eh sometimes on nice clear nights... since i live in the middle of nowehre... i like to just go outside and look up... imagine... dream... i cant w8 till something contacts us... if ever... way longer odds than needle in a haystack... odds are closer to find a specific needle on earth...
There's no concrete evidence for or against it, so, in my book, I see no reason to not believe or believe it until I see one.
i have never seen New York either, so unless i see it with my own eyes i dont need to believe that city exists.
kinda silly thing to say i know, but you get my point.
theres reason enough to make us believe of the "aliens" existance. Dont immediately think of little green men that travel through space and abduct us just to perform tests on us. Think of life in another planet, just like there is on our planet. Are there evidence for anyone to believe there's life on Earth? Not really, unless you live here
But..its really a dumb point....Different circumstances, geographic locations have a bit more legitimacy than flying objects that ignore laws of gravity that we know of.
I dont blame anyone for leaving open the possibility of them existing or not existing, although i do believe, but to some people who have never seen one feel that the evidence is just poor. And also...we have DECENT evidence i would say that New York exists...or Ireland...or Mars even, but it seems all footage of ufo's is horrible or photoshoped. But i saw one so im straight lol, oh and the nasa footage is unbelievable. We are certainly not alone lol.

as in an alien lifeform, sure, the universe is too big for us to be the only ones. Helll, theres even water in Mars which is reason enough to believe that at least some kind of life form existed (or will exist) there. And thats just what we know inside our solar system. Imagine what could be happening lightyears away. There might be even alien civilizations in existance. I cant prove it but i do believe it.
I believe that the rocky planets take turns in holding life. I think Venus did before it boiled up and I believe that Earth was once a Mars planet later to become the present-day Earth. I think once Earth boils up then Mars will hold life...

we would have found evidence of civilization or at least remnants of organisms or 'life sustaining' organic compounds floating around. but i see what your saying and maybe not our solar systems planets, but maybe another systems planet, and theyve moved out to earth and thats why sometimes we see aliens, theyre checking up on us
i dont believe what i just said, but it makes more sense than your idea

i have never seen New York either, so unless i see it with my own eyes i dont need to believe that city exists.

Doesn't apply. I've made this same argument in the does-god-exist threads but no one listens to it, so I am refusing your argument.
Also, I never said that they didn't exist. I also never said they did. So I'm assuming you meant to quote someone else?
theres reason enough to make us believe of the "aliens" existance. Dont immediately think of little green men that travel through space and abduct us just to perform tests on us. Think of life in another planet, just like there is on our planet. Are there evidence for anyone to believe there's life on Earth? Not really, unless you live here
Yes, that was the whole point of my quote, which you proved in your own. Your argument is "just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist". That's basically what I said. I said there isn't ample evidence to support or deny the existence of extraterrestrial life with absolute certainty. Unless it's something I'm willing to bet my life on, I'm not going to believe it with absolute certainty- therefore, I don't not believe or believe in the existence of alien life.
well, my quote kinda strengthened the theory that we may know little but its relatively safe to assume that within the infinity of the galaxy we cant be the only ones. There are quite a few things to hint otherwise. I did intend to quote you because although i agree with you as in "we'll most likely never going to know for sure" but i think we can be more certain than that.
many things were considered impossible until we discovered them. Think of Democretus (is it how its written in english? i kinda know him in greek only). He was talking about things that were officially proved about 2000 years after his death (if not more). Just because we lack the technology or intelligence to prove something right now it doesnt mean they dont exist.
to get back on the silly example i had (or to try to support it even), i could say that for someone that hasnt seen footage or knows people that lived there some places dont exist. They have no information, nothing to think about when they listen to that. Thats what it is with us and life in other planets.
Whats needed for life to start is the right environment. Mostly water. If we managed to find water on the very first planet we managed to set foot on (or to send something that could analyze the environment to be more precise), what does it tell you about different solar systems. There could be anything from simple organisms to very complex.
And thats completely different than talking about god. Talking about life in different planets can be proved by science (same way they figured some things existed - and then discovered them). God is far from being found because even if he exists we either find him after our death, or never because he never interferes with out lives.
I'm a mysticist and like to belive about stuff that is not explained as a possibility of something more than just our regular earth.
And to end my comment i wan't Y'all to think about this.
Search for "Drakes Equation" on Wiki for the "recipe" to know how many inteligent civilizations there is.
In our galaxy (milky way) there is 10+(68 zero) stars, each one with their unique planet system. The possibility for live on other planets depends on hundreds of reasons, here's some:
The star(s) intensity, the distance, the birthyear of the planet/sun, the size, the material of the planet and so on ( the list can get extremly long).
And not to mension other dimensions (a possibility), way of seeing things ( what if all the dark materia 73% of the universe is invisible civilisations)...... This list can also be made long
thats all far too theoretical and a thread necro.....

If we take as a fact that there's no life in our own solar system, the closest star, apart form the Sun, is Alpha Centaurs, which is approximately 4,36 light-years away from us... that's a hell lot of distance.
That being said, if some intelligent being form there develops a vehicle that can travel at 1/20 the speed of light (15000 kilometers per SECOND... that's a hell lot of speed), that can resist the immense inertia from accelerating to that speed, that can carry a living form inside it, it would still take the vehicle 100 years to get to earth. So, unless the have already launched it, we'd all be dead by the times it arrives.
And that is the CLOSEST star to the sun.
But, answering the question, I do think there are tons of different life forms outside there, in tons of different planets... only we will never know about them, and they will never know about us. (Unless someone creates a way to teleport, or to travel at the speed of light, therefore stopping time, while keeping mass at mass, without turning in into energy... don't worry, I'm working on it)
EDIT: If you didn't understand what I said in the paragraph above, you should read something about Einstein's relativity theory... it's rather interesting and it isn't as complicated as it sounds... I'm 15 and I understand it (I think).
It talks about space-time continuity, among other things, so if you're planning on playing with the Wizard you should read about it xD.
PS: Please correct me if I stated or calculated something wrong... and if you could correct my grammar and syntax mistakes, I would be really pleased
You have a point there but it all works fine until Einstein is proven wrong and/or until we use that space rift travel theory (the one where you take a piece of paper, fold it, and put a pencil through).

Yeah, actually, there's another theory that explains how space-time continuity is being broken all the time in little (by little I mean something smaller than a quark) imperfections on the universe called "wormholes". If we could use those imperfections to our advantage, we should be able to travel through space and time easily. It's a bit far-fetched but some say it's possible
I don't know about that "space rift travel theory", could you explain it to me?
Event Horizon. But it's a pretty stable theory, it wasn't invented by the movie or anything, but it kinda goes against regular physics, along with Lobachevsky geometry and other such things.

So what? who cares if it goes against regular physics? A lot of things are unable to coexist but still science excepts them as fact. Take quantum physics and Einstein's theory of relativity, the most infamous example of them all. Apart they work perfectly, but together you can seem to get the universe working. Somewhere there are holes in all these theories but they could still be correct. So that theory is certainly possible even though it goes against what we know as conventional physics.
