I have been a big Diablo fan since i started back in 97. I was wondering if anyone knows whether there will be clans or guilds allowed in Diablo 3. I dont mean whether you can make characters and put the guild name, but an actual system like that of World of Warcraft or Guild Wars. I understand D3 stands out from these games as a hack and slasher, but guilds and clans often make a game better. What do you think?
I really hope not actually. I've always preferred being a loner in the Diablo games, just using other people as a tool when I needed them, and discarding them when I didn't.
Though, I could still just not join a guild if there is a guild system so it doesn't really hurt me.
But, it does kind of break the story to an extent. i mean, story is (assumed) in the other diablo games, a party of 3(in diablo) or a party of 5/7(diabloII/LoD) went through the game together and defeated the diablo. A group of companions from each of the classes availible. This was assumed to an extent whether you played like that or not. So, having guild filled with hundreds of 'champions' kind of shits on that story element of just the party of a handful.

Well, I don't think clans would have an impact on the game, it would have impact on battle.net. ie: private chatroom, rank system.
Either it will have an official way to bind guilds, ala WOW.
Or people will do it how they always did in Diablo, [insertguildtaghere]accountname
Guild will be in Diablo 3, whether people want them or not.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I think guilds will be made a part of the new battlenet system. Its a great way to meet new people, adds player interaction and as its already been said, people will make their own guilds either way.
Guilds, or clans (whichever you prefer to call them) promote social interaction and make playing the game with friends easier. Where was the downside again?
Oh yeah, and clan vs clan matches... ORGANIZED BY THE GAME! Yeah, that sounds good.

There are no cheap tactics, only good ones.
Don't be afraid to take a chance, your skill will help the dice roll in your favor.
Be polite. Be efficient. Have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
there will be a clan system in d3, they said so in an interview, but wont say anymore (those -_-s)
it will be a lobby tag rather than an ig tag is what it sounds like...
Thats a good thing. I didn't really like clans in d2 since your name got pretty much fokked up with the clan tags etc. Also whispering to a clan account was painful /w **-_[kk]_-**hellokitty
Also it would be nice if there was more strict naming policy.. no names with full capital letters.. no _ lines and such.
This is not an mmo, its Diablo. So definetely NO, let it be like DII
There will be these clans formed anyways. So why not give them some nice tools that help creating them and also keep the names of players cleaner and more realistic.
There could be for example a system that will automaticly create your clan a channel and you can choose to put autojoin on connect to there etc. Also there could be list on battle net of clans.. and clicking them could allow you to join their channel.
If theres gonna be a ladder you could sort it by clans.. what clan has highest average level or something.
With D2 style you wouldn't have anything like this..

Well, speaking in the official terms. The only types that I know that had clans were MMOs because they were multiplayer first.
Diablo has always been a single player first game.
Aww someone beat me to it...
/facepalm
It's because I don't have a social life.
