warcraft wasn't always embarrassing to look at, though how they went from THIS to THIS
I have no idea.. well actually I kind of do, they found out what appealed to girls and the pokemon crowd and capitalized.
It's good, actually, until WoW came along and flushed all the traces of the remaining story down the toilet. The whole Warcraft universe is a huge joke now.
Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say. Flagship tried to force HG:L down our throats with a ton of viral marketing and stupid crap, but Diablo fans rose up and let out a collective "NO!" and this is the result. Thank God. And to the people that are still in love with the original devs, have you ever heard the story of John Romero?

John Romero devoted years of his life to Daikatana, when colleagues, family and friends told him it wasn't worth it and the game was a total piece of crap and it was like seven years in the making.
Blizzard North, on the other hand. Made two hugely successful games and an expansion pack for one of them.
Well if they hadn't revolted from Blizzard rule the first place we'd have seen D3 a LOT earlier. And without the Barbarian class, which would have been good because the idea of having all-new classes from game to game adds more uniqueness to each.
Personally I do like the barbarian very much, but I'd have liked something totally new even better. The transition from D1 to D2's classes was amazing. We'll have to wait for more info if the same holds true for our beloved D3 as well.

Actually HG:L was really promising. The bad thing was it was rushed and shipped in a state I'd dare to call 50% done. Thing is, they REALLY thought that they could do such a project without Blizzard's patting hand on their shoulders (by patting hand and shoulders I mean millions of dollars). Too bad they didn't see the faults of their master plan and flopped.

Daikatana was never promising.
"master plan"?
I don't think that it was a master plan at all.
The "master plan" was to make a game as equally good as what Diablo was.
They forgot they didn't have any money, yet they decided to make an MMO.
MMOs are the most expensive type of game to create, really risky ventures.
What I meant is that I don't think they thought it through that much, thus detracting from the "master plan" feel. Master plans are best saved for world domination and the like. When arguing and disagreeing in a heated manner, logic often drops dead like poop.
Their master plan was to be successful with their game, to try and overthrow the hack and slash and mmo kings. And you can see how well that turned out!

Ah, yeah, I would totally agree.
They forgot that you need to learn to crawl before you walk.
Is Warcraft seriously that lame?
Compared to Diablo and Starcraft? Yes.

I fail to see the similarities.

Daikatana = HG:L
No. HG:L was rushed to release due to a lack of funding.
Entirely different issue.

Same result, though.

No, the result was not the same.
Daikatana was a fully complete game that absolutely sucked.
HG:L wasn't even complete.

Yes it was. It was the whole reason to break up with Blizzard.

Sorry, but I can't show complete trust to a company that would make such poor design choices.
