain boring and uncreative.

But people who dont believe just because they cant see it are even more boring and have no creativity if they cant imagine. Atheism is boring to me, even if i didn't believe in a particular god i still wouldn't say one doesn't exist because it's a bit arrogant for any human and its just boring to think that this is it, i think many of those that do believe do so because something inside them wants there to be more and want that thought that things could actually be pretty epic, those people are creative

Seriously though, what in the hells do you mean with 'boring'?
Truth is (almost?) always more boring than fantasy.

It's all a matter of making the difference between dreams and reality. You see there's the world outside your brain and the world inside. There's what you see with your eyes and what you see with your mind.
There are situations and circumstances where you want to believe in what you see like when you deal with your everyday problems, and there are times where you have to understand who you are and create what you believe in to give yourself a purpose and motivations.
My problem with people who believe in God is that they didn't create anything they're just repeating what the generation before them did. They believe in God because that's the only thing they've ever heard of.
Beliefs shouldn't be something stagnant, but something constantly evolving and that's what religions try to kill.
I love science because it's the only sincere religion, there's no good or wrong answer it all depends on the frame of reference.
The only way to make sense in this world is to live without rules

Your argument holds little weight because of your clear bias and constant stereotyping of religion.
And in regards to outside and inside world. It is all relative to the person. The mind can make the eyes see. Many times they are not different, but rather the same. The brain makes the eyes see, so in result the brain can control what the mind sees. Perspectives can all be different and all be right to that particular person. For some there is no difference between what they see and what their mind sees. And if a god does not exist then if you believe in a god and to you he exists then he exists to YOU. Because without a particular meaning to life you make your own meaning, and if that means making a god real to you then so be it, nobody can tell you different if there is no set standard to define reality other than another humans words.

Actually, the standard is science? Every principle, aspect, rule, law, of science is backed up by a series of steps. Steps that can be repeated over and over again in the exact way it was first done. Now compare this to the Bible or the 'Flood' as the thread has seemed to turn.
Can we build boats that can carry 2 beings of every living species known on Earth? Can we even gather 2 beings of every lving species known on Earth?
No we can't. Even if we could, there would still be a problem of somehow making all the species interact in a peaceful way AKA Lions not eating Elephants.

your thinking is flawed. You use a negative to cancel out what you already assume a negative. IF the story did happen and there was a god, then anything would be possible. But your mindset is that a god doesnt exist so it would be impossible.
I dont understand why soo much faith is put on science when it fails soo much. There is so much that they fail to explain. Everytime i watch the history channel and there is something being discussed about evolution at least one time a scientist admits that he doesnt know and there would be no real way to solve such n such problem. Ive accepted flaws in religion but nobody has the balls to try and look at the multitudes of flaws within science, but hey, science is whats popular atm so most everyone will follow blindly like a bad religion.

But as for linkx...that is what starts flame wars. You piss off people that actually read the bible with ignorant ass comments without knowing what your talking about.
Quote from "Bible" »
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.
It starts flame wars because it's true and people don't want to accept the truth. The Good Book is down right sick in my opinion.
Quote from "Daemaro" »
Okay which religion has belief there is no God? I can't think of one off of the top of my head.
Doesn't Witchcraft believe in the elements instead of Gods? (LinkX would probably know)
So by your definition someone who practiced Witchcraft (or another religion that doesn't involve a god) are atheist?
That doesn't sound right.
Witchcraft is not a religion. Witchcraft can be practiced by anybody who's religion says they can practice it. It's like Football or WoW. You don't even have to be in a religion to practice Witchcraft.
Druidry, Wicca, Astru, those are different subjects.
Oh, and lumping all Pagan religions together is like lumping Islam, Christianity, and Judaism together because "They have similar beliefs".
Quote from "Kenzai" »
LOL yeah, the Noah 'tale' or what you call it seemed to me always like a childish story with all those happy animals gathered on one big ship.
I dont want to sound like an a**hole, im serious.
It is believed the Noah story is based on a flood in the Iraq area (Can't remember the name of the river.) The flood always happens, it has to to replenish the fields, but one year it was especially bad. Well, this wealthy merchant gathered up his wares and comendeered a small boat and road the flood down. He then got off and offered a thankyou to whoever his god was.
I talk alot of shit, but behind all the shit, I really know what I am talking about...
The bible does not give our existence justice. Its so easy just to say, this guy named god made everything and thats all you need to know. Our creation was much more fascinating than that. To think that we evolved from tiny one celled organisms, in a vast ocean, on a giant rock, the perfect distance from an explosion controlled by its own gravitational pull, revolving around a mass so great that it rips the very boundaries of time and space, that is only one in a sea of its kind, into a creature that can actually figure out this statement is beyond any story in the bible. Your argument is that we don't know god doesn't exist. Our argument is that the bible was created by beings incapable of knowing the truth that lies beyond the heavens. Why do you need someone elses beleifs to believe in a god? Why cant god just be all the things that made our existence possible?

Science is one of the major aspects of education today. We use it to advance our society (technology). As you have stated, science is indeed flawed. But the only flaws to science is what we don't know currently. Unlike the Bible which is flawed over many generations that it's not even the Bible.
Science: Flawed on what we don't know Bible: Flawed on what we don't know and do know
Bible is flawed in both ways where Science is flawed in only one, making science the winner on fact from fiction.
