It seems that the thread I necro'd was in the wrong section, so I guess I'll make one in the right.
Does anyone know a really graphic and plain old nasty horror movie that could possibly make someone cry, and doesn't have anything to do with baby sitting. Thank you :).
The Thing is a good one. It was made in 1982 but its still really gruesome and interesting. The beginning is funny too:D
Ohh, I've always wanted to see that, but older movies used to turn me off, until I started watching them. Anyone else have some good ideas? Having some people over and need at least two movies. A nice zombie movie would be nice, not "Night of the Living Dead" please, because these people couldn't stand something like that.
BTW, is "The Thing" dark, like in terms of the atmosphere? I love movies like that, with very little light, and creepy things everywhere.

Yea its pretty dark, its located (i think) in Antarctica, so isolated, cold, and their encampment is kinda creepy when covered in blood and guts
The Thing is good choice. Les Diaboliques, The Vanishing... and a pretty recent one, Dead Man's Shoes. All of these have a deep plot which unfortunately most recent horror movies lack--plus the blood & guts you asked for
Candy Man 1 and 2 weren't too bad. Not like the mass produced crap like Texas Chain saw Massacre 4 (or was it 5 or 6) and Friday the 13th... uh part 13 or was it 11, Freddy Vs. Jason came out after Jason X (FTT: X) so that would make it part XI. And you can lump Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street in that group too. Far too many movies, it sort of looses it's effect.
I much prefer the smaller series or the stand alone ones.
The Thing was awesome, still is.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

The ring and all those are dumb. I was a little squirmy, but seeing that movie was mostly for fun of screaming rather than actually being scared. Chucky and freddy scared me when i was a child, now they are just comedic gold.

I recently watched a movie called REC from Spain (I believe). It's in Spanish so if you don't mind reading subtitles and you manage to get your hands on it you should definitely check it out. It starts off a little slow but builds atmosphere well and has some good scary moments. One of the best zombie movies ever made in my opinion. 28 Weeks Later, was also quite good, I liked it alot more than 28 Days later(I was laughing during most of it). Lastly, you may want to check out Jacob's Ladder its possibly the scariest movie I've ever seen, and I've seen my fair share.

Don't try to be a great man, just be a man... and let history make its own judgment. -Zefram Cochrane, Star Trek
the movies that people suggested that I have watched and KNOW are good:
*"the fly" and the "fly 2". Epic movies, very cool, and the fly 2 doesnt suck as most part 2 movies do
*the devil's rejects" not so much scary, but great plot and entertaining, nice gore too. def must watch
*cube" also great, more of a suspense-horror, very unique movie
tale's from the crypt tv series are always good too..but yeah..haven't found any other good horror movies really :/.....I can guarantee you will enjoy the movies I suggested
PS: I always wanted to watch "the thing" too...gonna give that one a try
i think asian horror films are really scary because they seem so possible. and they all have some moral reasons too to balance out the fear. otherwise i though silent hill was really scary.

And I'll back up The Fly and The Thing. Not a big fan of the Thing, though, but it's OK.
