I would not want a robot, where we could not age together.
Ah. So, assuming you fell in love with the robot instead, it could work out?
Of course, the aging issue is a proble, but I suppose you could "downgrade" her every few years. Either that, or she could be non-metal based, much like a biological being.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I don't think sex robots would be all that bad, considering.
Obviously there would be people into it. Those who want intimacy without commitment or emotional attachments, or even couples who want to try something new (threesome, anyone?)
Machines like this could also help partially cut down on the number of STDs. You've got the money for a prostitute? Go find a sexbot instead, and you won't have to worry about getting tested afterward.
As it is right now, there are already machines made for sex (they're...interesting, lol), and this is just taking it a step further. Of course, like you guys are talking about, emotional attachment may be an issue, but there have been stranger things, eh?
If I met the robot first, I would not know if it was a robot or not.
I would probably dump it if I figured it was a robot.
And why would you do that? If you did start to love the robot, there would be nothing different about it just because you figured it out. it would still be made out of the same material, think in the same way, and act in teh same way.
Although I guess it's practically the same as finding out your husband/wife is a former murderer. That doesn't change the persons personality, but it does make you uncomfortable. I can agree with that.
But, there's an important difference. A murderer is something you become, and something you have chosen (in one way or another). It affects that persons mind and their way of thinking.
However, being a robot has no changing aspect on your intelligence. That's how you were made, it's been the basis for your forming.

What about you?
Ah, what about me? Well, I can't say I'll live to see the day I meet a robot that perfectly mimics a human, at least I don't think I will. But I do think that if I did, I wouldn't have a problem with it.
Keep in mind though, that I'm talking of a high-level of emulation here. In order for a robot to pass as a human, we need far better technological solution than we do today. But in the end, we will see no difference between humans and robots.

I would dump the robot, because I really would prefer a human over a mechanical device.
See, that requires there to be some difference between a human and a robot, otherwise you cannot prefer one of the other. Now you've already said it's not impossible for you to fall in love with a robot, so what makes a human better?

You might be able to live to it, if they discovered it in about 25 years.

A human is better because they are just different. A robot would like the same things that you do, but if you marryied someone that did not like all the things you did then it would be an interesting marriabe.:D

Ah. True that. But, if your assumption is to be correct, it would have to be programmed like a regular program you use on your computer.
That however, will not suffice in order to make a computer human. Unless we stuff a lot of processing power into it and develop huge programs that no lone man can ever make himself (and not all scientists in the world combined either).
No, the most efffective way to do is, if it is to me mass-produced, would be to give it an artificial intelligence capable of learning on its own. That way, you are not in control of what it knows, but it will be subject to the same surrounding circumstances any human being is. Thus it would evolve as a person does.
What then would be the difference between a human and a robot wife?

What if the scientists programmed it to like whatever the human liked. They would watch what you would like to do and everything, and then it would program it into there files.

The problem is that you underestimate the amount of knowledge a human being possesses.
We are no way near close creating a computer that knows the amount a human being does and be able to use it. If we were to program a computer like this and make it unchangeable, the scientists would have to make everything manually, like they do today. That is such a monumental task that it simply cannot be done effectively. We're talking about years and years of just inserting data into one robot.
A learning mechanism is the way to go, and is what will happen. A computer capable of learning on it's own needs only the basics insertet, while the rest is acquired along the way. The obvious drawback of course is that you cannot really tailor the robots behavoiur. But neither can you perfectly tailor a human beings behaviour.

Just keep in mind, if its capable of re-writing its own files it would be able to re-write the file telling it to keep the three laws of robotics. Which means it could theoretically kill.
Which means it would have to have "instincts" which are the three laws that are unchangable. Because if it can change files just like that, that leads us to movies such as iRobot. And do we really want to put Will Smith through all that again?

That is an interesting problem isn't it? It would mean it would work exacly like a human, for any human can aslo theoretically kill.

Well, in iRobot, the robots were slaves. And I do not think we will have robots as slaves once AI-researchers are able to reach this level of sophistication in their designs.
