Well, I've decided to start a thread on this, looked through old posts an found nothing I could contribute to on this topic. Whether we like it or not, we all have something in common on these forums, and it has to deal with video games.
I was curious, sitting here, trying to figure out a way to bring folks together an chit chat about the games they like, why they like them, and what makes them so near an dear.
I'll start off with a small list of my favorite games or game series.-
Diablo1/2/LoD: I started playing these games back when I was twelve(18 now) They really got me hooked into the hack n' slash genre and it was probably the only game I played for a few years after that until World of Warcraft was released and I gave my account away to friends.
Super Mario Bro's.: Loved this game to death, it was one of the first games I had ever laid eyes on and I could just not put it down.
Zelda: Link to the past: Sitting along side mario bro's as one of the first games I really got into, zelda games to this day never dissapoint, I love them to death.
Galaga and Galactica: decided to slap these two together, they're a couple of my favorite arcade games I used to play em all the time.
Pacman: instant classic, enough said about that
World of Warcraft: One of the first mmo's I really got hooked into, I played it since it's release, Blizzards love for senior members in their community is next to none(literally ), it really started to get to me that all of their contests, all of their little things they'd set out to do were to please the masses, and not the little people who got their game to where it is today. And the fact that they overlooked so many things that could of made burning crusade such a better expansion. I'm currently putting that game on an indefinite hold until the next expansion is released.
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: One of the first spec ops games I played, The whole feel of being a stealthy assassin geared with the most high tech shit was bar to none in that game It was a truely genuine feel.
Half Life 1/2+episodes: This game is one of the greatest first person shooters of all time in my opinion, when half life:2 was released it was ages and ages past it's competition. It still has one of the best stories in any shooter to this day, I can play it 100x over and still never get bored.
Command and Conquer(the rts series as a whole): I think most of them were well placed together, it began to fall apart with cnc3: tiberium wars, things were soo unbalanced, scrin over powered everything, now the tables have turned an GDI reign supreme with this new expansion. I hope with RA3 they get things right, it should be a nice haul.
Halo Trilogy: Goin to add this to my list of favorites, I loved the story, read the books, and just think it's a great play even if it's sort of generic style, it's interesting to see things unfold.
Warcraft 3/tft: Loved this game as well, this is what got me into the warcraft lore, I picked up wc2 after this an saw how great things were. This was my basis for searching into more dwarven, elfish lore great RTS game as whole and the storyline sits on the top of one of the best ever established.
Starcraft: The name speaks for itself, being one of the most balanced rts games ever made, it is and will always reign supreme, if only I had RL friends that liked it, most of them are warcraft or cnc people.
Going to wrap this up so I don't keep dragging this on, I could go on and on and on, I'd really like to see what kind of games you guys are into, and your opinions on them. If this turns into a flame war I'm goin to get a moderator to close this. Be mature about it, show everyone some respect :).
In my opinion, the thing that makes any game great is when you lose yourself in it, in it's entirity, losing track of time an being so enveloped in the story and the fascinating action / fun the game has to offer. Is what makes any game top-notch.
I pretty much love all the games you posted, excluding two.
Pacman: Being born in '87, I was introduced to the NES era, which had better graphics, stories, game play, etc. I would assume that is the reason I have never been too fond of Pacman.
Halo: Generic FPS. 'Nuff said.
I also liked the Super Mario World series as well as all the Zelda games (As if you couldn't tell. ) Though If I had to pick my top 5, it would go Zelda, Starcraft/Warcraft series, Mario, Diablo series, and Killer Instinct Gold/Metroid series/Metroid Prime series/Donkey Kong Country. o.O (Sorry, guess that's more then five. Lol.)
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: Often heralded as the the greatest LOZ game of all time, many may not agree, but it's popularity and it's revolutionary effect on the gaming world cannot be denied.
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn/Throne of Bhaal: Disputably referred to as the greatest RPG of all time. It's replayability, intriguing story, low specs, and great characters keep fans returning time after time.
Age of Empires II: If you love a good Medieval RTS game, and don't mind learning a thing or two about/from history, this this is the game for you.
That's a bout all I can think of right now, that wasn't on your list.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I guess now that Diablo is off my top five list. I found a new game that I can play for hours without it getting boring. This is my list right now. 1) Titan Quest 2) WarcraftIII 3)CiviliaztionIII 4) Madden series 5)Every single mario game

Late nineties was a great era for games. CD-ROM was still blowing people's minds. I shall look the game up. Most of my favorite games are early CD-ROM releases. And many of them have such great story and characters that I never get sick of replaying them.
Max Payne series, HL series [initial and 2], Serious Sam series, Painkiller, Return to castle Wolfenstein, Medal of honor etc are the games i like the most.
And some games which i like on a lower scale are:
SIN, Kingpin, Bloodrayne etc etc.

''May the Gods give you the strength and power to bear the madness which flows through our minds.''
''Zubin, I've always imagined you as a crazy raver. The kinda guy that spends all night dancing to trance music while waving glow sticks and popping ecstasy.'' - Murderface
Anyone ever play cold zero? eh probably not. I'm not best with catagorizing games into their genres but its like a strategy 3rd person perspective shotting game for pc. It was pretty fun, hard though. The graphics werent great but I got into it.
Lol no matter how many times this thread gets made, I love it.
I found myself playing too much Emperor: Battle for Dune. With each progressing game I am more and more annoyed at Cobras. The fact that there is no strategy advice on this game at all doesn't help.
Just realized that D1, D2 and BG II are the only RPGs I've ever played in terms of medieval theme.

Worse is that i didn't even go halfway through BG II. o.O
Meh. I can't resist those delicious guns.

Hehe, good posts, yeah link I'm goin to agree halo was uber generic I don't play it online much but some of the pace in the actual singleplayer / coop was decent.
The call of duty series was superb, I own all of them, I sold my wii along with CoD3. After finding out infinity ward likes to screw with people an have another developer pick up it's odds an evens in their games it kind of bugged me. CoD4 has great fast paced online play, I believe it's the idealoligy of leveling, gaining upgrades, etc, etc. That keeps people hooked.
Forgot to add F-zero(SP) don't remember it was an old racing game for the nes that i played all the time.
Also BATTLETOADS for the gameboy, boy do I miss that title.
And well lets see here, I've always been a fan of most of the tom clancy games.
The Witcher- I bought this game a while ago, never really picked up in playing it, but over the past few days I installed it and the game has a really big oblivion feel. It has a different fighting system but it is a lot of fun. I'm really enjoying it.
Going to have to also say ehh, GTA, the epitome of sandbox, is one of my favorite game series. Ever since the gta for the ps1 I've liked it. I duno what's so fun maybe it's the idea of doin something so close to real but at the same time not doin it an and being able to be real strategic about certain things. Oh and jacking cars .. also fun. hehe..
I love the medal of honor games, those are up there with the call of duty titles. Lots of fun, very dramatic, over all great play.'
Fallout 1/2- I totally forgot about those games, I don't have them any more but aside from diablo; I really got into those, I'm really curious as to how fallout 3 is going to roll out being a FPS an all. Also really enjoyed Neverwinter Nights, and Baulders Gate they were great games.

The expansion was great too, the two best campaigns, imo, were the Native American campaign and the Joan of Arc camapaign.
